There's nothing quite as comforting in the summer as Bengali special tok dal or aam dal! Every Bengali household has a different & a unique way of preparing this dish & this is my version of this recipe! Lemme know aapke ghar yeh Tok Dal kaise banta hai? Would love to know 😋

@YourfoodLab Chef, Paanch phoron is not commonly used. Also, No Radhuni is used; its mainly for recipes like Shukto... Also, in bong household we don't use Rai but the big black mustard seeds... 😃
This is such a summer staple...even when eaten hot it calms the body from heat. This with some bori and aloo bhaja is such a soul food. 😍 Thank You Chef Sanjyot for bringing this recipe to the larger Indian audience. Hope Y'all enjoy it ! 😇

You have overdone the tadka....just mustard seeds and dry chilli is enough. And Bengali tok dal should be equally sweet and sour....needed to add more sugar.

Fantastic. I'm amazed to see how perfectly you've understand the humble simple tok er dal. May be the only perfect Bengali recipe from someone who's not from Bengal. Nowadays even Bengalis post weird Bengali recipe videos. Salute to you.

Your pronunciation is apt, chef!!!! In my home, my maa uses mustard seeds as tadka (phoron) as the masoor daal is cooked with raw mango, also she adds little sugar to adjust the taste... otherwise she uses panch phoron... Your detailed recipes helped us a lot .. I made gulab jamun which turned out as perfect as sweet shop's.. Love from Kolkata Chef! ❤
Chef there's one more very delicious Bengali recipe of masoor dal Called moosoor dal makha(kind of bharta )it's very simple, you just boil the dal and reduce it to a dry form, now add chopped onions, green chili and mustard oil, salt mix well (moth lijiye) divide into portions and serve in a shape of a ball ,that's it serve it with plain rice. This is can be a staple round the year 😊.
Dhekne me bahot hi lazeez lag raha hai🤤.Waise bhi Aam ka season chal raha hai.Sardi aur bukhar se meri zuban bhi kadvi ho gai hai🤢...me ye recipe jaldi hi try karoongi.
This is such a big summer staple here in Bangladesh. Thanks for cooking it in authentic Bengali 🇧🇩 way. Over there in West Bengal they add way too much sugar in the daal eww
I always appreciate your recipes. Learnt many dishes from your video. Your pronunciation of paanchforon or toker dal is perfect. We add one spoon of sugar to this tasty and healthy dish to balance the sour taste of raw mango. In stead of masur dal, mung or mator dal can be used also.
It's the best dish for summer. Have it with your regular curries and sabzi .We don't tadka our dal like Punjabi or North Indian way , we boile it don't throw the water then make the tadka in a kadhai put oil then put 'Panch fodan' mix of five seeds with tej pata and dried red chili and raw mango, cook it for few minutes then put the dal into the kadhai then cook it there for few minutes.
Even the pronunciation is so perfect, & that last scene when you're having the tok daal just like the pure Bengalis.... OMG I'm so impressed ☺️...thanks for representing our West Bengal recipe❤
We traditionally use Masoor daal, or Matar daal/ Peas daal (mostly by widows who couldn't consume Masoor considered as non-veg). For tempering we add dried red chilli, black mustard seeds and maybe a pinch of nigel seeds or kaalo jeere- obviously in mustard oil. That's so light, refreshing and cooling/ soothing.
In Andhra we have a similar dish called Maavidikaya(mango) Pappu(dal). The difference being the dal is usually moong or toor dal and not masoor. And some homes add garlic and green chillies to dish. Lovely recipe as usual, chef
Tadka is perfect, you have used paanch phoron, that is best flavour that can be given to the dal. I put sugar or gur to balance the khattapan, make it a sweety soury concoction,,,,being a Bengali, love more mishti tok ❤❤ But just loved your recipe and pronunciations❤❤❤#chefsanjyotkeer @chefsanjyotkeer
