I saw her leave the luau
With the one who parked the cars
And the fat one from the swimming pool
They were swaying arm in arm
I could hear the ukuleles playing
    Down by the sea
She's gone with the hula hula boys
    She don't care about me
She's gone with the hula hula boys
    She don't care about me
    They're singing,
Ha'ina 'ia mai ana ka puana (everybody sing the chorus together now!)
Ha'ina 'ia mai ana ka puana (everybody sing the chorus together now!)
Ha'ina 'ia mai ana ka puana (everybody sing the chorus together now!)
Ha'ina 'ia mai ana ka puana (everybody sing the chorus together now!)
    Yesterday she went to see
    The Polynesian band
But she came home with her hair all wet
And her clothes all filled with sand
I didn't have to come to Maui
To be treated like a jerk
How do you think I feel
When I see the bellboys smirk?
And I can hear the ukuleles playing
    Down by the sea
She's gone with the hula hula boys
    She don't care about me
    They're signing,
Ha'ina 'ia mai ana ka puana (everybody sing the chorus together now!)
Ha'ina 'ia mai ana ka puana (everybody sing the chorus together now!)
Ha'ina 'ia mai ana ka puana (everybody sing the chorus together now!)
Ha'ina 'ia mai ana ka puana (everybody sing the chorus together now!)
Ha'ina 'ia mai ana ka puana (everybody sing the chorus together now!)
Ha'ina 'ia mai ana ka puana (everybody sing the chorus together now!)
Ha’ina ‘ia mai ana ka puana (everybody sing the chorus together now!)
Ha’ina ‘ia mai ana ka puana (everybody sing the chorus together now!)

Well, if I use Google translator, and I enter this sentence and choose Maori, I get as English translation: "Sign up and it will be fine", not "Everybody sings the ....now" !!!!

I had not ever heard this song before I did a cover of it on bass last night... I've listened to this song 2 dozen times already today... What an absolutely amazing song, like every other one of his songs that I've heard... He was a musical genius that I have so very much respect for... What a Legend.

The piano is out front in this version, deservedly so. Guitar and steel guitar just carry you along. Lovely version all around!

Always wondered what the Hawaiian words were, could never sing them.
    Thanks for the lyrics!
    RIP WARREN ZEVON ✝️ ❤

According to Google translator it means something else as is written here: try it with Maori to English and you get: "Sign up and it will be fine"

The Metro in Chicago on September 30, 1982? Wasn’t the next night at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey? Just curious. WZ was the best! 🎹☠️👍🏻
