  • Come shop with us while we restock our cold storage pantry! We prefer to keep a stock of canned goods and other shelf stable items, and it's time to restock!
We're working towards a one year food storage, and after this trip, we are close to six months for most items.
We still do a weekly shopping trip for fresh produce, dairy, deli, bread, and some meat.

When buying case lots at Walmart you don’t have to scan each individually can….just call the worker over and they’ll price ring it for you😉 this is something I learned.

Alice; I have never seen a cold storage like that. That would have been the reason I bought the house. You might be able to store a couple of years worth of food in that pantry. Your large family is Wonderful. It was nice of you to include the budget information. Many people aren't educated on keeping a budget. Merry Christmas to your Lovely Family.

We do not grow our own food. We have tried a couple times, but with our horrible soil and my black thumb it hasn't worked out. It has ended up being super expensive for getting very little out of the garden. Maybe someday.
We do occasionally make soups from scratch, and I often have ingredients on hand for it...but again, I am not very good at the soups and most of the time convenience trumps the cost.

I absolutely would never allow my children to climb around a grocery store or any store like that. It is disrespectful to the employees who work hard to stack, and to the other shoppers who should not have to deal with someone’s kids acting like this. I would be completely embarrassed.

I think many of us are fairly normal and kids are imperfect.
I appreciate your comment but in these times where the world locked our kiddos down, it sure is nice to see normal exploration and actions.
Of course, I grew up with 8 siblings and have 4 children and saw normal children behavior.
For the record, did you note how incredibly helpful the children were? Including the youngest to the oldest. My applause goes to this mom and her children.

My kids (2 boys, 1 girl) definitely climb on the large pallets in Costco/Sam’s, heck, even Home Depot. It’s not my favorite thing that they do, but they aren’t hurting any of the products. They think it’s a cool fort under there. The worst thing that happens is they dirty their clothes. Props to you for being able to shop with your children period. Some parent can’t do that. Life is too short to let Karen’s rule the world!

    • @evilvampireduck
      @evilvampireduck Рік тому +7

@@jengarza2877 It’s not about letting children be children, but the point of being a parent is teaching them when and where what behavior is proper.
The grocery store is not a jungle gym. So teach your children to not act like it is. *Especially* if it’s interfering with other shoppers- you can and *will* be asked to leave.
Those are grocery items other people are going to buy; they shouldn’t worry about if a shoe that’s been god knows where has stepped on the lid of their can.
Children are going to be children, but parents are meant to be parents. Do your job and parent your child.

We have tried!! Our soil here is terrible and with the amendments needed to grow anything it is actually more expensive. Plus, I have a terrible black thumb and can't seem to grow anything. 🤣 we spent $500 one year building grow boxes and trucking in expensive growing soil. I spent all summer working with the kids weeding and watering...for all our efforts we got a handful of tomatoes and one miserable looking pepper (with several pepper plants). Nothing else we tried to grow produced anything.
We will keep trying as I know it is healthier, but it is neither a consistent source of food for us, nor a cheaper option.
We did have fruit trees at our last house and we canned applesauce. We haven't planted new fruit trees yet, but when our neighbors have surplus and share, we have canned that.
