I would have cried if there was a scene where Crispin & Basilio (wether the adult version and kid version, doesn't matter) is shown to really be worried about Alexandria and call her 'Ate' instead of 'bossing'. Like, DUDE I WANT THAT TO HAPPEN OH MY GOD
@@overthinker9616 Ate is an honorific used for girls older than the one talking as a sign of respect. It's used for older sisters/older female cousins but also for any girl older than you. I liked your points about acting vs voice acting, there is a great distinction between the two. If you said she did ok with the Tagalog dub, that’s probably really good for a first start to a first gig voice acting.

One of my amazing friends recommended this to me, and I am really glad she did. My knowledge on Filipino folklore was close to 0 and so just seeing an animated series that shows them was awesome for me. At times, I did feel a little confused on what certain characters were or represented, but I was so intrigued that I searched them up after watching episodes. Twas a series that I don't regret watching for sure; especially with all that I learned. (And yes! It is available overseas~ I am from the U.S.. ^.^)

As a Filipino who knows next to nothing about Filipino folklore and such, I did feel that the way they presented the information was a bit overwhelming to me in my opinion. If you are also like me but thought that they presented the information at a good pace and such, then good for you. I couldn't get completely invested in its lore and characters because of it especially since they only had 6 episodes to work with and really fit a lot into those episodes. While I still liked the show I only wished that they made more episodes to really help flesh their characters and mythology at a nice pace that doesn't feel overwhelming. I most certainly understand the appeal of the show however and if you really loved the show and such then kudos to you!
I feel like it's kinda good that they aren't fleshed out. If any other studios decide to make another series not related to Trese, the Filipino monsters would still contain that certain uncertainty to it. As someone who isn't familiar with the mythologies, I'm at the very least excited for the potential of Chinese folklore as well. If they decided to go on the same place, I wouldn't be opposed. If they went to what you said, I'd like it still. Depends on how they handle it :)
I suppose it would have been helpful to unfamiliar viewers if the show presented at least a bit of info at the end of each episode. like a little infographic about the creature that was shown in the episode to give the viewer context, additional they could strategically place this info in any episode to enhance the storytelling.
I think in some parts, especially the last episode, there was a lot of exposition. And yes, all characters and their relationships with each other could have been fleshed out more. But I also think the mythology part doesn't need much explanation. I didn't know much at all either, but it keeps up the mystery. As much as I also want to know what everything is and what the deal is with each thing, it has to keep some mistery, and for me that part looks good the way it is. It's the prophecy part and, as I said, the characters and relationships that I think needed more time.
Liza did a good job in some parts and bad in some. Understandable since it's her first time to voice act. They we're probably trying to catch more people to watch the series so they casted her. But hiring a professional voice actor would have been better. Hopefully she gets better at it coz there's more seasons to come. Filo too btw.
The biggest mythological thing in the series was solid bar of chocnut. the size and it not crumbling after being opened is supernatural. whoever made that scene must have seen a chocnut in a supermarket and a piece of chocnut in google, associated it with chocolate bar but never knew that inside the chocnut, which looked like a chocolate bar on the outside, were smaller chocnuts
Hello, Mexican Netflix got Trese and I was supposed to watch the first episode, then sleep... I didn't, it hooked me up, finished all episodes in one night. My only problem with the different mythological creatures presented was that not much information was given for them, like I would have liked to know their names and characteristics as well as the myth the bring, but they did not feel overwhelming. They also gave a wider view on the Trese world, which I liked. With that said I loved this show! I took a guess once I heard the English dub to say it was Filipino because accents sound similar, but not quite, people that say it sounds Mexican is because they haven't heard other accents except that one! Frustrating, but I really liked the show and definitely going to read the comic because I'm intrigued! Love from Mexico 💕💕💕
It's on Canadian Netflix. I just started watching it. I don't know anything about Filipino folklore or culture. So I was excited to start this show. I'm enjoying it so far. The only thing I'm upset about is Netflix doesn't translate on the English dub. So it just says *speaking foreign language*. Okay but like I need to know to understand the story. So I'll rewatch it, but not in English.
