not gonna lie, I teared up when Kelso thanked Ted sincerely. it was a short exchange but in context of everything that happened in those 7 seasons it was truly powerful and fitting.
Kelso is one of my favourite characters. He's meant to be evil, but he's really just misunderstood because of his job and he really does care. This episode really reflects his feelings and shows what a great character he is.
His job is to shoulder the burden of an impossible task. You see him first as the politician pretending he cares about the residents. Then he is seen as the evil guy who always is standing in the way of treating patients or upgrading the hospital. Finally, you see him as the actual man being crushed under a difficult job that he is doing everything to keep the hospital running. Whether that is budgeting, training doctors, keeping doctors working, negotiating with nurses, malpractice suits, ect. just trying to do the best he can. He never breathe a word about the struggle because his underlings have other issues.
@adamroach3771 I think most people who push back against things are like this. You sort of know employees, coworkers, kids will do things you disagree with, or even things that might be bad for them. People just don't want to make it easy, so they know where the line is for what is expected of them the other 99% of the time.
The scrubs writers are so awesome; all Kelso's previous double-edged compliments towards Ted were appropriate at the time, but it was great of them to have him sincerely thank him. How great! ^_^
Kelso saying thanks = epic. Man, this has to be his best part ever. Actually seeing him say something sincere to Ted after always busting his balls. This is great.
After all the years of watching scrubs and see Kelso make Ted's life a living hell, then to thank you, after all these years, just brought a tear to the eye :)
Kelso is the conservative hardass that does the hard things nobody else is willing to do, even if he doesn't want to do them. Dr. Cox is the persistent liberal who balances out Kelso and keeps him from going too far. Perfect dynamic.
Dr. Cox becoming Chief of Medicine is when liberals finally get a job and realise that there's more to life than hating daddy and mommy from the comfort of your basement.
Kelso, after his boss tries to fire him gets the chance to end things himself: "Shove it up your ass." I gotta tell ya, that's the kind of send of I want to give to a lot of MY former employers. Wonderful character, wonderful show, and a terrific cast. RIP Sam Loyd
I love how his last act was thanking Ted. And he truly meant it. Ted was kind of the dump pile of the group, but Kelso was still happy to have had him. It's just another one of those moments where you realize you don't understand Kelso as much as you thought you did. He wasn't evil. Just a businessman.
Kelso might have been a hard ass at times, but he truly did care about the hospital and the people he worked with. As a leader he at times had to put on that tough guy attitude, just like Cox does sometimes when he takes over.
Thats the reason i like scrubs its a comedy show but it always puts in an emotional episode like when laverne died or when jordans brother died or the last episode.
@Amputate i think earlier in the episode there was a gag about gomers getting out of their rooms and roaming about the hospital (and one guy even getting outside)
Kelso was the hate figure in the hospital thing was he knew this united everyone else against him as the common enemy. Remove the hate figure and they would start fighting amongst themselves and that would mean the hospital and the paitents would suffer.
What has two thumbs, doesn't give a crap, and is one of the best characters from Scrubs? Bob Kelso. I've never really paid attention to the later episodes, but this truly makes me sad. I knew that he had left the show, thanks to Wikipedia. But knowing, and seeing, are two different things. Thanks for the clip.
I cried like hardcore after this part...I mean its sad...no more Kelso? wtf? who will comment on his gay son anymore? and who will be a bitter old bastard? and when he says Thanks for everything Ted Sincerely, or when the fact that he actually cares about the hospital...it made me cry
Bob Kelso was the Professor Snape of Sacred Heart ... the bad guy who really WASN'T. "What has two thumbs and doesn't give a rat's ass? ... THIS GUY." Way to go, Ken Jenkins. Fantastic acting. You, too, Ted/Sam Lloyd (you are definitely missed).
I dunno. When your employer wants you to stay on and you instead tell him to "shove it up your ass" and then just walk out the door that sounds a lot more like quitting than it does retiring.

and the look in his eyes and on his face when he said it
Kelsos goodbye to Ted feels so much heavier now... RIP Sam Lloyd

What makes it amazing for me is the intern saying 'Yeah, He did.'
Kelso cared so much that he went back every day for coffee and made sure his successor had an easy transition by advising him
its lovley when he thanks Ted...

