Everybody should experience an atmosphere like a good old country store atleast once in there life. It's good to see some of those stores making a come back and not getting replaced by a dollar store.
That wonderful owner of that store was fantastic. I so want to go there and shop and eat. Great show Shane and Melody. I will be looking at their website soon.
The old country stores take me back to a time when I was a kid growing up on a cattle farm. My dad would take me with him to the country store and I would get to pick out an ice-cold Sun Crest soda pop. What a treat! My favorite flavor was cream soda. My dad passed many years ago. Thank you for bringing back a very happy memory. God bless.
ahhhh.. its 1:40am and i see a new video uploaded and all cozy up in my bed. This store is something real special. And when the owner said he wanted the store to benefit the community and his dream was to always work at a country store made my heart all warm. Thank you so much for sharing this video I will definitely add it to my google maps favorites and definitely take a visit not this summer but the summer after as a nurse. It would be an honor to be a tourist from Ohio and see such an amazing store that sets a great example for the community and how stores should run. I always preferred private stores over major retailers. They got that true love and great vibes.
This is a great thing that someone has opened up a new, old school General Store in this time. It looks great inside there. So glad this gentleman and his wife decided to re-open the store after so many years having been closed. Most old General Stores that still exist and are in operation, have pretty much continuously done so since they first opened. I hope they can make a go of this place. So good to see someone do something like this today.
Enjoyed this! I love an old country general store! I loved hearing the cows moo when at the beginning of the video. The gathering around the heat from an old wood stove with friends, on a cold winters day is very comforting . Thanks for sharing...appreciate y'all always...God bless...🙏❤
So love those old country stores. We have a few remaining as they were, here in Maine. Thank you for that wonderful historical share and visit with the owner.
So many great memories here from the late 70s and early 80s. I'm looking forward to stopping by and adding a few bucks to help keep it going. Thanks, Mike, for making the investment in dollars and love. RT 700 FTW!
My wife and I ate lunch there Saturday and he (the store owner) told us that you two had been there earlier filming. The cheeseburgers were thick and delicious. The atmosphere was wonderful with the pot belly stove warming it up. Thanks for highlighting the people and places that make Appalachia my home sweet home! I can't wait to go back and try breakfast there.
Good to see the ol country store is still alive in 2023,hey melody i love that wollen cap with the black pom pom.too bad the stove was'nt the pot belly type.
You guys should open your own country store jage a sitting area around the old wood stove and jave a daily story time of old time stories and record live for your fans!!!
Wow, does that bring back memories of my youth. I love and look forward to your videos more and more everyday. They just tug at my nostalgic old heart lol. A big thank you as always. Be safe and God bless you both.🙏🙏
I 1966 we lived in area of North Florida (rural area at the time) that didn't have major stores. There was and still a same family run country store and butcher shop that let people have a running tab then on pay day pay their tab. We killed a hog and bull and for half the animal they would butcher it and package it. The meats they sell are what they butcher and frozen and fresh vegetable are from local farms. They have a strong customer support as their are major chain grocery stores by but they are still in business.
We ate lunch there yesterday! We had delicious old fashioned cheeseburgers with all the fixins! We can’t wait to go back for breakfast! The potbellied stove was so inviting!
love the video yall & the general store 🙂 I love going to em growing up we had one on the top of the hill about a half mile from the house I'd went all the time until I moved out of state it was not even half that size 🤣 then there was 3 in the lil town I I'd spend the summers also really small but I loved going in them too wish they were still operational today so my grandson could have the chance to go in some place I did at his age
Wow that is going back in time for sure got a blast from the past for sure, i was kind of expecting to see the Walton clan walk in, Tks for sharing very beautiful store & friendly owner
WOW, i wish them the best, it's a different time regarding what town folks can purchase elsewhere and people shop with their pocketbook as well as town loyalty. A Country store need to sell things at a price high enough to make a decent living and places like WM buy in bulk to get such a low price from vendors. 1908 is the year my Father was born, that was a LONG time ago. There is a small Country store right around the corner from my house in Quinwood and has a trim young lady working there, convenient for people not wanting to drive 30 mins to WM or 15-20 to a Dollar tree
@@realappalachia You know on RT 60 i see a few free-range cow farms so hopefully they can get some great prices on beef that is HEALTHY and hormone free then pass that on to local customers. While riding by there i was looking to see some signs about beef for sale, it's very close to Rupert.
Glad to see y'all healthier and sticking to your "eating healthier for the new year" guns!😏 Seriously, I've become my Dad in my old age. He always said the old ways would come back around to those who survive. A simple, wonderful country store supported by, and in business because of the local community. Scratching each other's backs. Exactly what made this country great in the first place. And I see the Big Boys (Walmart and others) struggling to keep anything on the shelves and closing stores. I wish no hardship on anybody, but I pray this trend continues. Really enjoyed this one!
It feels like the two of you are really experiencing a special kind of joy right now after having been through some pretty scary health episodes. The sun was out when you filmed this. Spring is on the way. There's a real "Wow-it's-good-to-be-alive!" atmosphere here and I love it. The breakfast looked delicious. And the combination of old-time treats (penny candy that might be dollar candy at this point) and modern day necessities (prilosec, batteries, fabric softener) is just what the community + tourism business calls for. I hope the general store is a huge success.
I think you’re on to something. I think we both have a greater appreciation of the small things in life after those episodes and just want to enjoy the good days when they come
So happy your video popped up on my You Tube! Haven't seen one of your videos in about a year. Hope all is well! What a wonderful general store and such a great story. Would love to take some time and get out of Cincinnati for a few days and travel down yonder.
That was great, and the owner was so nice to talk to y'all, and give you the history. Here in NJ, general stores have been closing for decades. Even way out in the boonies. I don't get it. There was one in a small town right here in Atlantic County that just closed in the last few years. But I can think of 3 that are open- one in Burlington County, one in Cumberland County, and one in Salem County. Actually, in Salem County, I just thought of a couple more. But anyway it's said to see them closed. So that's really cool that they just opened that one.
Southern folks crack me up when they talk about being cold! Lol. I love ya'll but come spend a winter in Chicago. It's an average of 20 degrees in the daytime and usually very low single digits at night. Then when it's 0 Temps and-35 the windch,, you can say it's cold! Lol. Ya'll wearing heated coats and hoodies.
@@realappalachia cold in August? Wow lol. It usually stays kinda cold up till around early April. But I can't remember it being cold in August. July August is normal our hottest months. I remember you mentioning you was in Chicago and did the tours to see the mobster stuff around the city.
@@oldguyBMX yeah it was some freakish weather event. I went to Wrigley Field to watch the White Sox and Cubs and wore a t shirt and shorts, was freezing

There’s something special about these old stores

Melody, you look adorable in your winter wear.
Thank you!
Oh, by the way. I ordered and received the Keecow socks and love them. I showed my two children yesterday and they will order some soon.
That’s so awesome, thank you!
Awesome store!! I'm a huge supporter of supporting local town stores! Glad to see Shane doing better post-surgery!! And Melody looks cute in glasses!
Thank you! Yes, we were happy to be able to spend some money to support them in a small way, such great people
"Little Melody" is even cuter with glasses.I did'nt think it was possible. I love the business woman look.Stay Safe.
