Admittedly, it’s never made sense to me how you can drain more than the enemy’s health as a death. This combined with the fact that they have basically every utility in existence makes them extremely busted in every respect.
I think it should come down to two things. Total damage and remaining health damage. Total damage would just be a THIS IS HOW MUCH DAMAGE IT DID number and remaining health damage would be the "killing hit" damage. Death should heal based off of the "killing blow" damage. If an enemy has 8k health and you do 10k damage; then you should heal 4k (half of the total killing damage dealt). If an enemy has 8k health total; 2k health remaining, and you deal 10k damage; you should only heal 1k. Hell, I might even argue to nerf the heal% on aoe heal spells. I think you should only heal a quarter% hp from Scarecrow and such.
Death is definitely broken and a lot of its utility goes outside of its school identity. Looking at the main important stats in wiz and where Death ranks: Damage: 3rd of 7 after fire and storm Support: 2nd of 7 after balance Healing: 3rd of 7 after life and balance Survivability: 1st of 7 This is undeniably broken, and if any school is going to be a jack of all trades it should be balance not death.
True, at least they can’t team heal with as much healing or utility healing spells. But they can get close and that makes them too good in too many roles.
was thinking the same thing, they have more universal traps. they may not have as many universal blades where they can buff the entire team, but in the current meta buffing the hitter is the main goal and with a sharpen on sacrifice they basically match balance, they have a heal like balance, they have way more debuffs than balance easily allowing them to way better mitigate damage. overall they have a little of everything when it comes to utility that they out do balance.
@Michael Daley I completely disagree that death is better than balance. You dont need blades for entire team? The last boss of lemuria would say otherwise. What can death do besides dark pact? Which balance can do much more simply with one 0 pip blade and take no damage. I've seen many deaths die to a dark pact lol. And the debuffs? You'd be wrong to debuff in pve. Pve is about killing fast. Your wasting time if your debuffing. Only on very rare occasions would you ever need to juju and that's what tcs are for. And balance does still have weakness. You could literally never weakness and be fine. But you always need blades. And hold up cuz I'm not done. Donate power. It can literally save you entire rounds. Your hitter can now scion on round 3, followed by a 7 pip on round 5. I've done that to 5 round omen every single time. With a death that would take 8 rounds.
death is a jack of all trades, balance is a jack of all supports, i think the biggest problem is that death has juju and plague and balance has nothing similar, so if you want to focus on balance you need to give them something to compete

