- This is how I added R600a refrigerant in my LG refrigerator. It was a new refrigerator that just stopped working. The fridge worked but the freezer stopped working. After I added the refrigerant to the freezer. It started working.
FYI - Did you notice the crystaline build up on the condensor steel line brazed to the copper compressor line. You will find if you look at the condensor steel line brazed to the copper capillary tube line has the same cyrstaline build up at its joint as well. This is the R600a boiling out through pin hole leaks in the brazing. What ever brazing material LG used in manufacturing to mate these two different lines together is leaking the R600a out at these these joints. This will have to be corrected before the leaking of refrigerant problem is fixed for good. That is why a Type 1 or higher 608 certified tech ought to be repairing this and LG ought to be ashamed of themselves for approving this repair. Also, piercing valves should never be expected to be a permanent installation. These are meant to be temporary and are only for refrigerant recovery before opening the system. The joints can then be rebrazrd for a steel to copper compatible weld and a permanent service valve installed in the line for recharging after repairs. If you look at all the copper to copper line brazed joints none of them are leaking. LG has a bad quality control issue here. I know, I just had to repair my LG after 8 months time with the same type of joint leaks, but I am 608 Type 1 certified.

So many wrong things in this video, I'm sorry for the negativity, but I can't abide and see lots of people failing because of the bad information, first, if it is low on refrigerant, it's because of a leak, need to find the leak and repair it, then, whenever there is a leak, we need to replace the compressor, drier and the leaking component, the reason for this is, because of the leak, the sealed system is also suctioning condensables (air) and it will make the compressor's oil acidic and it will break the compressor sooner than later.
Notoce the corrosion (green) around that joint on the comoressor.
Happens a lot with R600a (isobutane) systems for some reason. Any ideas why?
The Home Depot guy says LG is habing lawsuit problems from that but I don't know if it ia from a leak on that same joint. They fix it and it fails again in 6 months he said.
Is there a reason it fails at that spot? Is the refrigerant moist or contaminated? Is it vibration and a lavk of flux or a chemical reaction with the flux or ?????
Not the compressor but the oil of the compressor replace the compressor if it has leak back pressure or burned out windings
If refrigerant leaked out, it did so because there is a leak in the system. Therefore, if the hole is not located and repaired, the repair is incomplete. As a professional, I can tell you the methods and tools used here are neither appropriate or safe for this kind of job.

As a technician who works on LG’s and Kenmore 795’s (also an LG), once you tap into it, you just null and voided your system warranty. When I walk in to your kitchen and see that, we’re done. No one can tap into the low side and tell you what an LG is doing. Both side have to be tapped into.
The LG compressor has a bad rap and I’m not saying that they don’t have problems but most of the time it has a leak in the evaporator and depending on how old, a leak in the condenser. When it springs a leak, the older compressors will run themselves to death and make a tech think it’s only the compressor. The newer machines will just cruise along to try to save the compressor.
Old school techs should probably just forget about what they’ve learned about systems when they face an LG. Is it a bad compressor, a leak, or is it a restriction? There’s a chance that it’s all three. When you have an LG go down, call LG. When you have a Kenmore 795 go down, call Sears.
Yeah, I worked on one that had possibly all 3 issues. 25 hours into it and had to walk away. Thing chewed up 2 of my vacuum pumps. I have to figure them out, but like you said, they are not the same as traditional.
If its an LG (or Kenmore\lg, Samsung) I asked the caller to text me a photo of the data tag to see if the fridge uses r600a or r134a. I explain to the caller that if the fridge has mechanical problems I can repair it (if parts are available), if it has a seal system problems and uses r600a and is still under warranty contact the manufacturer or purchase a new fridge because the fridge is going to turn into a money pit.
What's Sad, they give customers the run around.. make them wait months.. for a service tech..
There is a 10 year warranty on the Compressors ( part only... basically Crap they made) but no warranty for service and charging.
R600 requires special, safe connections.
Do not buy LG. Period..
And Fight your Ass off until you get your money back.. it may take a year.

@@curtisjones9157 I worked on a lot of LGs for LG. I was doing four systems a day and a couple ice makers, but then one day, the calls stopped coming. LG had a mad hiring surge, (taking a couple of our techs too) and stopped sending us work. Now, I tell the customer that I can do it right then and there, but they’ll have to pay because I can’t do warranty work for LG. Now the only LG calls that I get are out in the middle of nowhere because LGs guy doesn’t want to run them.

I have a double-door Hisense and a Side-by-side Haier both failed within a 1.5 yrs
Steared clear of buying Samsung and LG bcoz they are an inferior build.
There metal bodies are wafer thin.
The local scrap yard is full of these fridges.
Replacement Inverter compressors are nowhere to be found.
The scrap dealers have tons of failed LG compressors.
Meanwhile the co. Is busy putting a new tv on the door.

