I have seen a few versions of this effect . I found yours to be the most easily understood. My project consists of 9 screens (2 photo frames of 4 images and a separate frame for 1) so it will be very complicated. Subscribed 🙂
Hi, thank you for the nice tutorial. How can I speed up the replaced screen? I did anything like in the tutorial, but the replaced video playing slower than it should.
hopefully you can help, im trying to do a transition with something that is further away and circular. For example a coffee mug with coffee inside and im coming straight at the mug from a distance and want the transition video to show the whole time until im up close to the coffee to where i will transition into that video. For some reason the scale of the video after masking changes due to the distance and i want the video to stay the same size as the mug is but zooming in changes the size of the background video for some reason?
I have 2 questions. 1st - My screen that I want my video to go over is not a square, it is a custom shape. How do I get around that? 2nd - The video that is over my screen, is not too scale. its zoomed in way to much, how do I get around that? Appreciate your videos!
Check out our latest Fusion Masterclass, it deals with that issue and shows how to fix the exact problem you are describing. Hope that helps. Thanks so much for watching.
Hi from Greece. Is there a workflow to do the same thing but on a rotating screen? for example I have a clip of a hand holding a phone and the clip starts showing the side of that phone, slowly turning to reveal the whole screen. Do I have to do the tracking frame by frame? Thanks and keep up.👍
Heya, it's possible to do a combo of tracking and manual keyframing. Tracking will likely become difficult the more extreme the angle of the phone. Check out our latest Fusion Masterclass. Because we show some techniques for difficult planar tracks in there that might solve your problem.
Add the rounded edges to the comp before applying to the screen. You can add them with a rectangle mask with rounded corners. You could apply it as an effect mask when merging with a transparent background. Hope that helps.
Great tutorial! Although for some reason when I change to corner pin, adjust the shape, the planar tracker suddenly doesn't track it anymore. While it does if I leave it on "track". Not sure why this is the case?
Sorry to hear you are having problems! Sorry it's difficult to diagnose without more information. Have you been able to troubleshoot your issue, or is there more info you can provide?
Really nice tutorial. But i have a problem. Somone walkes through the screen in my footage. That destroys the track. What should I do? It cant track when there is a person in front of the screen
Couple of questions... Why when I change the contrast or the brightness I see the correction in made in a rectangular not aligned with thecorner pin? Actually I see in your video you correct only saturation and gain.. Second question: there is any way to have more soft border of the image in the corner pin? Sometimes the edges are so visible and make the result less realistic. Thanks
Enable Multiply By Mask in the settings page of the Color Corrector node. That should fix your problem. Yes there are ways of softening the border. A simple way would be to put a soft edge on the image you are compositing onto the screen. There are many other ways too. Hope that gets you pointed in the right direction. Thanks for watching.
hey man thank u so much for the tutorial. how do i add more corner pins so i can make a more custom shape? Or do i then need to use a different tracker?
im trying to make my background move with my character after ive keyed out the green screen, I do everything step by step, character is tracked, but when I merge the background from the media pool nothing happens to it
It sounds like you want to do a match move. Try configuring it to show the BG or FG only depending on how you have your inputs configured. Let us know how that goes.
hello sir! nice tutorial! I have a problem, my color grande on the whole shot made in color window affect also my screen replacement destroing it! there is a way to avoid it? thank you!
Hello! That's a good question. We'll shoot some new footage and queue that up for another lesson on screen replacement. No idea on when that will be scheduled though.
what happens when someone is blocking the screen? like a shoulder or a cup? Why is a video I'm trying to drag on a screen not playing its full length? when dragged into the fusion comp, its about half its original length. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you
Hello, if the screen is obscured you will have to either key, or manually rotoscope the object. Check the in and out points of the footage you are inserting in the inspector and the keyframe editor. Hope that helps!
hey, how would you go about replacing screen if the screen has a video playing in it? ive spent well over a few hours trying to figure this out. what happends is that the content on the screen has a camera pan in it and it moves the tracker. i should mention that the clip with the screen also has movement.
Hello, great question. It's going to be harder, but it should be possible. In most instances you can get away with tracking the bevel around the screen. Exclude the moving image but include as much of the bevel as possible.
Irregular surfaces won't work with the planar tracker. Try the surface tracker instead. If you're working with a flat surface that is triangular, you'll want to mask the object you are applying to the surface.
What should I do if the screen has basically nothing on it? i try working with the tracker but when it moves to the next frames all the tracking dots just disappear off screen! What do i do??
Sometimes you can track by including the edges of the screen. You might need to add a hold out for the reflections on the middle of the screen. Basically it's difficult but not impossible. There is going to be way more manual work. Maybe we'll make a tutorial on tracking a featureless screens in the future.
Hi! I'm not working in color managed workflow. I use CST's for my SLOG3 footage (CST 1 = slog3 to DWG | CST 2 = DWG to rec709) when color grading.. but the moment I go to fusion page it goes back to log footage so whenever I place vfx stuff in it the colors exposure etc etc don't match up.. any help would be appreciated!
Colour operations happen after the fusion page operations. The Fusion page does not show your colour page operations. This is one of the advantages of using color management. It is performed before the media goes to the fusion page. If you need your footage to be colour managed inside the fusion page, either switch to RCM, or move your CST node to within your fusion comp. Alternatively, watch our latest video (Fusion Masterclass). We show how to integrate colour page grades into your Fusion compositions.