It’s sad that they wanted a famous face rather than a person with experience. Well people are probably tired of seeing this kind of edit but I’ve never had the chance to do it before so here goes: I’ve never gotten this many likes before thanks! 🍪
there's several reasons why, with money being no. 1. animation is expensive and takes a long time, while tv shows that cost the same take half the time. they needed something to attract the money people's attention, is why. no hate for Liza's voice tho, I believe she did her best
@@abigaildiamante9096 i think that even without liza people would still get interested. But yeah she did what she can, if they're planning on a second season, then there is still room for improvement.
I’m glad you pointed out what Novas grandma whispered to her. Moat reviews I saw seems to forget that darker twist and jump to child murder immediately
I feel attacked at the conyo parts cuz I remember seeing lot of people's comment on some of my (especially Haikyuu) Tagalog dubs that I sound like a foreigner or Japanese trying to speak Tagalog. Not that they hate it tho (well, but some do but I dun really care lol). Great video btw! I also have hopes that the Tagalog dub would improve when Season 2 comes. I support it!
1.) Talking about representation, it does matter a lot. You don't really see a lot of great Filipino animation, and the animation industry is heavily diluted with Western and Japanese animation. It's refreshing to finally see our own culture represented on screen with quality and care. 2.) I understand why they needed to cast a popular name in order to rake up viewers. This is a first major animated series for Filipinos, and there were a lot of risks taken for the producers to give a Filipino-themed story a shot. This makes the success of this series crucial so that we can have more in the future. Of course, I also understand that we could hire a known name and face, but still have quality dubbing (I'm pretty sure there could be a lot of other known actors who might do better in dubbing Trese).
I honestly want people to stop saying it's cringy when it's actually pretty cool! I also agree to the fact you can see that Liza is trying her best. Her voice really fits Trese but yeah sometimes it's weird qwq Also SIMP GANG FOR THE KAMBALS XD
I think the first Filipino animated series was "Ang Panday" (I remember staying up late as a kid to watch the premiere in channel 9). The character design was directly copied from Fernando Por Jr. and the animation style was rotoscoping so the movements were top notch.
I’m so glad you’re recommending this. I got excited when I heard of it and binged the whole thing in a couple days (which for me is rare, even things I love). Reminds me of Hellboy Animated.
Great review Ros Mo! I think it's very good to have an animated series about the folklore of a specific country, so people will not only going to enjoy it, but learn about that folklore too!
I’m in America, and I watched Trese on Netflix. I’m not at all familiar with the folklore, but I LOVE learning about cultures. Their languages, cultural norms, folklore, everything. I really enjoyed the series. I’d love to see more

I watched this in North America and it was hooked from the jump, it made me want more cuz the creatures, the lore, the world and so on. I just want more both of Trese and Filipino Folklore in shows here in the states. Also the dynamic of Alexandra, Crispin and Basilio being the best of siblings just ah, please give me more! I can't recommend this show enough because this is just such a solid show and I've already rewatched it 4 times before coming to this review, and now I'm going onto my 5th, go Team Trese!
@@RosMo4 Great to know I'm not the only one and that i wasnt going insane XD, i was starting to think "potek, ako lang ba ang may kilala kay Manny?" amongst my friends and family
Interesting. One of the presumably upcoming "Trese" episodes, from a one-shot comics story, is loosely based on that boxer and the diabolical deal that gave him his winning streak. (IRL, he's a Bible-faith Christian, so don't tell him, ok?)
Great video! And you are right, Filipino voice actors don't get as much recognition as English or Japanese VAs. I didn't even know who Blair Arellano was until I went to google and look him up.
