Depending on the story/legend, the Kraken is sometimes described as a giant octopus instead of a squid, so keeping the Kraken name would still make sense
Ironically not, as the first description of the Kraken was an giant octopus, despite possibly originating from sightings of giant squids. So Kraken works either way!
Having a little shockwave when you superjump to someone as a kraken could be fun, like a mini superjump-splashdown. Makes up even more for lack of invincibility and adds even more versatility.
I literally had that exact thought! I always loved the superjump splashdown... it adds so much more depth to the special and gives extra incentive to teamwork.
What if they did like the challenges from Splatoon 1 amiibos where you can transform into an inkling during the kraken special, and the main weapon is bugged during that period
As a player that never got to experience Splatoon 1, I would love for them to add Kraken to Splatoon 3. Reworking it could make it work just fine in the game. If not, then at least add them into private battles for players to get to play with those specials. EDIT: THEY ARR BRINGING BACK KRAKEN!
The main reason I miss Kraken is because it is the most hyper aggressive special in series history. The mobility and armor it gave you free you to do frankly needlessly aggressive solo pushes and that's something that hasn't really be replicated. Most aggressive specials in 3 require some distance to be useful, and while Zipcaster is another special focused around mobility the recall mechanic makes it's use case far different. Kraken not only would provide another mobility special that is functionally distinct from Zip, but it would also be a great aggressive special for flanking that isn't a passive benefit like bubble, a design space suprisingly empty compared to how many midline aggressive specials there are
This would be GREAT! Genuinely, i'd be incredibly happy if they did this. Goated idea from ProChara right here, also, as an aggro player that loves the range blaster, i REALLY want a more aggressive kit!
Here's a new Kraken ability idea: Using Zr at any point will cause the Kraken to dive down and basically become a Maw from Salmon Run for a few seconds. It can only do this once because after leaping out of the ink, the player will revert back to normal, canceling the special.
I've honestly, never thought kraken was distinct enough from ultra stamp or reefslider, but you've convinced me. Seems like it could be a pretty cool special if handled right.
I think this is one of the best design idea for the game. Bringing back the iconic Kraken with those changes would be not only so cool but would also fit on the 5 weapons kit mentionned. I would love to see that happen one day.
I always thought Zipcaster was Kraken's spiritual successor, being a transformation special that directly enhances the inkling or octoling instead of giving them a special (get it) weapon. I get it's not a gameplay successor but like, it felt thematically close enough to make that comparison
True, they both enhance the user's mobility in different ways, and allow for unique aggressive plays. Imagine if Zipcaster was in Splatoon 1 and had invincibility, it would be crazy.
Ok, this is the one special they should add back. Also, i think they could add ink armor back but only add it onto reef slider after it explodes, and it should only apply to that user. That way I think reef slider could be useful.
I love this idea for a reworked Kraken (kinda similar to my own personal idea) and would love to see it return. Kraken is still the coolest concept for a Special imo, as it takes an urban legend surrounding the main species of Splatoon, and allows you to transfirm into said legend. Being able to see a new Kraken design for Inklings and Octolings would also be a dream-come-true. Hopefully if they do add new Subs and Specials, they wont add them super late into the update cycle, like with Splatoon 2.
They should just hire this man to make updates to splatoon 3. He makes sense with the changes given to the krakon and i would love to be able to play this special.
I'm not going to say if Kraken should come back, but I'll say that I think the devs made Kraken return in spirit with the Squid Roll. It's a defensive toll (which Kraken is invincible, so there's a link), and when Kraken jumps, it twirls, like the Rolls.
Haven’t seen the video yet, but a while ago I had the idea for a Kraken rework with a small bit of HP (with startup lag ofc) that one-shots, but can only splat one person - after it gets the kill the special ends in a small Baller-like explosion with endlag at the end. It obviously wouldn’t work in Splatoon 3, since it’s basically just a better Reefslider, but I think it would be fun to see.
The 96 would be the weapon that gets the most out of the new special since the weapon and the special both want Intensify Action If it did happen, 96 would be meta once more!
I saw the name of the video and immediately thought "YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! WOOOOHOOOO!!! MY OLD FAVORITE SPECIAL IS BACK!!!
