  • Slang Words in Portuguese // In this video I speak about Portuguese slang words. You can also check out my blog post about this topic: learn-portugue...
    Fixe - Cool
    Tasse - It comes from "está-se bem", which then is transformed in "tasse bem" and at the end we just say “tasse” to say or ask if everything is going well.
    Tá tudo? - This is also something we use to ask if everything is ok. It comes from "Está tudo bem”, which becomes "Tá tudo bem?" and finally just “Tá tudo?”.
    Que Pisso - This means something like “How lucky!”…when something just happens the way someone wants by luck.
    Tótil - Of unknown origin, it means “A lot/ Very”.
    Bué - it has its origin in an African dialect and it means “A lot/ Very”.
    Tuga - This is the name we call the Portuguese people - “os tugas” are “the Portuguese”. It comes from “Portugal”.
    Giro/ Gira - We use this word pretty much for everything. To say that something is beautiful, cute or fluffy. We use it A LOT! Tótil, if you know what I mean =)

    Total I think is American English in the 80s and 90s we used the word totally. It means complete. We used it to describe something we really liked or to emphasize something
    This channel is totally cool, or total fixe

    I have to say that "tótil" is not used anymore, as far as I know (live here for 40 years), it was used in the 80ies or 90ies. For me it ment "okay", "everything" or "a lot", not that sure anymore. I am from the south, perhaps it was diferent in the north. Also "pisso" I don't know. I could perhaps understand it as a "repriment" from a boss or something like he gave a "piçada". "Pisso" for lucky is knew to me and, again, perhaps they used it in the past or still do in the north of Portugal. All the others a I agree with.

      Olá :) Thank you for your input. I am from Porto, and although it is true that "tótil" was used more frequently in the late 90s and early 2000s (when I was a teenager), it is still used here often :) In the south I believe it was never as used as in here. I think "bué" was always more used than "tótil" in the south. "Pisso" is something like lucky here in Porto and around :) Again, maybe in the south it is different :) Thank you again for your input. It is always great to see the little differences, even within the same country :)

    Do you think tótil could come from English “total” or “totally”? As in “totally cool” or “he is totally like that” “it was a total disaster”

    • @MiaEsmerizAcademy
      @MiaEsmerizAcademy  4 роки тому +2

      I don't really know, but that is a possibility! :) That could totally be the case...
      However, we also have the word "totalmente" and "total", that is the translation for "totally" and "total". But they might be from the same family, yup! ;)

    • @MiaEsmerizAcademy
      @MiaEsmerizAcademy  3 роки тому +1

      Inté só se ouve no Português brasileiro ou quando queremos fazer uma graça em Português de Portugal. Eu acho que é um regionalismo e é usado apenas em certas regiões do Brasil. Acho que vem de “Até mais” ou “Até já” e significa a mesma coisa 😊

    • @wilsondecarvalho3348

      @@MiaEsmerizAcademy , vem sim do Brasil. É bem comum no meu estado (Minas Gerais) e é um regionalismo ("mineirês", para os íntimos). Esbarrei por acaso no seu canal e achei bem bacana. Parabéns! 🙂
      EDIT: ah, realmente significa "Até mais", "Até já" ou "Até logo". Inté.

    Olá professora! Vocês usam a expressão "... português da gema" como dizem os brasileiros ? /Sou mineiro da gema, por exemplo/.

  • @kamenkokasikovic2499
