A brilliant feat of engineering. Such a shame the S-coupe was discontinued. These cars are so good that it even makes sense buying a well maintained, low-mileage used one than a brand new other model at the same price point. Great review by the way, your positive energy is uplifting!
They should’ve just updated its look and made it a maybach trim exclusively but maybe that wouldn’t have worked out because if I’m not wrong one of the cars in the mythos series is a maybach sedan or 2 door convertible and maybe having two sedan convertibles and having them be under the name maybach partially wouldn’t have been a good idea
Fabulous video Merka...AND...you're covering one of my favourite cars of all time. All the way from Canada's Capital, thanks for great show. You are an original and it's always a learning experience and a lot of fun.
I love the part at the end of the video during the bloopers because it shows how the seatbelt tightens up when the car auto brakes for the blow up doll.
There’s really not much to say about a car that cost over a💲quarter of a million dollars, and then within about ten years depreciate to less than half of its asking price. That’s the reason why it’s always best to by a Mercedes Benz used instead of brand new, unless you have the kind of expendable cash the original moron has.
Maintenance cost gonna suck, that’s ultimately the break point. It’s like the Aston martins, you can pick one up for $40k and spend $20k per year on maintenance
I drove the previous generation CL55 AMG coupe. It has such a solid feel to it. It doesn't feel sporty at all, but feels very competent. I would buy me one of these, but unfortunately my boss won't get me a $1 million dollar a year raise because he is a cheapskate...
It is a beautiful car! Never understood why the interior never really wowed me so much though… I’ve been lucky enough to have the opportunity to drive multiple S coupe’s including the S63 and while the car is absolutely beautiful, at MSRP I just can’t see this competing with something like an Aston Martin or a Bentley. It just doesn’t feel so special to me anyways… It’s a shame because they’re brilliant cars… Obviously a used one is a great buy but when bought new I never could understand why someone who can afford a car this expensive wouldn’t rather stretch the budget just a little bit and get a Continental GT - the new one in particular is in a completely different ball game.
I know the Bentley & Rolls hold their value much longer after you've bought them but quite honestly I'd buy the S63 AMG Coupe over the Conti GT/Wraith. It's such a sweet spot of the lot.
Luxury tax is the biggest joke if it doesn't scale based on income all it does is screw the people that can barely afford these but love cars... And those that buy boats for their crew of servants could care less at the pocket change. Sad.

Serious question and not being a prick, but why/how would carbon ceramics destroy the wheels? Too much stopping power for the wheels and may cause deflection? Love to hear your thoughts!
@@QuirkCM just my assumption. The higher stopping speed and power, the brake dust that does get on the wheel would likely be “baked” on the wheel if the wheels reach a certain temp.I could be very wrong but I’ve always read that you should leave CF brakes for the track.
@@reggier2343 yes they are too grabby but considering the weight of the car and how some drive carbon ceramics are worth it as they certainly last longer and handling high breaking speed without brake fade
Over a quarter of a million that’s ridiculous! When you can pickup one that’s 10 to 15 years older with still under a hundred thousand miles on it for far less than what you would pay for a newer one. In Which I still think the older models look better to me anyway compared to the newer ones with their oversized brand logo on the front of them. Hell, I’ve even seen some on Traders Post for a little over $30,000, but then again like I said depending on the year you’re looking at. But Unfortunately, no matter which model you’re looking at Mercedes has a bad reputation of depreciation that perceive its notorious and prestigious brand name, and that’s why it would be extremely ludicrous to go out and buy a new one knowing that within a few years one can be had for less than half the price you paid for a new one, because Mercedes don’t change their style all that much, if not ever.
@@iijaydakingll6232 , apparently you most not be familiar with the Auto Traders Post website to make that kind of numb head assumption, because there are plenty of S65’s in or around the $25 to $55 thousand dollar price range, far less than if was to buy it new, (and all decked out as you called it), up for sale, depending on which year range model you’re looking at. I personally like the 2007 to 2012 S65 model because of its more distinctive than the newer model style machismo. You’re talking like you have something so notoriously exotic and overly achievable for the average earner to obtain, but you don’t. The Mercedes Benz, no matter which model you’re looking for or talking about, (including the S65), because of its depreciation factor will never allow it to fall into the dream car realm! A brand new S65 bought after 10 years can be bought for nearly less than half the price. Now if you were talking about a Lamborghini or a Ferrari than you would be correct about telling somebody to keep dreaming about a certain car, but not a Mercedes, not unless you were talking about an SL S65 AMG Black Series, but then that would be including yourself to keep dreaming!
well, if you are rich and you want to buy the new Mercedes class S coupe, choose the paint, the finishes, the rims and the color of the leather in the cabin, you will spend this sum without even asking yourself any questions ! and you will change it in 3 years, whatever the financial loss due to depreciation! it's the law of the market and it will make luxury used cars for the less rich!...
This makes the new Mercedes trim and packaging look ridiculous. This is back when Mercedes actually felt luxurious - and not focused on useless tech, mmi, and a ridiculous abundance of plastics. There's actually a considerable amount of leather in here, which is what you must expect. Shame the brand has lost it's touch. Too many young consumers who only want Apple Car Play as an experience.
