As a referee you know you're screwed when the arguments start before the game even starts. Doesn't matter how good the officials are, this game was going to hell.

@@michaelfalkner1186 Unless there were insufficient players to begin the game, there isn't a reason under the laws for a referee to not start a match. No league (in several countries at both amateur and semi-professional levels) I've ever worked for has had a procedure for not starting a game. A referee who abandoned a match based on "I have a bad feeling about this..." would indeed have a very short officiating career.
@@jamesmeacham1305 Unless he felt the match was going to be so violent. I've actually been in park leagues in various sports where it is made clear that certain conduct is expected before you can begin the match.
If he had enough of a feeling, there should've been a procedure to notify either the head of the league or the grounds of trouble and get advice as to whether to proceed with the match.
Black teams goalkeeper is the only one who can't be ashamed of himself. Barely made a mistake, crazy saves, didn't get involved in drama, and tried to control his team.... This was pitiful from both teams and the ref.
Man of the match. Some serious saves. Some of the tackling was "red" to say the least. Black team played the better football and still lost.

Ironic to blame a referee for “losing control” when it is the players that had no control of themselves. If the referee had actually called these penalties to the extent said in the Laws of the Game, it would have been a 7 v 7 field. These are grown men not willing to play by the Laws, and the referee is doing his best to govern the untrainable and unknowledgeable. 30 screaming voices demanding cards and calls that lose their goddam minds when they get cards and calls. Ridiculous display of poor sportsmanship.

Yeah this happens you you don't make calls and don't set the right tone as a ref. players take it into their own hands and start trying to get even, and see what they can get away with. It just snowballs from there, the ref was absolutely terrible, from missing calls, to not giving out obvious yellow or red cards. Ref lost control of the game, players are to blame as well but when you don't control a game, this is what happens in a competition. I was a ref and a played for many years.
Andrew Smith you’re wrong. The safety of the players is the referee’s responsibility. Call the game off or issue warnings and cards to punish. Referee is the issue.

Add a ref who doesn't give cards on obvious faults and you soon get a game, that not only goes out of hand but also usually leads to injuries. As a referee myself, I thought the ref was doing a decent job up until the off the ball incident. He needed to be more assertive and the players needed to show some more class.
He had to be more assertive from the get go so the babies didnt spit their dummies constantly .

I played in a league like this! It was absolutely madness!! Broken noses, torn ACLs, Refs getting punched. All for a Sunday league! This reminds me of those days.

Yes because the referee did not see it and presumably no linesman informed him. You can not rule on what is not seen. Having said that There was a lot of gamesmanship in that game and as someone has already said thevreferee could have done himself a favour by laughing with the players at the innocuous examples of this and telling them to cut it out
My experience as a referee was, as someone has already said, make comments to players that will help to get them on your side. As someone has already said these older guys either get frustrated because they can not do what they used to do while others have never really made it and so play the game to see what they can get away with and to convince themselves that they are winners.

The league should review Video of these types of games to see the disgraceful conduct and actions of some of these players and ban them, this has no place in futbol
Sebastian Perez yeah, I run the UA-cam channel and film the matches for my local football team and the league review the videos here. I occasionally have to edit out fans swearing at or shouting at the ref as a precaution just in case we get into trouble with the league if they believe that it is coming from the bench or coaching team. I wonder if that’s just here in England or whether it happens in other places as well

Football need to adopt some rugby rules: 1. Only Captains can talk to the Referee 2. Touch the Referee, suspension and fine for that player. 3 Verbal abuse of the Referee automatic card for the player 4. Pitch Invaders, banned from game for period. The player conduct in this match was inexcusable and brings the game in to disrepute. Canadian football Association should punish these guys.

The ref isnt guilt free in this game. He did make some crucial mistakes in his cards. Should have handed out more yellows earlier. So players would have been cautioned. His positioning was good. And the bad stuff was behind his back. So he cant take the blame on that. But just saying the ref is fault free, no he isnt.

He actually did it to himself. By the time he finally pulled a card out in the 2nd half I would've had 4, maybe 5 names in my book. He never really took control of the match. If he was working in the league I was a part of for 25 years he'd be up for remedial training in game management.

Referee here. That look to me like straight red for "Serious Foul Play." Goes way late for the foot stomp and then wild kick to the shins of opponent. Ball is long gone. I think this referee maybe did not play the game at high enough level to realize when fouls are intentional.

I loved reffing. This is just a really bad ref. Lost control of the game almost immediately when he didn't caution dangerous tackles. Set the tone for both teams and it showed.
as a person who grew up with hockey culture, 8 yr old boy hockey players literally show more toughness and resilience then these two teams.

@@WrinklyTraveller I'd say about 50% of the referees that I've seen (refereeing adults at a very low level because that's where I've played and refereed) are considerably worse than this. The referee was not good but he had two teams that were being recorded and were still amongst the worst I have seen. The terrible challenges were bad but the cynical stuff off the ball or when the ball wasn't in play was awful. I assume he was expected to be a bit better than the level of referees I'm used to because this can't be the lowest level game and he wasn't up to it. Almost everyone commentating wouldn't be close to being up to it either.
