why are PARA, ACE, or PPV not listed here btw, you can't just hierarchically compare these when they serve different purposes.

Im not sure several these are really comparable systems. Some are more methods of task management and not whole systems.

No mention of Zettelkasten? It’s sort of apples to oranges, but at the same time, it’s the only system built for people who lean into their ADHD as opposed to trying to stamp it down in systems. Also great for more research oriented knowledge workers as opposed to task list knowledge workers

I might do an advanced one soon!

@@toolfinderhq fair enough! Zettelkasten is also one of those interesting ones where there’s a spectrum to it. On one end you have the pen and notecards version and on the other you have the implicit Zettelkasten of writing deeply linked notes in a roam outline, where it’s almost baked into the product.

What about motion AI? That’s a really popular one now.

Aha. Motion AI is an app, not a system.

1:10 GTD should be higher as it tracks an idea from concept to end product, with regular review baked in. The others don't cover the entire process and systems such as pomodoro fit inside the GTD framework.. As far as too rigid? The goal of these productivity systems is to apply mental discipline, clean up messy thought processes, tame your creativity so that you have a handle on it and direct it to things that actually matter. In a nutshell, train your 'mental body' like you do at a gym'. I.e. Work to the design of the human mind, not use your mind 'any old way'. When you choose a productivity system and adapt it so that it 'agrees with' your lazy or confused thought processes, then you have a problem. It's the other way around. Discipline and tame the creative mind so next time you enter productivity mode, you're sharp. As far as GTD being outdated in 10 years? The basic functions ( and pitfalls ) of the human mind never change. 'Modernism' and the idea the basic get outdated is one such pitfall. Thinking that 'creativity' is letting your creative thought processes run wild, at any time, is another. Tame that horse. The perception of intensity of GTD may point ot lazy thought processes that need tightening up, not an error with the system itself.

I see your point. However, I personally have tried this system twice and found it difficult to implement. Perhaps it is the discipline portion you speak of is what's difficult for me to follow. Perhaps I'm seeking something less exhausting on the brain....hmmm. Just thinking out loud.

I completely agree with this. Pomodoro, 80/20, Eat the Frog are all *activities* or *concepts* or *techniques* that one can use within an actual productivity system, imho. Yes, it takes a bit to learn the GTD system, because it's new, and new is uncomfortable and hard, and we don't like doing "hard" things these days. And it feels "rigid", but as mentioned above, it works just as well today - with all our apps and such - as it did when David Allen created it. And it's just as easy to use with physical papers and notes and writing implements (maybe easier sometimes!) as it is with apps across devices. So I believe that, as a true *system* for productivity, it has and will stand the test of time.
Learning it (GTD) pays off. I learned it years ago, and even though I don't follow 100% of it each and every day, I do have a trusted system (which I am constantly perfecting) into which I put most everything, I do have regular review times and planning times, and it is now almost second nature to me. It wasn't at first! Don't let some ephemeral idea of "hard" stop you from learning some great, solid principles for dealing with everything that comes at us each day in a way that gives you peace. :)
Do I have to put any effort into learning the others at the top of this list? No. Because they are activities/concepts not systems. :) Not knocking them, they are all GREAT helps to get stuff done, for sure! But not a "system", really. I do think the others things mentioned in this list are actual "systems", more or less - although I could use time blocking within GTD, as well... LOL
All that to say, this was an interesting look at your point of view, Francesco! Always enjoy your take on things and the information you share!
