Hell yes! Thank you! Perfect sequence of steps, as soon as I separated and tried to move the kick fader I was like,.."NICE...NOW WHAT DO I d...oh...hell yeah!"
Thank you for posting this simple task. I couldn't find it in any of the manuals, but it makes sense once you run through it. Edit: btw, the additional info is exceptionally useful, too. I'm quite glad I watched until the end!
This video made me subscribe! Thanks for showing us how to do this step by step. Just recently switched from FL to Logic and the drums have been the biggest learning curve a far. Thanks again for the clear tutorial!
Helpful video thanks. I've got a drum track that has Drummer regions as well as some converted to midi and the multi-output option works with the midi in the track as well as the Drummer regions in Logic Pro X 10.4.8
That sounds like a lot of layers! Very coo...l but you know its a lot to manage.. I would recommend doing some of these techniques to get things separated as you want and then use track stacks to "re group" the tracks... also sometimes I do not separate every drum ... for example if I have multiple hi hat sample playing a groove I don't always split out every hi hat... or multiple cymbals...Just remeber you don't HAVE to separate every drum just do it for what you need to have more control over in terms of Compression EQ and reverb sends. hope that helps!
No it’s just one drum track. I converted some regions to midi for editing. Guess all I was trying to say that switching to multiple outputs worked on midi as well.
Forgive me if this is already answered -- Is there a way to split a 'drummer' track into separate tracks (not just in the mixer but on the editing window with regions) similar to the way you split the Ultrabeat track into 3 tracks? Thank you in advance!
Yes you can! Just right click the drummer file and select Convert to MIDI then proceed with the same process of separate by note pitch like in ultrabeat. Hope that helps!
your tone of voice at 9:50 after hearing what that region stretch sounded like...lol I felt that your videos are killer though i am having lots of fun over here
Thanks, but how come I can't mute or solo a single piece of the kit, everything mutes or reduces DBs collectively, is there any way to have them as autonomous tracks when you separate notes by pitch. Thank you
Yeah once you separate by note pitch go back to the first track and duplicate it as many times as needed for your different tracks. You can see what I did at 06:57 that will give you independent control of volume and everything else! Hope that helps!
Yeah Question. Wouldn't creating more ultrabeats take up more cpu ? Is creating multiple ultrabeats the only way to be able to individually control volume levels? Thanks
Jaysun Yeah it Will eat up a little bit more CPU but Ultrabeat isn’t that much of a hog. You can set up a multiout in Ultrabeat or you can adjust the levels on the slider in the plugin)I don’t like that way). This is just the fastest way to me. But setting multi out in ultrabeat is another good way. Cheers.
Hey man. Love the vid. Just subscribed. My question is... how can I do the same thing, but while using Superior Drummer 3, not Logic Drummer? I’m having a hell of time trying to figure out how I can isolate each track/mic so I can mix kick/snare/hat/etc. separately.
Thank you that was very helpful. I’m hoping that I can export the drummer tracks as component parts rather than as a whole. I need to take them into a studio for mixing and want them as wave files
Yeah there is probably an easier way to do it...but what I would suggest is soloing each piece of the kit and bouncing the files individually as WAVs that way you can bring them into another mix session later.
Ran lots of experiments last night. I am running Mavericks. I found that going down the producer kit path, revealing all tracks in the desired drummer kit, selecting them all and Exporting them to later join the rest of the tracks exported as a second export event worked great. Flipping over into the producer kits definitely saves time even though Mavericks cant fully utilize their functionality. Thank you very much for your help. This is great.
If you really wanted to mono Ultrabeat the easiest thing to do would be to put a mono plugin after you load ultrabeat. you can find that in utility>gain> then once you load it that plugin just hit the mono button.
Hey man. yeah go to time 6:06 in the video. Right click choose seperate by note pitch then duplicate ultra beat for each drum you have. Then either solo and bounce each one or choose file>export>export all tracks as audio files. Hope that helps!
Thanks for your video! Would this also be possible with a single audio recorded drumtrack? Logic Pro then would have to recognize the seperate instruments based on frequencys instead of midi information
Thanks for the video. I am having an issue selecting multi output. I loaded a drum kit from the library, and all I see from the channel strip options are the dynamics/effects loaded with the kit. Where can I change the input settings? Thanks
Nevermind. I figured it out. I noticed the drop down from the region’s window that has the midi notes already separated within the track itself. Once again, thanks for the video!
what if you use an external Akai MOD226 and you want to use it as multitimbral? I tried so may times but even after you click + on the main channel to create more AUX (individual outputs) I can still hear the parts ONLY on the channel where the Essential plugin is inserted the AUX are useless, no way to have control of the part on these separate outputs. It works , but only for the multi instrument plug-ins within LogicX
Everything works for me within ultrabeat, I can also hear the drums when I play them in the song but when I try to solo them they just turn silent. They're not in mute or anything, they are just silent. I can't process them individually on the aux track nor on individual tracks after i press "separate by note pitch". Compressors, reverb etc doesn't work at all and if I try to solo one track every track turns into solo. Do you have any idea what could be the problem? Thx for video, thumbs up! =)
Adam Elm after you separate by note pitch you need to duplicate the plugin for each sound on the kit. Then drag the region to that new version of the plugin. Otherwise yes if you solo 1 track they all get soloed. Did you get it to work??
You can convert to MIDI and then separate out the Tom tracks by copying the Tom’s in each midi event for its own track. Sounds confusing but pretty straight forward.
Sorry no way to do this on recorded drums.. you just need to get the sound in the mixer and commit. I would looks at getting an interface with at least 4 channels.. but until then play with getting a good balanced mix on your mixer and committing a stereo mix to your interface. Also you could try just doing a two mic set up.. with kick and over head and then you have control over those two after the recording is done....
Mgmt Corona You can do what I do staring at 05:30 but it you want to do the “plus sign thing” you can find that routing “under the hood” in exs24. Make the exs24 multi out then open it and click edit. You should see some routing options similar to ultrabeat. I don’t have a video but I will try to make one soon. Let me know if that helps.
you are the King on Here.... pls more stuff llike this you teach well....i just subscribe to your channel pls how can i made my mix stand out well/ or sounds well
Hey! So glad this was helpful. thanks for the sub... check out my free Logic course and EQ course for more tips and tricks that are super helpful. Links in the description. I am working on more mixing courses but what are you trying to improve on specifically??
You could do the midi loops but the not the audio... At least not like the way I showed you. For audio you could try to use EQ to split the Kick from the snare and High Hats. its not perfect but it works. Copy audio to 3 lanes and use EQ to cut each file into lows mids and highs.. this gives you some more control and you could do things like send the snare only to reverb or delay.. things like that... I rarely do it but sometimes its needed.
Jim Magary As long as you created new instances of the original ultra beat after you separated the files you should be able to right click the track icon and change the picture. But if you just chose separate buy note pitch And didn’t make new tracks it might not be an option.
thank you! here i am downloading ez drummer just to try and do this "simple" thing
Brilliant!

Um... you can do that with one click by just switching to the Producer kits in logic drummer.
Yeah thats a good way to do it too.
This was a great tutorial. Why do the separated tracks only show up in the mixer screen?
Hey glad this helped.. yeah it only shows up on mixer for the first two ways.. if you look at the end of the video I have a work around for that too.
Thanks I needed that