I've been a fan of this because the creators worked in Advertising. Same with the industry im working with. 🥺 They were my idols but I'm too poor to buy the comic so I borrow one. 😂
I mean whoever the Filipino dubber voice aqua from konosuba her voice actor is really talented she got Aqua's pathetic whiny screeches and scream. I mean all of the Filipino dubber's in konosuba are amazing. I remember an episode and my parents watching it with me and I am so worried about Darkness's voice the erotic scenes of masochism and they are there watching it with me and I am dead ass dyig good thing they don't really get what is going on in the show.
Yes it's shown overseas, especially in the US. Most of the English dub cast are Filipino-Americans with Trese's English voice actress being Filipino-Canadian. Like you said, some of "small" criticisms is they sound Hispanic. Some of us pointed out that you would get that Filipino-American accent which is mainly English with some degree of exposure of Tagalog or Tagalog accent. Forgot who it was, but one of the voice actors said that to get somewhat the accent, they just have to think about their parents when they speak to them in English.
Definitely agree with the Tagalog dub making the comedic scenes funnier and the intense scenes more.. intense lmao Regarding #represent , it honestly felt refreshing to see something come from my home country (born in Pinas, raised in SG) that isn't a teleserye, not that I'm hating on teleseryes haha Overall I'm hooked and I can't wait for S2!!
saw it in America - really enjoyed it and i felt like i really got to learn a whole lot about the Philippines lore and it's so rich! i want to watch it again :D
As a comic reader, I'm just happily vibing and enjoying that the series is getting a lot of love (also enjoying seeing people simp over the characters, like Finally). Don't really care for any of the discourse, just vibes~
I'm so enjoying your animated movie/series review. Highly recommend a new animated movie on Netflix called the wish dragon. There are so many fun enjoyable moments and very smooth animation. There is one big annoyance for me but I won't spoil because I'm certain you will love it the film.
Just finished it. I liked how it represented that neither than humans or monsters were completely evil. Some people were good/evil and some monsters were just as morally grey. The zombie episode and last episode were the most emotional for me. The Chanak was more shocking.
I do not recommend with English dubbing, it sounds like the actors are doing it as a punishment. It's much nicer to watch in Filipino, with subtitles in your language.
I like how the story plot and flow go together with the Filipino Folklore. I've been watching Filipino dubbed anime and aside from being familiar with the TEAM PUSAKAL(from Filipino animation entitled Barangay 143), I am also familiar about shows that come from Filipino comics about Filipino Folklore such as Bella Bandida and Tabi Po.
That's true, tho I saw a lot of people wanting Glaiza De Castro to dub Trese and I couldn't agree more! I hope these Filipino Producers give proper recognition to more suitable and professional individuals; giving the small content creators a chance of portrayal, and hit the nail thereーwe need quality, not quantity. Yet, most are throwing away our very own local talents! 👁👄👁
ayye, a fellow Filipino! it was definitely a fun watch. same sentiments for the finale honestly. only thing I would have liked is we had extra episodes for build up, otherwise this was a fine series for me
I need to hear either Crispin or Basilio call Alex "Ate" (Big Sister) later in the series. If Netflix considers continuing it of course (I got skeptical because of the after credits scene by the end of the last episode). But yeah, I'm betting that it'll happen because why not lol
I’m African American and I didn’t know any of the folklore creatures except the tikbalang. It was an interesting look in Filipino lore and culture and I understood everything pretty well
There's a lot of dubs but the off-putting thing is the subs and dubs of Filipino don't line up. Like they do mean the same thing, but c'mon, the subs should've been better. I'm the kind of viewer who needs subs because my hearing isn't great, it's decent, not great. I swear there are moments where the character monologues and the subs be like "Sige, Paalam"
My rating for this series is 7/10. I agree that the ending as confusing as HELL. My favorite character besides Crispin and Basilyo is Jobert. And yeah i cant wait for season 2
Regarding hospital with a letter h, I think it make sense a little bit. The comics are originally published in English. I'm not sure because I'm dense and confused ahahaha. But all seven published comics are already in English, and about three or four out of seven have Filipino (Tagalog) version. So yeah. But I get why you're weirded out by it 😂 A little late of a reaction, but I'm just filling the void from waiting for season 2.