Their utilities closely rivaling that of balance is just the cherry on top. And the best part is, death gets all that WITHOUT even sacrificing their effectiveness at soloing. Some people would be smashing their screens trying to solo a double boss fight in Azteca, but you don't have that problem with death wizards.
I agree that death should have some kind of nerf and reducing the heal back is a fair way to do it. If I could make more changes, I'd also change the fact that death has both the best and second best damage reduction spells of any school (bad juju and virulent plague) by giving a new damage reduction spell to ice or life Right now Death does Balence's role better than Balance and does Ice's role better than Ice (95% of the time) which takes something away from those classes even if you don't care about being as optimized as possible
Death and Fire are my top 2 schools since I was a kid. I'm leaning more toward death lately for that versatility and power in all aspects of the game. The drain spells are just so fun, and make soloing super easy. I'm always a fan of draining and doing damage while also staying healthy, and outlasting your opponents is very strong and satisfying. I'll also say that from a story perspective, it's really interesting to play from a death studen'ts perspective, taking on the old death professor and all of the thoughts that come with it.
Yo Noah I would love to see you do another wizard101 lets play walkthrough with a brand new life wizard. Maybe just the first arc if you didnt want to fully commit to the whole game but id love to see it and it could be a very cool series
In my opinion, Death doesn't do that much damage. They do as much as balance and their heal backs offset that loss of damage to be on the same level as fire, storm and myth. In short, their lower damage balances out that they have heal backs
I think heal backs should be closer to their old damage but enchants should still work like every other school and perhaps up the damage taken to self on things like juju.
The thing about death is while i agree with you on the damage being equal to balance its their survivability that makes it better. Yea your not going to do a lot of damage until late game but you at least get health back from almost every spell allowing you to survive longer than a school like ice
My experience from maxing my death wizard (also my first wiz) is that its a strong school, especially solo. I think that part is good because you can get through stuff on your own fairly easily (especially if you have no friends). But I think other schools can be easy to solo on as well because their utility is different. The drain spells do make for a smooth experience with hp, but most of the time its just nice to not need wisps after a battle. I played where I setup a big hit on the bosses, very rarely needing to use a plague or use multiple hits because I could feint twice and hit. The base damage is lower on all the spells so you may need to wait another round to hit but now that I am working on my storm, I can spend 1-2 turns less being able to kill something. I wish we had more fun spells that were hit all but not a drain so I might play more supportively, but the game is also easy enough not to. In boss fights, its easy enough in a team to feint twice and the hitter hits. I still haven't trained juju and I just about never plague or reduce enemy healing. Other schools also have interesting mechanics that I think could also be really strong, but they just are not noticed with how easy the game can feel. Storm can stun enemies and do damage, but usually you one-shot them or the enemy is stun resistant so its not noticed. Or accuracy is reduced but that doesn't matter if you can kill them within 2-4 turns. Ice/Life can heal and absorb damage which can be helpful, but still isn't always needed. Its easy enough to finish fights fast enough to not even need school identity in most fights, nor should fights require a certain school because that makes solo a pain if no one is in teamup. I don't think death is OP because compared to other schools, its still a similar enough questing experience with the difficulty of the game imo.
I don't think death is broken because I do pvp and it is barely usable school and the other thing is I think they need to do a slight damage buff to call of Cthulhu. I also started with this school so I maybe a little biased but my friend that plays with me agrees with me .
Balance and Death spells really needed those buffs I remember Scarecrow used to be weaker and Sandstorm and Nova got buffed which I love RA Also changed but I prefer Nova
I really don't think it should be nerfed just because A: I really don't think its insanely broken and B: most all the nerfs you suggested would put it at a massive disadvantage in pvp besides the enchant one since you can't use damage enchants in pvp anymore
Honestly I kinda agree. Balance can be a big hitter, especially with spells such as judgement, spectral blast or nested fury. Balance can play support, basically the best support school without any doubt. Balance can play tank, cause their gear is more of a tank than life or Death or exemple.