one of my favorite things from the first game was the amiibo. It’s was a simple change letting you use kraken on single player stages but it was so much fun
Ultra Stamp is essentially balanced Kraken in essence. It has a one shot up close, but less easy to pull-off, similar but slower speed in rush mode, similar duration, and an added throw option with the hammer, probably there to offset the inability to directly climb up walls in squid form like Kraken could. Stamp also has "invincibility" in the sense of invulnerability from the front when swinging down with the hammer, while where's vulnerability from the sides, the back, and the front when the Stamp is up between swings and when not swinging, which is the middle-ground of Kraken's sheer invincibility and actual balance of itself, but in a new form factor, ala Ultra Stamp. I don't really see how Nintendo could revitalize Kraken in a unique way from what it once was in its very reminiscent traits reflected with Ultra Stamp, as well as similar aspects with other specials such as Crab Tank and Reef Slider that all co-exist within the same game I may add. Stamp is a spiritual successor in all Kraken's aspects, albeit a much weaker one, but that's intentional. With the concept I've seen from some people of enlarging your squid form and giving you additional HP, (perhaps even with SR's "Maws" mechanic of going underneath with a circular radius for a one shot) that's Crab Tank, but with added firing options and slower mobility instead of Kraken's melee contact and movement.. I find it neat how Nintendo had taken characteristics from all of the specials and morphed them into new ones. Many specials have basically embodied Kraken over time, and Ultra Stamp is the closest one to one iteration to itself, but others have also taken Kraken's characteristics and built off of it in their own right. So really, Kraken is almost a one to one balanced recreation in Stamp, but also a mix of many other specials comprised from itself. It's not necessarily one direct special anymore. If anything, if there were to be a new "Kraken" special again in Splatoon, it would almost have to be the complete opposite of its own form, given that essentially everything has already been taken from its original model, and distributed across other specials. A small-fry type mini mushroom special, slightly less health (75 HP) and slightly reduced paint output given the smaller form factor, (-2.5-3%) but faster strafe speed, (+5-10%) harder to hit, and hard to see visibility both on the stage and on the map in the map's squid icon and their paint trails. Is sort've a blend between a camo esq. "invisibility" type special, and a reverse Kraken shrink form factor risk/reward flank special. As for making a larger squid esq. special again, I'd personally rather just buff Ultra Stamp, which would not only make it a much better special in comparison to the others in this game, but doing something like giving it +5% rush mode speed increase will make it virtually Kraken's speed from Splatoon 1, which would further equate Stamp to its original counterpart, making the separation between the two even less distinct, apart from the invincibility and wall climbing Kraken can do in squid form. Basically, you're giving everyone what they want in essence with a Stamp buff, while also making it better suited in the game and not bottom tier.
I'm interested to see how Special Power Up would work with this version of Kraken, as there would be so many ways to buff it. More hp, more swim speed, more special duration, more Intensify Action stacks, just to name a few.
Honestly I would say that ultra stamp is very similar to Kraken so I see why both aren’t in Splatoon 3 since it’s close range, fast and has a one hit kill with semi invulnerability but still it was cool being able to climb up walls with Kraken
One thing that really bothers me when talking about kraken returning is the fact that playable octolings now exist. The squid kraken feels powerful because you feels like you ram the enemy with your sharp head, and octolings would feel kinda weird considering their head is round.
When people hacked to play as enemy octolings, they actually found that they have their own unique kraken form Unfortunately, it seems unfinished as the only change from the inkling form was the curling of their outer tentacles
5:57 This aged beautifully because they're adding a new .96 Gal Deco weapon with Splash Wall and the Kraken Royale (as it's now called) LOL The only other weapon that has it so far is the returning Krak-On Splat Roller too
Fun idea to bring Kraken back, but I'm curious how kraken would work in Clam Blitz. 1: Would you be able to pick up clams as the Kraken, or would you be unable to collect any of them (dropping the football on activation). 2: If you can carry the football as a Kraken, you wouldn't be able to throw it until the special ends. But you can throw it once the special ends, even if it's your last act. Such as dropping a bomb when the Kraken wears off, but before the player is punished. 2.1: Reefslider allows you to carry the football, but you loose it after the explosion. You have to pick up the football again to throw it, making it difficult to bum-rush the goal by yourself. 2.2: Ultrastamp lets you carry and keep the football, while letting you deactivate the special anytime (with the throw). But the Ultrastamp's defense is position based, not HP, making it risky to go into enemy territory. 2.3: Assuming the Kraken can carry the football, the Kraken would be able to make solo pushes, and almost guarantee a score. 3: The best defense against a Kraken rush would be the powerful weapons that could knock it back, a pre-charged Hydra which can shatter its HP, or another Kraken. BONUS 1: Kraken on Kraken. The Kraken does 160 base damage. At 500 HP that's 4 hits (640 damage) to kill another Kraken, or 3 hits (480 damage) if a teammate contributes at all. 2: Special Power Up: would probably increase duration (on an already long special at 7 seconds), or increase health (which everyone would run).
He did...? He said it during the big swig section. He said it would be a cool way to reference the original krak on kit, but on a weapon that could utilize it better lol
How tf is big swig better at aggressive play than regular roller. Its literally a support. And yes kraken can protect the user from flankers or whatever but even then, something like big bubbler is still better.

Depending on the story/legend, the Kraken is sometimes described as a giant octopus instead of a squid, so keeping the Kraken name would still make sense
@@eldritchaugur7839 real shit, thanks for the correction (though ngl I do kinda like leviathan better)