Same problem after 2 years. This is my second LG and they are terrible. I added some R600a like yours and waiting to see if it works.
Update: Adding freon is the last thing you wanted to do after other troubleshooting. Added around near 2 or and it's iced cold now. Just don't buy LG ever again.
As you can clearly see on the warning label at 00:15 in the video, piercing valves are not safe for this application. You should be using a lokring type of connection to add in a service valve.

lokring is garbage... for the cheap price of this r600a there is no reason for specialty tools that are never needed unless your company likes wasting money!
The compressor is a FLE compressor. Adding refrigerant will not solve the issue. The compressor will need to be replaced and software on main pcb will need to be updated using Lg service jig.

That unit will typically run in a vacuum with R600A. The leaks probably in the evaporator.
What negative psi is normal for the low side?
@@brettbsmith The low side will run anywhere between 10-15 inches of vacuum. High side will run between 45 and 50 psi. Static is anywhere between 11-20 psi depending on the temperature of the evaporators. You really can’t tell what an LG system is doing unless you tap into both sides.

We have in 1975 Sears Kenmore frost rest upright freezer I just looked at the temperature and it’s two below zero not a flaw I’m sorry one problem the lightbulb went out that’s it and it runs on our 22 46 years old runs like a champ we got a new fridge which runs on 600 refrigerant butane stopped cooling after two years luckily it was under warranty what happens when the warranty is finished I’m screwed all junk today 46 years old and it did not leak out still running on the same R 22For 46 years
Fact...the older the appliance is the better made it is....refrigerator failures today are too common due to made in china crap and even the made in usa is far less quality but its all due to china forcing usa compsnies to cut costs using crap msterisls and designs...i would prefer a 1970s fridge over a 2021 fridge for sure...ive got a 1970s monky ward freezer still works like new... most refrigerators tiday are made to fail within few years...appliances made in the 60s 70s 80s and even 90s were made to last. LG is probably to most failure prone brand....in theory a good properly manufactured refrigerstor (most pre year 2000 models) should never have to be recharged. Or should at least last several decades not less than 5years like most junk made today....
The system most likely has a leak. Leaks do not fix themselves. This guy will be adding 600a for the rest of his life. Piercing valves are junk and also leak. DO NOT DO WHAT THIS GUY IS DOING. I am a refrigeration technician, and have been for almost 30 years. This guy is doing everything wrong. Call a real technician.
Just adding gas and you over charge it you voided the mfg warranty. R600 has to be weight in The gas runs in a vacuum.

LOL, wrong way to even temporarily repair this! I am an LG factory authorized repair company owner. You have a leak somewhere, that must be fixed and further R600a will leak from that new fitting he just installed - so now you have an additional leak! If you really want to repair this, you will need to #1. find the leak. #2. repair the leak. #3. replace the compressor, filter / drier. #4. Vacuum system. #4 factory charge to sticker grams r600a. this requires leak detection equipment, brazing equipment, vacuum pump, grams charging scale and various expendables. You certainly CAN learn to do it correctly, but you will need to at least borrow all of the required tools and equipment. If you don't replace the compressor, the acid developed from the leaks will eat the copper winding insulation and self-destruct soon. You can do what's in this video and fill it once every couple weeks though until you are filling it daily with refrigerant. In the mean time you are most likely overfilling and burdening the compressor pushing it quicker to it's grave. Once dead, then you can try the correct way.

That is too much work, even though it may be the correct way to do it. The service charge must be close to the cost of just buying a new refrigerator.

So it worked for me until just a day or so ago. Now it has an error code on it. Some thing to do with low refrigerant. It must have a small leak in the system. I'll probably have to purchase a new fridge. :(
Yes...refrigerators are a sealed system..in theory should never need filling...if u need to fill then that means there is a leak. Adding refrigerant is a short term fix...depending on leak could last 1 day or 1 year.

R600 should be charged as a liquid on the high side not the low side you’ll ruin the system plus you added that valve on the wrong line that’s the suction line known as evaporator line that should be tapped into low side of compressor on the left side
A very helpful tip to extend the life of the compressor is to add 50ml of sulphuric acid to the compressor before regassing. This reduces corrosion

Ive got a r134a screw in can tap with hose...do anybody know if it will connect to a r600a can?
probably not. I had a r134a fitting and it wouldn't fit the r600a can. That's why I ended up using the one that pierces the can.
Depends on the can. The resealing cans of r600 work with the 134a fill tube. the puncture type need a different tap