That guy who just wanders past and says hi cracks me up every time. :D

More than 40 years, I'm sure he cared about that place more than long enough.
Thank you, Sam. Sincerely. :'(
Too soon, but still sweet :(

and Kelso to help keep that balence convince JD to take Cox's place as the guy that fights him on the decisions.

Renektonisbae there it is the stupidest thing I’ve read today
@@NicktheLongman that doesn't makes sense bud
@@NicktheLongman Do you always have to turn everything into a lib vs con? You are whats wrong with America....Such a shame.

Rewatching scrubs and knowing where it's going, you understand Kelso alot more,
lol do you think the old guy who walked by and said "hi" was just improvised? the cast looked confused for a second
Boon really nailed his short line.
I love this show. It has everything.
What has two thumbs and doesn't give a damn? Bob Kelso!
you know kelso is a very underrated character in scrubs
Lol at 0:55, when the lighted spot on the wall stays there, despite the lamp being on the painting's frame.
I never would have noticed that in a million years
Thanks for everything Ted :(
It's one of the best moments from Scrubs.
You can look the video again and again and always you start to cry... :(
that's soo Kelso!!
gets fired, gets hired, quits!!
Ted can't tell if he is dreaming or hallucinating or what. but he is very very confused
You forgot a part.
What has two thumbs, has a funny voice, doesn't give a crap, and is one of the best characters still on Scrubs? BoB KeLsO!
I remember watching this 3-4 more times on NBC when they had it up there. This is one of the top 3 Scrubs episodes, easily.
i was pretty blown after this scene. i thought kelso would be gone for good
Definitely one comedy that needs a reunion season
But it will not be the same without Ted and maybe without Kelso.
The random elderly man who says "hi" always cracks me up. Zach Braff looks like he's about to burst out laughing too!
@8Sephiroth8 I can remember, I cried! That part was so touching! He finally said "thank you". Very moving. :)
possibly one of my most favourite episodes :D
the song is
Little Victories by Matt Nathanson
It was so sweet. I loved it!
kelso would make a good drill sergent
I can't help but smile every time I watch this =D happy ending for Dr. Kelso
Kelso might have been a hard ass at times, but he truly did care about the hospital and the people he worked with. As a leader he at times had to put on that tough guy attitude, just like Cox does sometimes when he takes over.
I love that episode, we miss you Bob.
i wonder if the scrubs directors think of the perfect song instantly or try a few
Thats the reason i like scrubs its a comedy show but it always puts in an emotional episode like when laverne died or when jordans brother died or the last episode.
@Amputate i think earlier in the episode there was a gag about gomers getting out of their rooms and roaming about the hospital (and one guy even getting outside)
he doesnt have a bad smile
I love his laugh when he nicks the photo.
I miss scubs
lmao, the old man 'hi' was just hilarious xD
That artist was talented!
hey, there's an all new office next.
Epic scene..
Kelso was the hate figure in the hospital thing was he knew this united everyone else against him as the common enemy. Remove the hate figure and they would start fighting amongst themselves and that would mean the hospital and the paitents would suffer.
Love Train by the O'Jays
I'm taking this with me, damnit! One great scene with Kelso :)
God, scrubs is a really funny show, but when it hits a sad spot it hits hard.

Dream goal, leave on my own terms and retire in peace
This scene was sooo sad :'(
Though it seems this was the only time he really showed his feelings to everyone xD
same here!!!! I cried too :(
thanks a lot
Yes since it was the last season on NBC everything was sloppy that medeval episode was suppose to be put out earlier
"hy..."
he kept his pride! total respect for Kelso!
Ken Jenkins clearly aged the most out of all actors throughout the series run.
He's 78 now apparently.
retirement looks go on bob
Is that the last episode? the ones i usally watch are reruns
Thanks for everything Sam, sincerely
saw this episode yesterday:P does he really quit? like forever?
what song is this
lol @ wikipedia being wrong again.
Kelso is around still, in every episode even. Infact Kelso and Cox become best friends.
He’s not all bad
got to love kelso's laugh
it is also doing that while hanging on the wall...

Nothing wrong with wamting to leave a job on your own terms.
"im taking this with me damn it!" *takes the portrait* "heheheheh" xD love kelso (not it the gay way)
if you add "no homo" or "not in the gay way" to your statement it instantly sounds gay
Don't you mean retired?
Six of one, half a dozen of the other
I dunno. When your employer wants you to stay on and you instead tell him to "shove it up your ass" and then just walk out the door that sounds a lot more like quitting than it does retiring.