I really love the filipino script. So much so, that it's such a shame tthat some of its nuance got lost in translation in the English ver. The sentence: "May parating na bagyo", sounds much more ominous and fitting since it alludes to Bagyon Lektro. The name "Bagyon" came from "Bagyo" which literally means "Storm".
The show is quite nice. It lacks some horror aspects we experienced as kids related to the monsters but I'm not complaining. Hats off to you for explaining the difference between acting and voice acting.
Hala late ako! : ( But I've seen this show some time ago in Filipino dub and...it was pretty decent (and I like watching usually in English)! I do think it can be better delivery-wise, but it wasn't too bothersome. : D I hope we can create and share our shows on a more international level! Trese likely has paved a wider path for it : D
I have to say another thing that I liked about Trese that I don’t see a lot of people talking about was how they promoted the show. They really made videos of aswangs destroying Trese posters and I thought that was really witty and cool
Episode 3 was one of the strongest in my opinion, I was not expecting what happened. I did feel that the pace of the show was too fast, it felt like I had missed episodes just because so much happens in to short an amount of time. I did like it though and I would be interested in seeing more animated shows from the Philippines
Agreed about the exposition dump and deus ex machina, though yeah, it's overall okay. The great parts are character design and story which can be owed from the source material. Animation could do with a lot more polish, though it's tolerable considering they're probably working on a low budget). Since it appears to have done well, hopefully they'd get a higher budget if ever there's further seasons. Oh, and I didn't mind Liza's voice acting that much. She did well considering it's her first foray into voice acting, but if she's sincere about giving justice to the series and character, she'd at least get some amount of VA workshop.
I was surprised during the drag race episode to see that there were no cars parked at the side of the road and no traffic hehehe. It was sorta unbelievable since things were not like that when I was living in manila, even more unbelievable since it was in edsa.
I think its a marketing strategy to use a popular actor to dub the lead character. I like the animation because it sent me back to classic Ben 10 days :,)
Yeah and reminded me of Legend of Korra and Avatar
I love it so much! It's an awesome show!
The animation highkey reminded me of marvel and dc cartoons like Batman, the Dark Knight and so on :OO
I watched the series so far and I loved it.
Legit my own aunt recommended Trese to me and I can’t thank her enough.
Am i the only Filipino that asked "why is Manny Pacquiao there?" when i saw Hank for the first time?
I called him "Manny" before I learned his name was actually Hank tbh 😂
@@RosMo4 Great to know I'm not the only one and that i wasnt going insane XD, i was starting to think "potek, ako lang ba ang may kilala kay Manny?" amongst my friends and family
Bruh my cousin also said Hank looks like Manny Pacquiao 😂
Interesting. One of the presumably upcoming "Trese" episodes, from a one-shot comics story, is loosely based on that boxer and the diabolical deal that gave him his winning streak. (IRL, he's a Bible-faith Christian, so don't tell him, ok?)
Did I mention he's a well-known Senator, too?
I just binged this, and omg its so good!
(I also may be biased cause Dante Basco has a small roll)
this popped up in my recommendation and i do not regret watching it. sobrang entertaining mo pakinggan partida ha i have short attention span ❤️
Great video!
And you are right, Filipino voice actors don't get as much recognition as English or Japanese VAs. I didn't even know who Blair Arellano was until I went to google and look him up.
This is the first time I've seen your channel and I love you
I watched it with my moms side, and my tita LOVED it
When I heard the OP I liked it lik It's so addicting to listen to
AAAh I love your revieeew!!
I hope this jumpstart the high quality Filipino animation
YEEEEEEES!!!!!!! WAITED FOR THIS!
Omg true! The Tag dub of Konosuba was so good!
