    My motorcycle is having the rad hose collapse while revving. I'm curious if the rad cap could cause that as well

    Was the collapsed radiator hose extremely hot before releasing the radiator cap? Or was it running normal just a collapsed hose from bad cap? Thanks.....

    Hi I have a 1997 Ford Mustang Automatic V6 and the radiator hose is collapsed. I felt the overflow line and it didnt seem clogged and also I took off the radiator cap and it did not release the pressure. My overflow tank is over the Hot Full line although its in the 40's outside. Do you think that if I suck out some of the radiator fluid it will release the pressure?

      @mci2727  7 років тому +1

      No, I don't think that your overflow tank is the issue +Michael Brown
      When the car is cold (hasn't been running) the hose is probably collapsed too, correct?
      Sounds like your hose maybe needing to be replaced to me, when's the last time you put a new one on?

    @Micah G Robinson Do you recomend this car ? i wanted to buy one but after seeing how many issues this car has im kinda scared of it , do you find it to be reliable ? comparing with an audi from same year or vw golf / passat . thank you !

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  7 років тому

      ALeX T. Thanks for your comment, appreciate you taking the time. I do actually find the car extremely reliable, especially for what was originally an economy car in the sub $20,000 price point. The manual transmission has a couple of known issues that have to be fixed, but the automatic are bullet proof.
      I'd buy another in a heartbeat if I were in the market for something affordable and reliable, but okay with a cheaper made car (plastic parts, rattles a bit etc)
      Thanks!

    You apparently misunderstand something really important: water pressure rises one pound for every two feet in altitude, so with your cap being a foot above the level in your overflow tank, OF COURSE there will be ~0.5psi of continuing suction in your upper radiator hose, because that is what is needed to lift coolant from your overflow tank.
    This easily collapses some upper radiator hoses. The fix for this, as seen in some new cars, is to install springs in the radiator hoses to keep them from collapsing.
    A big problem is then created years later, when some repairman discards the original hoses - including the springs within them.
    I learned all this from an old Volvo, whose upper radiator hose would collapse SO flat that it restricted the flow of coolant and seriously overheat.
    Now, I have just started working on an old RV with a 454 engine that seems to be doing somewhat the same thing - it first heats which expels some coolant, then cools down which collapses the upper radiator hose, then cyclically overheats from the restriction and subsequent steam, and then takes forever to suck coolant back in so the journey can continue. Time to make another spring?
    Thoughts?

      Everything you say maybe true, however it still remains that a new cap and new hose fixed my issue and a few others I've worked on. I still drive this car daily and that hose and cap are still on there working like new.
      Thanks

    Mine does the same thing. At first for a while I just did the same thing you did, remove the radiator cap and put it back on. After awhile I was tired of opening my hood every time I got to my car. So, I just start the car normally. And the hoses work themselves out.

      +XxwonderbredxX Did you watch the entire video? It's a sign your radiator cap needs to be replaced. Easy fix :)

      +Micah G Robinson yeah, I did. I thought I replaced it with a oem one. ive put 3k in repairs in my 02 OZ, it'd hard to keep track on what I did and what I didn't do.
      great video tho

    What if the suction doesn't repop the hose when you take the cap off?? Hose is new!

    would this cause your car to run at high temperatures

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  8 років тому

      +Jose Garcia No it shouldn't unless it's REALLY badly collapsed and blocking the flow, like really badly.
      It's more likely you're having some other issue that needs to be addressed.
      A common problem and something to look at is if your fan controler is bad. There was a recall and the dealer should be able to look your vin up and see if it was replaced.
      Mine finally went bad last year and I had it replaced

    My Buick was doing this turned out the over flow hose was plugged really bad.

      I think that's such a rare thing to have happen!
      But it can :)
      I believe I mentioned that in this video?
      Thanks so much for your comment.

    I have suction on top hose without the cap being on and if i idle the car the coolant slowly rises and over flows

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  6 років тому +1

      It's probably an old bad hose that's weak. My car will overflow at idle as it warms up if I leave the cap off.
      I'd replace the hose if it's got age on it.

    Check the rad cap first, hoses collapsing normally means that the cap needs cleaning. More likely causing a suction on the system. Clean it out and problem solved... ;)

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  7 років тому

      I prefer to just replace the cap, cleaning isn't an ideal fix IMO as the cap probably has many years of use on it when this problem arises.
      Thanks for your comment!

      It is if it’s a rare TRD cap that’s been discontinued for years. I’m going to give cleaning mine a shot.
      Thanks to both of you.

      Sorry, I'm just now seeing your comment for some reason. If it's still doing it, I'd check and see if the hose needs to be replaced. How old is the hose?

      My hose was doing the same thing so I checked my coolant overflow hose and it was clogged so I blew it out with compressed air

      It is possible that the thermostat needs to be changed out. This probably doesn't help you since it's 5 years later tho.
