    Nobody's gonna actually play this, scientists only watch this because they're trying to understand aliens and how they play full speed.

      I've been trying to find balance recently with my plain strings and curious what gauge's are your high E B and G? and do you have an extended scale like 26.5"?

      I believe it's .009, .011, and .016 my scale length is 28" on this guitar.

      When you have the two A's and two E's down there you have extra low reinforced drop tuning options to play with. its sonic destruction.

    Dude this is sick, not just for showing us the song but also for explaining the whole theory and writing ideas/process behind it, which is really interesting and has given me a lot of writing inspiration/ideas, thank you ! I also have to ask did you study classical music because a lot of the theory concepts you seem to use in your writing are very typical of classical theory

      My pleasure! Yes, I did. Took 2 years of AP theory in high school while taking 1 to 2 additional private lessons every week with an assortment of teachers for years. I've also read a handful of theory books on various topics. Teachers were Nick Cordle, Oliver Althoen, Doug Osterkamp, Adam Speth, and Chuck Jay. Was basically doing lessons for like 5 years plus 2 years of high school theory classes.

    Ayy Miles! Recent music major graduate here, working in the music business now in management. As someone who has taken Theory I, II, III, IV, and jazz Theory, let me just say: MAN! I love your explanations. When this stuff moves by so quickly, especially the tapping portions, it's easy to think "sounds cool, 'alien' stuff, I get it." But you've illustrated the science behind your part-writing and I admire it even more now! Thank you for the one-take instruction video. Love it!

    This album is going to be their best work in terms of a neoclassical approach.
    Embryonic anomaly was insane for the sake of being insane. With excessively technical; and what some may say unnecessary, use of diminished scales. Yet it was one of the most interesting albums in metal.
    Dingir was straight up deathcore heaviness with some overlapping tech parts. It was better than embryonic because it felt less forced and seemed more professional...in addition to being produced cleaner as well. They capitalized on the term coined after them "aliencore" in this album by infusing dissonant chords with diminished scales.
    Lugal Ki En was one of the most extraordinarily melodic and technical records we've ever had. The use of synth and acoustic was executed perfectly when done with every song on the album. It was the first time I had a magnificent revelation that what I was listening to truly sounded 100% inhuman. It was as if the first listen from start to finish left me in shock and I was intoxicated by the complexity and utter talent that these guys have. The second listen I was still just as blown away. Not to mention it was the album that brought in a third of the current fan base.
    So far Ultu Ulla gives me the impression of a more traditional and fluid sound as opposed to maniacal riffs filled with violent finger tapping. I'm excited!

    • @InterloperBand
      @InterloperBand  7 років тому +13

      Thanks. Previous records don't use a whole lot of diminished scales at all. Generally using whole tone stuff with harmonies of a major third as opposed to a diatonic harmony. This record is far more in the tonal realm of music vs a lot of atonal stuff as heard in previous records. Very structured and written with a different mindset, while keeping the 'classic' stylistic sounds previously heard on older records.

    • @InterloperBand
      @InterloperBand  7 років тому +4

      Totally dude! Didn't intend on sounding rude at all. Yeah, there's a lot of synth and a handful of nylon parts. Thanks again!

Honestly, I don't know dick about theory ( despite being pretty good at playing ) but it's awesome to see that you speak theory so fluently, and never stumble as to the perfect explanation of what's going on. And I needn't say anything about your playing ability. You truly amaze me. Thanks for the video, and best of luck on summer slaughter. I hope to see you guys again.

    Mega respect for this, seriously. I haven't seen many video lessons where people have the theory knowledge to back up their own music, it's usually just "so yeah you play this then this then this then back to that... y'know, because it sounds cool... what is it? hell if I know."great lesson, now all I need is an 8-string...

      Thank you! You can do this on a 7. Looking at the notes, not the amount of strings. Just a few things will be up at the octave.

    Holy shit man, you are a natural teacher.
    Even I ( a man that sucks at music theory ) was able to understand.

    Can't say I'm a fan of the band at all, but very impressive breakdown of your music sir. Great stuff, good learning experience.

    It's quite refreshing to see a person in these sort of genres actually know what he/she's doing.

    just came here for the neoclassical tapping sequence haha.
    Honestly no theory here just been finding patterns by ear for 14 years and the way he explained this was probably the most i have learned about theory and actually understood in that entire time. I now want lessons from him on theory haha.
