Mom of 12 - Day in the Life gone wrong! She missed the test! 🤦‍♀️

Today didn't go as planned, and it derailed my motivation. I used my camera to do some "body doubling", inspected my kids' rooms, rushed to school, but my daughter was turned away for being late to her ACT test. We did some homeschooling, had a dance party, played educational games, and did a quick basement cleanup. I even made beef broth from scratch, which was a novice move, but fun. Despite ...

    We have been looking at changing things up in the new year and I loved this video. It gave me a good bit of inspiration for how to do things a bit different with our 9 kiddos! I love the phases and how you have them easily laid out to understand. The biggest issue is keeping myself accountable for checking behind them and keeping them on track.

    I have kids in all stages - 7 kids aged 15 down to 1. This is one area I feel I have failed at staying consistent. I love your tips. We have a daily roster for morning and evening, plus a 4pm tidy, where everyone 5 and up have an area to tidy. I still do a lot of the work myself though and feel it’s a never ending battle. My kids need to understand the consequences for not completing their set jobs more. The morning jobs are often not done because kids are busy getting ready to leave for school. What are some of your consequences you give for poor time management and failure to do their responsibilities?

    • @frogleymom
      @frogleymom Рік тому

      I love the daily roster! Too often, the consequence for not doing the job is that Mom yells at them. 🤦‍♀️ I am working on that one. Some consequences have involved extra jobs or loss of privileges. Jacob and Joseph often do all their jobs because they really want to go play with friends, and they are not allowed to if their jobs haven't been done. That doesn't help get the jobs done on days their friends can't play, though. But we are a work in progress.

    • @frogleymom
      @frogleymom Рік тому

      One other thing, my Mom always insisted that we made our beds every single day. We each remember a time when we forgot, and she would come pick us up from school, take us home just to make the bed, and then drive us back to school. She wouldn't excuse the absence either if we missed something important. She claims she only did it once, but my 6 siblings and I seem to remember a time it happened to each of us. We all got pretty good at making sure the bed was made before leaving for school.

    • @HillsCo2006
      @HillsCo2006 Рік тому

      @@frogleymom wow! That’s commitment on your Mum’s behalf! I don’t think I’d have the confidence to do that lol I have left the job undone until after school where the child then has to do it properly. I need to be better at inspecting their work, and making sure they all know what is expected. Big example is the bathroom sink - one child each morning and afternoon has to tidy and wipe down bathroom sink, making sure it is tidy. I often walk in after they’ve left for school to see toothpaste still on the sink, hairbrushes left out, random things on bench. They claim it was done. Some kids just wipe around things, some just wipe the sink not bench, some put everything on window sill to clean bench but don’t put them back. I’m wondering if I take a photo of each area reset, print and laminate it, so they know what they are working towards. The joys of all the different ages and stages!

      There is a Hymn I love called "More Holiness Give Me."" One of my favorite lines from that Hymn (really every line could be a favorite) is: "More gratitude give me. More trust in the Lord." That is often my prayer... to have more gratitude in all the blessings I have and to trust His timing and plan.

    I love how real this was. Scream therapy, yes!! Is this something you guys do regularly and do you do it to music usually? My mom was big into that as a way to let up pent up or unexpressed emotions. Sorry your daughter missed the test, how stressful! My husband leaves for work at 6:40, but the rest of us sleep until 8 or 8:30. My 8yo daughter is usually awake first, but quietly reads in bed. I get up when I hear my almost 2yo wake up. We get up and I have coffee, the kids have breakfast. We do our personal Bible reading. We do our Morning getting ready routine and chores. My daughter does her independent school work and when I’m finished getting ready I fix my breakfast and they have snacks while I teach our Bible time. Usually that’s all done by 11. We get school finished around 12 and make lunch. It’s late for some, but works for us in this current season! In July we’ll have a new baby so I’m sure things will change again. 😊

    • @frogleymom
      @frogleymom Рік тому

      I love it! And yes, I found I always had to rework the schedules and routines with every baby.

  • @jerilyn-ourhomeschooltable

    Great system for your family! I love the bins. 👍🏻 I’m trying to figure out a new system because I feel like I’m always doing laundry. I’ve been doing the one load a day method, but inevitably I roll some over til the next day. So I’m thinking about trying the “laundry day” method for clothes. I have two children and a baby on the way, so not a ton of clothes. I have a basket for just towels and dish rags and one for each of our three rooms. We are one time use towel people, so I do a few loads of towels every week. 😏

  • @davidfrogley7117

    I really like that when I find a mess somewhere I can simply ask (because I never remember) whose zone it is and then get that child to clean up the mess because it's already his/her responsibility. The complaint is frequently something along the lines of "It was clean 10 minutes ago" or "I didn't make this mess", but they can't argue that it is their responsibility, and they do end up cleaning it. Eventually. Sometimes requiring us to stand in the room with them and prevent them from sneaking away.

    Would love to see a nighttime routine, not sure if you have a video on that. How do you get sleep. I have 5 kids, my youngest is 20 months she still nurses and co sleeps, she has yet to sleep through the night and getting her to bed each night is hard. Needless to say not getting a good night sleep is making my days so hard! You have such a lovely family! I will get it together soon I hope 🤣

    • @frogleymom
      @frogleymom Рік тому

      Thank you! I do not have a nighttime routine video yet. I will need to make sure to add that to the list. Sleep is super tricky. I also breastfeed and co-sleep, and I have crazy insomnia when pregnant. So, I haven't really gotten good, consistent sleep for over 18 years now. My biggest tip for now is to put the kids to bed early (We start around 7pm if we can), and then go to bed when they do. Many nights I am in my bed by 8:30pm. I never fall asleep before 10pm, and usually stay up much later working on other things...but I do all of that from my bed. I find it helpful to wind down my day. I also found that my kids were even harder to put to bed if they knew I was going back downstairs to work on other things. That probably doesn't help. 😆