HOWEVER, they're masters of none, meaning yes, they got utility, but they'll never be as good at any ONE thing as another school. The reason I don't play my death is, it's mad easy. *Although I don't think they should change it at this point...though 50% to 25% would be the most logical nerf. I think they need to start making bosses that accounts for Deaths, more directly.
I think 30% is better than 25% but I agree they need a nerf. I think scarecrow should be nerfed too, if they're going to keep the enchant buff on death. Scarecrow should do Wraith damage, not even more than that.
25% is basically gutting death there’s already no enchants in pvp and drain hits have a lower damage per pip than raw no drain death hits, honestly pve isn’t even that big of a gripe I don’t get why people gripe either because ofc your gonna get back to full if you blade a million times I think other schools need a survivability buff that doesn’t require master.
Death was my very first school I ever choose when I started wizard101 its my roots to the gave I have the most love for death school and it holds such a fond place in my heart. Shout out to all my fellow death wizards
Death is my favorite school and I’m currently working on it in Mirage I got a great pet which is the ghulture since it gives a feint and blade and I got good damage from it. My friend is also on his myth wizard so we are questing together
You can make videos about the other schools but you can make them more memey to make it more interesting or just about the experience of questing and pvp as those schools.
i do agree with you so much because when they get to be too powerful some people get a sense of entitlement of always being the hitter id like to see them nerf some of the spells in all schools to make a more balanced game play and also to where people dont feel intimidated by someone who will come in and just kill and people are saying why even try
As a Death main i do have to agree. Ive out supported a balance as i carry elemental blades along with dark pact and feints. Ive outlived ice wizards and in many fights im the last one standing while people flee and comeback. And in some rare cases ive out damaged a fire. The only thing death really cant do well is heal others without a life mastery. And soloing is the easiest as a death ive soloed about 95% of the game with the exception of darkmoor and big dungeons alike. Death is better at utilizing feints than any other school due to having mass feint. I dont think death needs a huge nerf but i dont think it should be a better support class than balance
i would love to see an ice video at some point. playing through ice rn, i feel like there is a lot of potential in it and that it requires a different playstyle than a lot of other schools
Altho death is the most versatile, it isn’t the best anything in team play. It can do everything, but if there’s a storm/fire/myth they’ll likely be hitting instead, if there’s a life or balance around they’ll be buffing and healing….etc. I’d def agree it’s the best solo class no doubt, but that’s not as great as it sounds really. You aren’t gonna solo much end game gear farming content, at least not to be efficient. The debuff spells are cool and that’s their schools utility identity, thematically it makes sense. Altho there’s def an argument that it’s the best PvE school, there’s also plenty of valid reasons for someone to pick something else. I’m an ice main btw, so it’s not as if I’m trying to protect my main, I just thought it would be a good idea to bring up some counter points. I have a level 90 death and often scarecrow is just as much if not a better and more reliable option then ship of fools, it’s really annoying how often it won’t crit one of the mobs, and the battle takes even longer then if I just bladed and used scarecrow. I’d imagine this is even more so the case once you start with 5 pips, altho maybe the higher damage and crit from darkmoor gear and beyond makes it more reliable. I also have the weakest tier but realistically, how many people have it maxed out? At max damage it’s only 30 more flat damage then the front hit of dear knight. I have around 116 damage on my death rn btw. Don’t get me wrong I’d say it’s a good defensive option for sure especially to kill a boss minion and set up for the next thing. Yet I don’t think it’s so OP that there’s no reason to use other spells. Especially since w/ 5 pip start dear knight is gonna hit a lot harder. So all in all I’d say it’s the most convenient school of magic, but I don’t think it’s so OP that it requires a potent nerf really. At most perhaps infections could effect the heal back.

as a death main, I must say the game is in easy mode. I soloed 99% of the game with no problem and the big boss fights I just filled whatever the team needed. Death is so easy to play because you almost always start every fight at max hp from drains
Overpowered is mostly used to refer to the schools that dominate pvp like fire. Getting drains in pve isn't why people complain that a school is overpowered. If you get a drain good for you I guess? But if you use roshambo to put 2 overtimes on me and then x2 dmg jinn that's just broken.
Just buff other schools and buff the enemies too. Sure that's a lot of work but would be better overall. I'm sure they'll just put a bandaid on it someday and not really fix anything
Death 100% does not need a nerf cause in the long run you simply will not be that efficient with roles such as blading, supporting, hitting etc. What makes death good is simply just the heal back but thats not gonna help jack in team play let alone the low damage it does either when compared to fire or myth, death is what I call the last pick option for team play or bottom of the barrel "jack of all trades" you simply cannot think death is overpowered besides it being made in the one role it was made for (solo play) but let me tell you this, its ASS in endgame dungeons cause everyone can simply just be better then death on certain terms. therefore the only thing making death viable is simply just scarecrow and lulu and if the heal backs get gutted then death will be nearly unplayable cause of the damage it offers in the long run making your heals get like 120 on anything early game if lucky.
Did you watch the video? Or better yet play the game? Death is an incredibly powerful support school arguably only beaten out by Balance. In team play a death can be super useful. They can also play healer or damage if they need to. You must have never played death.

