      Thanks brother, I really do try to put effort into the “content creation” side of things. I understand that listening to these relatively dry topics can be boring, so I try to make it as entertaining as possible 🙏

    One thing about Auden is that in the future he for sure will be competing in the heavy or superheavy weight categories, so it's a lot simpler for him. He already talked about this on some podcast, don't remember which.

    • @EastsideArmWrestling
      @EastsideArmWrestling  5 місяців тому +1

      Yeap, and for him he has the privilege of picking and choosing his opponents along the way. Unfortunately for the rest of us, if we want to do the same thing as him, we’d have to slog through years and years of just getting our ass whooped by way stronger guys at our weight, which can be extremely disheartening.

      @@EastsideArmWrestling I myself am in a permabulk since I started going to the gym, used to be around 54 to 56 kg, now I'm walking around at 65kg, I plan to keep bulking until I feel I've reach something close to my natural limit, then I might consider cutting to fit some weight division, since my objective is to get as strong as possible in absolute strength, and I don't want to cap myself because of weight categories (Auden said the same thing). It's a long journey, but I believe it's worth it at the end.
      One thing I must say though: I have the "benefit" of not having a place to compete where I live, so I can just focus on training and getting better steadily, and I also don't mind losing to someone stringer, I actually like the challenge and it motivates me, it's like trying to beat a hard boss in dark souls: you get your but handed to you, go back to farm some souls, get better, smarter, a little faster, and repeat the process until eventually you get there. So even if I was competing regularly, I figure I would still continue trying to gain weight regardless of losing frequently.

    I fell into this trap! Dirty bulked up from 78kg to 90kg, and although I gained some muscle and strength, I was not happy when I looked at myself shirtless in the mirror. Back down to around 86-87kg now, but still have a decent amount of excess fat to shed. Wouldn’t be surprised if I end up around the same weight I started at 😅

    • @EastsideArmWrestling
      @EastsideArmWrestling  5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, the aesthetic thing is something people might discount too. If you’re just unhappy with yourself in the mirror everyday, it can be a big blow to your confidence and motivation.

    I dont see anything wrong with dirty bulking if you're doing a proper bodybuilding split mixed with armwrestling specific lifts. Doing only armwrestling lifts is a bad way to move up a weight class unless you're juiced.

    • @EastsideArmWrestling
      @EastsideArmWrestling  5 місяців тому +1

      I think there’s a conflation here between “dirty” and “excessive” bulking (the former just refers to bulking without much care for the type of macros). The kind that I’m referring to in this instance is excessive bulking (which is possible, albeit very difficult with “clean” bulking).
      At some point, with excessive bulking, the fat increase vastly overwhelms the muscle increase, which is counterproductive for most people.
      It is true that with a greater caloric surplus, you’d be able to milk more muscle and strength gains, but IF your goal is to be somewhat competitive too, then you’d be doing yourself a disservice with the extra unnecessary amount of time needed to cut back down to a reasonable weight.

    Kind of hoping to see Auden get fat and then get destroyed. But then again he probably isn’t going to take any legit tough matches for awhile, gotta generate some artificial hype around his name from just getting any wins

    • @EastsideArmWrestling

      Yeah, Auden has the privilege of not having to fight people of his weight/experience level due to his name. Unfortunately for the rest of us, we don’t have this luxury, so this type of bulking will be detrimental.

    Oh, and lean bulking isn't a thing. If you want to build muscle you need to be in a decent surplus and put on a fair amount of fat. Mike Israetel gives great advice and knows the literature, but recently, the juice is getting to his head, and he's giving questionable advice.

    • @EastsideArmWrestling
      @EastsideArmWrestling  5 місяців тому

      Dr. Mike doesn’t actually advocate for “lean bulking” or “main-gaining” in the same way that, say, Greg Doucette does. In fact, he is a fan of getting into a decent caloric surplus, just not overdoing it.
