    I'm a Respiratory Therapist of 12 years, nearly all critical care experience, and I've always been envious of nurses who can bridge to a CRNA program. I didn't know CAA was an equivalent program! My GPA was a 3.0 in undergrad so I'd most likely have to take a post-bacc, then take the MCAT and do well on both in order to be a competitive applicant?

    You have inspired me to be a CAA and I want to thank you for that. I have a Masters in Psychology but I want a career change. I live in Houston and I’m trying to take the prerequisites. It’s very confusing as to how to take these prerequisites for CAA because I went to the University of Houston admissions dept and they looked at me like they didn’t know what I was talking about, although they have a whole website with a list of prerequisites for CAA. They were confused and then the lady just told me I need to major in a science which I don’t understand because like I stated to her I just need the prerequisites but she said I need to major in Biology or some kind of science 😢 I’m really struggling trying to take these prerequisites because I guess it’s not common for people to ask about this in college.

    3,5 GPA is near perfection. I don't understand how such a feat can be accomplished. Basically you need to be perfect and excel during years. I don't know how it is in the USA, but in Spain we have 1 to 10 grading system and it's literally impossible to achieve such marks. I'm so discouraged. Hi Chabely! I am interested in pursuing the CAA route and I have loved watching your videos. I do have couple questions for you.
    1) I still have to do a few things for my application including getting my shadowing hours, possibly retaking the GRE and writing my personal statement. When do you recommend getting applications turned in? I know a lot of the schools have different deadlines and that a lot have rolling admission, but what timeframe do you recommend? When did you submit your applications?
    2) I took the GRE last year and got a 156 Verbal, 153 Quant, and a 4.5 Analytical writing and my GPA is a 3.96. Do you think I should retake my GRE because of my lower quant score? What were your scores and other CAA students' scores if I may ask?
    3) What would you focus on writing about in the personal statement? I have about 800 hours of patient care experience having worked and volunteered in Physical therapy as an aide, do you think it would be good to include that on the application and on the personal statement?
    thank you!

First, what would I major in college, and also, does what I learned in high school affect my classes in college? Because I forgot a bunch on math, chem, and bio. I don't know too much about how college works, and I'm willing to work hard for the college classes for calc,bio,chem, and other sciences I have no idea about. How do I apply as an international student, I have looked at a schools and on many of their websites you need to complete your prerequisite in the states but many of these prerequisite I have completed in course , I’m from SA and graduating BSc Medical Bioscience soon and would like to pursue this career

      I just read this for Case Western and it seems like unless you are from the US, a US territory, or Canada the pre-reqs must be completed within one of those 3. It's not a topic I know much about but if you find out please share. Thank you and good luck!

    It seems like it is very challenging to get into AA school. You need to make sure you are really good in science.

    Im in nursing school now and I’ll have my BSN next year but I would do this over CRNA. People say, “but you can have autonomy as a CRNA” and I’m like “I don’t want autonomy” 😂😂😂😂😂

      Just so you’re informed on your decision: CRNAs are also directed/supervised by physician anesthesiologists in some settings! Try shadowing and see what you think :)

    Do you work with Crna’s? What’s the difference between you and them?

    • @edwardherrera846
      @edwardherrera846 2 роки тому +1

      CRNAs are independent providers. AAs are dependent providers and always have to work under supervision of a doctor. CRNAs school graduate with a doctorate and take 3 years. AAs two years with a masters. CRNA you need to have a four year bachelors as a nurse, 1-3 years as a critical care nurse before school. AAs you can have a bachelors in anything you want including English major, art, underwater basking weaving etc. Also as an AA you need zero experience in health care. As you can tell there is a huge difference.

    • @mustang8206
      @mustang8206 2 роки тому +4

      @@edwardherrera846 Found the CRNA. First off working in the ICU as a nurse in way prepares you for independent practice and it certainly doesn't teach you how to administer anesthesia. Yes AAs can major in anything but they still have to take real science classes not the dumbed down versions they give to CRNAs. Most importantly CRNAs shouldn't have independent practice as they aren't nearly as qualified as Anesthesiologists

      @@mustang8206 found the AA. Have you worked in the ICU for 8 years as an ICU nurse? My guess is not. So don’t speak on how that prepares you for anything. I’m sure it prepares you a lot more than your bachelors in basket weaving before AA school. And I like how you AAs feel like your science classes are “real” and somehow CRNAs science classes are “fake”. Would love to hear your logic here. Because you take the same classes a premed student does doesn’t make you a physician counterpart. Just means you didn’t have what it takes to get through med school. You fell short. And I’m sorry you don’t agree with CRNAs having Independent practice. I realize it hurts being dependent on someone else. I work independently every day. If I and tens of thousands were not as qualified then how do we keep having jobs? Why are we the preferred provider? I can’t tell you how many people (nurses, techs, and especially surgeons) prefer to have CRNAs work with them. Enjoy your dependence. I’m sure one day you will be lobbying for independence.

    • @mustang8206
      @mustang8206 2 роки тому

      Um no. Don't let the title of assistant fool you. You are doing the same job as an anesthesiologist, a physician with 11 years of training. You aren't just helping the doctor you are taking your own patients and putting them in a medical coma

    • @CAALifestyle
      @CAALifestyle  2 роки тому +1

      the fastest way would possibly be to complete the pre-reqs as quickly as possible by taking on more classes in the summer/winter for example, while shadowing, taking the gre, getting patient care experience, etc.
