  • hey there! i wanted to make a follow-up video to the one i posted about a month ago, speaking more about my experience as a corporate lawyer and why i left a large international law firm.
a note: i don’t have any dependents or family members to take care of, i don’t have any long-standing health issues and i've never experienced any bias relating to race, sexuality or disability. i am super privileged to be able to take time off of work to figure my shit out, and it’s worth bearing this in mind when watching the video!
let me know if you have any questions and i hope to see you here again soon ♡

Couldn’t stop crying watching your videos - am in a similar lost stage as a law student. Finding it hard to believe that a corporate law job would really give me the fulfillment I want. Just wanna say what you shared are absolutely inspiring and I really should take time to think and unpack what I’m feeling. All the best to you Ali 🌸

Just discovered this video and as a lawyer it resonates so much. Unfortunately, after doing insurance defense litigation for several years, I don’t feel qualified for particularly anything.

    • @AlianaChambers

I have a lot of ex-colleagues who feel the same way ❤️ you definitely are qualified to tackle many things and will have lots of transferable skills! I would definitely want a litigator (or ex-litigator) on my team, whatever role that may be. I also know a couple of lawyers in private practice who are choosing to work a four-day week so they can carve out space to discover new things. Wishing you lots of joy ✨

Being "gifted" is a curse I am slowly coming to terms with. My problem was, that I never, and I mean never, struggled to get through school with ok grades. Not great, pretty average actually, but wit ZERO effort. Then, I went to university, where I ran into a wall for the first 1,5 years, because I couldn´t study. Never had to before. Finished with reasonable grades and the newfound ability to study. Then, Covid hit and I landed my first job by accident, which again, took zero effort. I did that job for two years, because what else was there to do, when I was told I needed a masters degree in order to progress. And here I am, bored out of my mind with studying again, hating to be degraded to an ibacilic toddler again, and having zero idea, where to go from here. I didn´t need the Masters for anything other than the title, and now I am very close to just throwing the towel, because I just do not care and I am not even learing anything. Why is the modern world so hung up on ticking boxes? How did a piece of paper become more important than experience? Why is work so meaningless and stressfull? When did we allow life to become so pointless?

I gave up on becoming a CPA when I tried studying for the exam at age 42. They want you to devote your whole darn life to that stuff. If I have a choice, then no thanks. Thankfully you can still get accounting jobs without it for the time being. Unless you really want to be high up in a firm that does audit and taxes.

hi there! congrats on completing your LLB 🎉 i don't think i would be the best person to advise you on what masters course to take - there are so many factors to consider in that decision! but if it helps, i did take a corporate law module as part of my undergraduate studies and found it useful. wishing you the best of luck in the future! ✨

i can see why you would feel like that! interestingly, over half of the people who joined the law firm when I did (the grad intake) have now left the firm, and we all applied because we thought we would enjoy it. sometimes you have to try something for a few years to see if it’s right for you, and it’s okay to change your mind 😊
