Just imagine if they gave him a chance as president in 1840 or 1844, sure slavery probably would have gone on longer but at the end of the day he would have prevented the Civil War had he been given a chance.

The problem with the American system wasn't industrialization. It was terriffs that stopped the south from trading to the more lucrative British to the north which gave them less money for their goods and gave the north more capital for western expansion

That's not a problem for America that was a problem for the South that was beholden to a backwards agrarian economy dependent on slave labor.