I respect your opinion as a fan, but imho I don't see the death school as overpowered. I've always seen either storm or balance to be overpowered for pve. People are sleeping on the amounts of damage and healing balance is able to put out. People are saying death is a better balance? Like what? death still can't put out as much damage even when they run high damage gear as high damage balance gear. Especially since every school can learn feint and also just use tc versions of dark pact. I also don't see the 50% drain as broken because with my death, I have to use all of my feints and blades to get a ridiculous heal back amount, but it's to be expected when I'm literally using everything I have for it to be a ridiculous heal back amount.
25% heal back seems perfectly reasonable to me that is a great idea. After watching ferric do his budget walkthrough on death in the past it makes you realize how broken it is.
I think death would be balanced if devs nerfed the heal-back to 30-35% for single hit spells and 15-20% on AOEs. But yeah, as of right now death is dummy easy and I'd argue it has the most braindead playstyle of all the school once you get Ship of fools. Even more braindead than storm with Tempest spam.
@@ogreload1445 they do the second most damage since they are an offensive school. They have the strongest DOT since they are the DOT school. Their health and defence is less than other schools but greater than storm because that's how their stats are supposed to be.

Hey Noah, I love your videos but I wanted to warn you against advising people to spend crowns on a pack to get a specific item. I know you are against ship of fools only being in packs and if you convince more people to buy packs that have exclusive items and spells in them then KI has more of an incentive to keep making those.

Fun fact btw, if you manage to get 2 million damage with a death heal back spell, the 1 million health give back also gives you elixar vitae.

I think 30% is better than 25% but I agree they need a nerf. I think scarecrow should be nerfed too, if they're going to keep the enchant buff on death. Scarecrow should do Wraith damage, not even more than that.

25% is basically gutting death there’s already no enchants in pvp and drain hits have a lower damage per pip than raw no drain death hits, honestly pve isn’t even that big of a gripe I don’t get why people gripe either because ofc your gonna get back to full if you blade a million times I think other schools need a survivability buff that doesn’t require master.
Death was my very first school I ever choose when I started wizard101 its my roots to the gave I have the most love for death school and it holds such a fond place in my heart. Shout out to all my fellow death wizards

Death is my favorite school and I’m currently working on it in Mirage I got a great pet which is the ghulture since it gives a feint and blade and I got good damage from it. My friend is also on his myth wizard so we are questing together
You can make videos about the other schools but you can make them more memey to make it more interesting or just about the experience of questing and pvp as those schools.
i do agree with you so much because when they get to be too powerful some people get a sense of entitlement of always being the hitter id like to see them nerf some of the spells in all schools to make a more balanced game play and also to where people dont feel intimidated by someone who will come in and just kill and people are saying why even try
My death just hit 2 million damage at level 118 yesterday so its great to get the badge for 1 million.
As a Death main i do have to agree. Ive out supported a balance as i carry elemental blades along with dark pact and feints. Ive outlived ice wizards and in many fights im the last one standing while people flee and comeback. And in some rare cases ive out damaged a fire. The only thing death really cant do well is heal others without a life mastery. And soloing is the easiest as a death ive soloed about 95% of the game with the exception of darkmoor and big dungeons alike. Death is better at utilizing feints than any other school due to having mass feint. I dont think death needs a huge nerf but i dont think it should be a better support class than balance
i would love to see an ice video at some point. playing through ice rn, i feel like there is a lot of potential in it and that it requires a different playstyle than a lot of other schools

