To anyone who found this video out of frustrations over R600 repairs... These new compressors have everyone in the industry thinging they need all new tools, new protocols, new hoses... you dont. 1. The Lokring tool is awful. Terrible product and the connections arent near as reliable as brazed joints. Dont let them scare you into thinking you can't solder. 2. R600, unlike R134, is butane based which is a very dry (and yes flameable, stay with me) refrigerant that runs through a compressor with mineral oil. Mineral oil is very very sensitive to temperature changes. Its smartest to replace the entire compressor in a sealed system leak because it barely lubricates itself as it is and is super sensitive to air. Air in the system will cause a floating restriction and ruin the windings SO fast. Use copper cutters to remove the old compressor, solder in the new one. No burns / housefires. Not dangerous. 3. Don't buy all new tools. Seriously save your money. Learn your hoses and the capacity when using R600. Charge by your pressures and dont let air in the system (again these compressors are sensitive). Buy a 20 dollar T valve on Amazon, purge your lines, and TAKE YOUR TIME. You cant whiz through these like you could R134.
I agree. I don’t know why, but every repair tech training session I’ve ever been to or taught has at least one guy that cant keep a lid on it, adding the most pointless comments and jokes at inappropriate times. At least the trainer here has patience.
Good info. I’m about to use that same tools to do R600A. The trainer I had connect the vacuum hose on the T and vacuum from both sides that was the only difference.

I think its funny how people are so afraid of a tiny amount of pantane. I once dropped and shattered a completely full glass 4L bottle of liquid pentane in my basement when removing it from the freezer. Pentane has a boiling point of 96.7 degrees fahrenheit and is as flammable as butane but it is quite hard to ignite as vapor in the air above 35% humidity. The amounts being worked with in refrigerators is so small that it would likely not be ultra dangerous. Biggest risk would be shapnel from an explosion of a compressed cylinder or a filling cylinder. I've worked with barrels of pentane as well in sub optimal conditions. Just be careful and be safe so you dont have to be afraid.
worst shit i have seen, whirlpool had several trainings for us but the tolerances for the lokring fittings are way off, i have more than 10 attempts at the lokring repair and have yet to complete a single repair, you need low loss fittings when dealing with r600 and all of lokrings stuff is expensive
Same situation with us. Have actually worked on 10/15 r600 units basically learning as you go. Man i can’t stand these classes where your grouped with people that can’t shut up and take this guys time seriously.
Hello! Cyclopentane is the gas inside the insulation polyurethane bubbles to up the U value.. Refrigerant is isobutane (The label R600a tells it's isobutane. It's way more common compared to R600 which is butane..and i believe the video title is just missing the 'a') ..it's true that it's not worth the money on the demo model on the vid, but the small demo model is convenient to train on and haul around to provide the training. When You have a real, more expensive model, maybe from midrange model to high end, it'll become worthwhile and way more sustainable for the owners wallet and for the environment..which we are losing on accelerating level.
The only thing I see wrong it has shraeder valve's on the unit is not allowed by law at least in Calif. no open flames sign's no fire extinguisher on hand
@@Sc-db6lv yeah but at least the pressures are almost the same and they work better i try fixing 5 freezers last week and the compressor would get hot really quick i got the freon from mex and it was just a waist a money so what i did i changue the compressor and behold there working
They are made by Vulkan Lokring. The hoses are smaller in diameter and also much shorter than standard service hoses. Keep in mind the R600a charge is close to 1/3 or 1/2 of what a R134a charge is. If you use standard hoses most of the R600a will be in the hoses and manifold causing system diagnostic issues.

Thank you for this comment, which is way better than this video.
Next time, tell to those technicians that shut up and let you explain the procedure.

This would be a great video if the teacher were by himself.
What's the best r600 kit?
I'm just beginning to absorb the enormity of the R600a option. Everything seems likely to shift very quickly in the hvac universe.
I feel bad for the instructor. The techs are a little burnt
Thanks Mike for sharing. 👏

Pentane is used in refrigerator insulation, completely different than the sealed system refrigerant R600a they are training on in video
It confusing whats gong on there
And for that they pay a whopping 300.00 labor,minus 6 lokring couplers @ 14.00 x6 and a 30.00 dryer that providing you don't have a leak
I work for an appliance repair company. We refrigeration technicians have received absolutely no training on r600 repairs. Go blue crew😰

Can you please tell me how much the pressure of low side and high side? thank you...
I will like this answer also
Is it 10 psi on lowside and 70psi on the highside
Standard refrig with freezer runs approx -11 inHG on low side and 43 to 87 psi on high side.
Recently I tried to reprocess a domestic refrigerator with r600. The low side pressure is -1hg and it was working well.
Wow nice !
Question here. Does the R600a gas by liquid or gas
Gas. Gas liquefy under the high pressure
How do we get in contact with you for a class?
www.appliancebootcamp.com
Costs more to repair than buy a new one .
Not true whatsoever, pentane is cheap.

Depends on the model. 😊

How much the equipment price?
~$1200
Its better to change the compressor from an old unit and fixing it thats what i did last week with 5 frezeers
i braze everthing

so many process and talking on a very small fridge.