This reminds me so much of blood Plus & Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Yes it's shown overseas, especially in the US. Most of the English dub cast are Filipino-Americans with Trese's English voice actress being Filipino-Canadian. Like you said, some of "small" criticisms is they sound Hispanic. Some of us pointed out that you would get that Filipino-American accent which is mainly English with some degree of exposure of Tagalog or Tagalog accent. Forgot who it was, but one of the voice actors said that to get somewhat the accent, they just have to think about their parents when they speak to them in English.
Definitely agree with the Tagalog dub making the comedic scenes funnier and the intense scenes more.. intense lmao
Regarding #represent , it honestly felt refreshing to see something come from my home country (born in Pinas, raised in SG) that isn't a teleserye, not that I'm hating on teleseryes haha
Overall I'm hooked and I can't wait for S2!!
saw it in America - really enjoyed it and i felt like i really got to learn a whole lot about the Philippines lore and it's so rich! i want to watch it again :D
Laughtrip yung intro hahaha 1st time ko nakapanuod ng vid mo, alabeeet~
As a comic reader, I'm just happily vibing and enjoying that the series is getting a lot of love (also enjoying seeing people simp over the characters, like Finally). Don't really care for any of the discourse, just vibes~
Me Simping at Crispin at Basilio
╮(╯▽╰)╭ kekekeke
I'm so enjoying your animated movie/series review. Highly recommend a new animated movie on Netflix called the wish dragon. There are so many fun enjoyable moments and very smooth animation. There is one big annoyance for me but I won't spoil because I'm certain you will love it the film.
Just finished it. I liked how it represented that neither than humans or monsters were completely evil. Some people were good/evil and some monsters were just as morally grey. The zombie episode and last episode were the most emotional for me. The Chanak was more shocking.
i didnt mind the filipino dub i thought it was great, but then again im an englishera so anyones filipino is superior to my ears😅
Ooh same, I’m also englishera.
same, i can speak our language pretty well but what always gets me is the GOD 👏 DAMN 👏 ACCENT
I do not recommend with English dubbing, it sounds like the actors are doing it as a punishment. It's much nicer to watch in Filipino, with subtitles in your language.
The comeuppance that came to that actress who killed their undead child, was very satisfying.
Reminds me a lot of Spirit Hunter.
I dont know who you are because you only showed up in my recommendation and you’re a filipino so im gonna give you u a sub
ayye, a fellow Filipino! it was definitely a fun watch. same sentiments for the finale honestly. only thing I would have liked is we had extra episodes for build up, otherwise this was a fine series for me
y'all forgot RPG Metanoia. The OG Filipino animated show.
The sad part about the spoiler warning is that for those who aren’t in the right region, it doesn’t matter since they can’t access the show.
I need to hear either Crispin or Basilio call Alex "Ate" (Big Sister) later in the series. If Netflix considers continuing it of course (I got skeptical because of the after credits scene by the end of the last episode). But yeah, I'm betting that it'll happen because why not lol
Great video Ros Mo!
Love your voice and animation and reminds me of Jaiden animation.
New subscriber here.❤️❤️❤️
Super Inggo, Brgy 143. I think there was an animated movie too, Urduja. They tried to make it like a Disney princess movie, starring Regine Velasques.
Sadly I can’t find it on the USA Netflix but this series looks so interesting!
My rating for this series is 7/10. I agree that the ending as confusing as HELL. My favorite character besides Crispin and Basilyo is Jobert. And yeah i cant wait for season 2
Yesss I love these videos
Regarding hospital with a letter h, I think it make sense a little bit. The comics are originally published in English. I'm not sure because I'm dense and confused ahahaha. But all seven published comics are already in English, and about three or four out of seven have Filipino (Tagalog) version. So yeah. But I get why you're weirded out by it 😂 A little late of a reaction, but I'm just filling the void from waiting for season 2.
I like how Talagbusao was defeated in the comic book! It made more sense than the adaptation.
I just found you channel today and I did not realise your filipino, coming from a fello filipino
I hope we can create and share our shows on a more international level!
Now that you mention that---omg 😂😂
