    The best drum sound ever. Nothing beats a punchy and crisp 80s snare!

    Cool! Please do 70s Fleetwood Mac/ Eagles / Steely Dan drum sounds! Tight, dry and crisp, would be a cool counterpoint to this vid :)

      Steve Gadd! But you're right, dead drums can be a lot of fun too. I enjoy playing reggae with the towels over toms.

    Awesome!!! I went to a lot of concerts in the 70's, 80's, & 90's. The sound of the drums was so huge. Always wondered if any FX was added to them and what kind.

    Not bad, but there's a difference between the early eighties and late 80s. 70s and early 80s had the concert toms with no resonant heads, but the late 80s had power toms with the bottom heads on. I'm generalizing, there are always exceptions of course

    I'm not really big on stadium rock but you guys did a great job here of recording drums in general and I'm glad you showed the basics of what you did rather than just jumping to the reverb treatment part. That Kate Bush sound is really nice.

    Could you guys please recreate that signature Rick Allen Of Def Leppard Snare Sound? It's a really distinctive sound. Specifically the Hysteria Album??

    • @mrufino1
      @mrufino1 3 роки тому +2

      A reply 1 year later, but the drums on pyromania were all programmed with live cymbal playing. I think the samples were triggered from an AMS delay unit. For hysteria, definitely electronic drums as Rik Allen had already had his accident, but I don’t know how much was played and how much was programmed.

    I‘d like to hear how you‘d replicate Peter Gabriels Come Talk To Me. I think it is not typical drumset, but rather different african percussions mixed with concert toms? No idea. But would be highly interested, since this is one of the most appealing and strange percussive tracks I ever heard.

    How many tracks were used to record the kit, and were the trigger effects processed pre or post tape? The gates are obviously pre-tape. Trying to recall how we recorded back in the mid 80s.

    ??? Are you all kidding? 80's Stadium (arena rock, we called it) drum sounds were usually HORRIBLE! SUre, the snare and bass drum were heard, polar opposites, a deep, deadened thud, and a high pitch gunshot with too much reverb! The rest of kits usually lacked cutting thru the rest of the PA eminating an overpowered sound throughout a large area. I saw many acts at Notre Dame ACC (the basketball arena) like the forementioned Heart, Kiss, Ratt, Poison, Van Halen, REO Speedwagon, and a few others, and I remember the drums NOT sounding like on their albums...they all sounded similar....some not even pleasant to listen to during a drum solo. Everthing was big and excessive in the 80's, from hairstyles to drum hardware to live music PAs....louder isnt always better, but it did kinda cover for crappy guitarists :D
