Just a slight correction. The English version did not chart here in the United States. It was the German version that made it to number two on the charts.
It is correct that the English version made it to number 1 in Great Britain, however.

Thank you so much for this video. I’m your Dutch neighbour and this song was a gigantic hit. It reached number one in the charts here as well as in Belgium. Today I wanted to look up the lyrics because the German I learned in school isn’t enough to translate it in a whim.
I grew up in the eighties and thank you for your explanation; the lyrics are as dark as the sentiment in those years was. The controversial nuclear weapons came here as well about halfway in the eighties; the constant shadow the threat of a third, nuclear World War cast over the youth of a teenage girl has still not been forgotten.

germany language is difficult to learn but I wanted to learn the lanauage since 1995 . I have tried very hard to go germany . when I get there after I spent 3000$ to smuglars ..... germany police catch me on border and guss what, they put me in preson and took my money and bought food for other persons . after that they put me in car and send me back to Czech Republic. I successed to inter germany in second attemped but i went to netherland . I always thought germany people are smart but they treet me stupidly and I thought germany people are rich but they robbed my money.

henk, get a grip! Everyone should sing, any time. There is not enough of it. Anna's singing is fun. It's not easy to sing in public and the slightest criticism can be very hurtful and shut someone up forever. Don't be like that - try it yourself, you'll find it is hard to do, you're sensitive, but it enlivens you AND other people around you.