Altho death is the most versatile, it isn’t the best anything in team play. It can do everything, but if there’s a storm/fire/myth they’ll likely be hitting instead, if there’s a life or balance around they’ll be buffing and healing….etc. I’d def agree it’s the best solo class no doubt, but that’s not as great as it sounds really. You aren’t gonna solo much end game gear farming content, at least not to be efficient. The debuff spells are cool and that’s their schools utility identity, thematically it makes sense. Altho there’s def an argument that it’s the best PvE school, there’s also plenty of valid reasons for someone to pick something else. I’m an ice main btw, so it’s not as if I’m trying to protect my main, I just thought it would be a good idea to bring up some counter points. I have a level 90 death and often scarecrow is just as much if not a better and more reliable option then ship of fools, it’s really annoying how often it won’t crit one of the mobs, and the battle takes even longer then if I just bladed and used scarecrow. I’d imagine this is even more so the case once you start with 5 pips, altho maybe the higher damage and crit from darkmoor gear and beyond makes it more reliable. I also have the weakest tier but realistically, how many people have it maxed out? At max damage it’s only 30 more flat damage then the front hit of dear knight. I have around 116 damage on my death rn btw. Don’t get me wrong I’d say it’s a good defensive option for sure especially to kill a boss minion and set up for the next thing. Yet I don’t think it’s so OP that there’s no reason to use other spells. Especially since w/ 5 pip start dear knight is gonna hit a lot harder. So all in all I’d say it’s the most convenient school of magic, but I don’t think it’s so OP that it requires a potent nerf really. At most perhaps infections could effect the heal back.

@@ogreload1445 fair, but they still can do everything. They have 4th highest damage, access to cards like juju that can be very useful in bossfights, have access to gear that gives good damage and good defensive stats, you can just kinda be whatever your team needs. Even if others do it better.

as a death main, I must say the game is in easy mode. I soloed 99% of the game with no problem and the big boss fights I just filled whatever the team needed. Death is so easy to play because you almost always start every fight at max hp from drains
And on the mass feint hat literally all schools can do that if duo questing but death still is a good school no doubt
As I mentioned, it’s good because the hat will give you stars that effect your school when you’re a death.

Overpowered is mostly used to refer to the schools that dominate pvp like fire. Getting drains in pve isn't why people complain that a school is overpowered. If you get a drain good for you I guess? But if you use roshambo to put 2 overtimes on me and then x2 dmg jinn that's just broken.

Death 100% does not need a nerf cause in the long run you simply will not be that efficient with roles such as blading, supporting, hitting etc. What makes death good is simply just the heal back but thats not gonna help jack in team play let alone the low damage it does either when compared to fire or myth, death is what I call the last pick option for team play or bottom of the barrel "jack of all trades" you simply cannot think death is overpowered besides it being made in the one role it was made for (solo play) but let me tell you this, its ASS in endgame dungeons cause everyone can simply just be better then death on certain terms. therefore the only thing making death viable is simply just scarecrow and lulu and if the heal backs get gutted then death will be nearly unplayable cause of the damage it offers in the long run making your heals get like 120 on anything early game if lucky.
Did you watch the video? Or better yet play the game? Death is an incredibly powerful support school arguably only beaten out by Balance. In team play a death can be super useful. They can also play healer or damage if they need to. You must have never played death.

I respect your opinion as a fan, but imho I don't see the death school as overpowered. I've always seen either storm or balance to be overpowered for pve. People are sleeping on the amounts of damage and healing balance is able to put out. People are saying death is a better balance? Like what? death still can't put out as much damage even when they run high damage gear as high damage balance gear. Especially since every school can learn feint and also just use tc versions of dark pact. I also don't see the 50% drain as broken because with my death, I have to use all of my feints and blades to get a ridiculous heal back amount, but it's to be expected when I'm literally using everything I have for it to be a ridiculous heal back amount.

25% heal back seems perfectly reasonable to me that is a great idea. After watching ferric do his budget walkthrough on death in the past it makes you realize how broken it is.
I think death would be balanced if devs nerfed the heal-back to 30-35% for single hit spells and 15-20% on AOEs. But yeah, as of right now death is dummy easy and I'd argue it has the most braindead playstyle of all the school once you get Ship of fools. Even more braindead than storm with Tempest spam.

Hey Noah, I love your videos but I wanted to warn you against advising people to spend crowns on a pack to get a specific item. I know you are against ship of fools only being in packs and if you convince more people to buy packs that have exclusive items and spells in them then KI has more of an incentive to keep making those.
What I say has absolutely no value to KI and their pack policy, and their pack policy isn't going to change anytime soon. If I have a helpful tip to my audience, I'm going to share it, not just ignore it.
