MABDR - Video #3, Sec.#1, Can an old grey haired grandmother do this?

In this video I make it to Damascus Virginia and get a motel room.
I rest up to be ready to start the Mid Atlantic Backcountry Discovery Route (MABDR). ❤️
Tillie (2023 Honda 300L Rally does good on the 400 mile trip here from Indiana.
My rib area is still hurting from an injury that happened the day before I left on this trip (see previous videos) I am trying to manage the pain with ibuprofen. 😭
I am not very good at planning my trips! I am a fly by the seat of your pants kinda Gal. 🤨
Sometimes that's good, sometimes not! 🫣
This is the first time for me riding a dual sport bike across part of the country and first time riding a Backcountry Discovery Route (BDR).
I thought I could figure it all out once I got here. 🤔
Things were about to get real!
I was getting nervous, what if I got lost up in the mountains. I am from Indiana after all.... very flat, no bears to eat you! What if I have bike problems, the bike is new so that didn't concern me a whole lot but was still in my mind, but a flat tire on a sharp rock was possible. I didn't have tools with me to fix a flat tire but did bring Slime tire repair gel. I don't know how well that stuff works but it made me feel better having it along. I had a few tools with me, a tire pump, and battery charger. Tillie was loaded down with camping gear and warm clothes.
It was the first of October but it was very warm. I later was glad to have all the warm clothes and gear.
I decided to purchase the Gaia app and hope that I could figure it out. It was harder than I thought it would be, so I had to ask for help.
Thank you to the owners of the Dancing Bear Hostel in Damascus, you saved my trip. The app worked very well and I got better at using it as I went along. I did also have a Garmin Inreach emergency beacon in case things went bad. 😨
Most of the people I know thought I was crazy doing this alone after all I am an old grey haired grandmother. 😊 I eventually agreed with them!
The first day was beautiful and I was enjoying every minute of it, even while in pain! ☹️
It was mostly paved roads with some nice gravel roads and a little bit of dirt tracks.
At first I passed a few cars and trucks but no motorcycles which surprised me. Then later on I was not seeing anyone for very long periods of time. These roads are state and county roads, it amazes me that roads like these still exist. But I am glad they do! I am so thankful for the people that created these BDR routes all their hard work is greatly appreciated! I will definitely be back to do this again and hopefully more BDR's.
