I purchased a GCL summit reserve after having looked at several vehicles, including Audis and Jags. The Jeep is nicer than most luxury vehicles. The infrared is an awesome safety feature and the McIntosh sound system is beyond amazing!🙌🏻

I don't see this being compared to the Telluride or Highlander anymore, Jeep has stepped it up to the Acura/Lexus luxury category. I think Jeep has done a wonderful job with this one. As an everyday driver the 3.6 L should be adequate. Good camera work Lori.
Unfortunately not. Telluride will have a refresh next year with digital dash and wireless Android apple car play. Telluride offers ambient lighting and second row cooled seats. I had a Kia Telluride 2020 was going to upgrade to 2022 Telluride nightfall edition but when I saw KIA charging over 6,000 to 10,000 over list price I decided to look at the Jeep Grand Cherokee L I’m glad I did. It is amazing I loved it so much that I traded in my Telluride and got the Overland which is featured in this video.

This is a great looking vehicle, inside and out. It sets a new bar in the segment and I'm predicting that Jeep will sell a ton of these. Thanks Joe and Laurie! Great review and I appreciate you taking the time to show us the night vision. It's so cool.

It would be really cool to see you start to test out the safety features, such as automatic breaking by putting some sort of box (something that wont damage the car) in the way and see if the vehicle will stop on its own. Also, if they come with self parking features, it would be neat to see you parallel park, or perpendicular park.
I’m seriously thinking of trading my XC90 for one of these. Two problems: The V6 is underpowered at this price and the V8 is low tech. I can’t find one with the middle bench seat. I don’t understand the infatuation with captain chairs in a midsize suv. If you have three kids it makes it nearly impossible to carry any cargo or my dogs.
What's wrong with the Hemi V8 being low tech? It's just as powerful as most in the $50-60k class (the V6 doesn't make terribly uncompetitive numbers either as a "base" engine)... and if you plan to keep the truck 8+ years that "low tech" 5.7L will pay off in reliability compared to most German V8's, I'd bet money on that.
@@Stressless2023 the problem is that hemi cost 10-15 grand over base motor and guzzles gas, with barely anything to show for. Its mid 6 second 0-60 are abysmal compared to other 3row suvs in that price range. There are competitors like Pilot and Atlas that are a second slower but so they are 10-15 grand cheaper. Getting into the 60s really places this into germans territory. This thing wont hold candle next to luxury brands with their longer warrantees, brand loaners, refinement and prestige.
@@k-man-dude The Hemi's 0-60 times are not in the mid-6's for starters. That's roughly what the base V6 manages. Secondly, the V8 does not cost $10-15k more than the base V6 in the Grand Cherokee. Lastly, ALL V8 SUV's will be less fuel efficient than their smaller-engined counterparts, this is nothing new. If you're personally not impressed by this vehicle then you're certainly in the minority, because it absolutely "holds a candle" to other similarly-priced upscale SUV's in its segment in every category that you mentioned, like it or not. Sorry.
Did you drive one? I found the V6 to be adequate but it didn’t feel super effortless like the V8 did. If you don’t want either of those two engines, of which I would go with the V8 even with it’s dated design (still feels effortless to accelerate with in most situations), Jeep is allegedly creating a new turbo inline 6 cylinder for these, but it could be years before they put it in them. The 4xE is coming though.
@@Stressless2023 I wish they offered the V8 on the Laredo and Limited. My mom is in the market for a towing SUV (with a V8). She doesn’t want to spend the $60k for a Tahoe or Expedition just to tow with, when she doesn’t need the extra space etc. So, we found out the Durango and Grand Cherokee are the only midsize SUV’s that still offer a V8 and healthy towing numbers, but alas, it isn’t available unless the customer is able to spend $60k for a towing-packaged, V8 Overland trim or higher. In the past, a person could get a V8 Laredo with the tow package for about $40k. Now it’s $15-$20k more than that to get the same thing in terms of towing package. So basically a person has to get a bunch of extra stuff just to get to the V8.
Hello Joe. Once again good in depth review and drive video for this newly released fifth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Once again nice job with the videography from Lori. In general, Jeep did a great job with the overall design schematics of this vehicle. The exterior has a sleeker/seamless appearance which is nice and better than the outgoing fourth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee. The interior looks and feels more luxurious over the outgoing fourth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee as well. I test drove the Jeep Grand Cherokee L twice so far in two different trim levels. The first test drive was early last month in the Limited trim. The ride was nice n comfy and it wasn't from any of the top trims. Just imagine the ride comfort from the three high tier trims Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve feels like. The second test drive was during the 2nd to last week of last month, but this time it was in the Overland trim. The ride comfort was nicer than the Limited trim due to coming equipped with the adjustable air ride suspension system. For the Overland trim I tried out couple other features which wasn't found on the Limited trim. The hands free foot activated lift gate is nice, the power folding rear seats are nice as well and the McIntosh 19 speaker premium audio system sounded great! On both instances I went to the dealer with the initial intent to test drive one with the legendary 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine. However, none arrived yet at the local dealership with that engine. As few of us to some of us know from reading articles in previous months, the HEMI V8 engine is optional on the three top tier trims Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve. From my view Jeep should've made the HEMI V8 engine standard on the Summit Reserve trim since it's the highest trim. Historically, previous generation Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles had the 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine optional started with the Limited trim, but with this new fifth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee L Jeep decided to up the ante by having it optional starting with the Overland trim. There is just one correction to be make based on what was mentioned this video. The horsepower for the V6 is actually 293 not 290 which was mentioned in the video. You are correct about the horsepower and torque numbers for the 5.7 HEMI V8 engine which is 357 for the horsepower and 390 pound feet of torque. I'm on agreeable terms with you that the use of the piano black was a little too much. I assume Jeep did it like this to go with the flow based on what they saw from the luxury mid-size SUV competitors. In the center console area where the switches and dial shifter are, the use of some kind of metal finish could've been used or a combination of a little piano black and some metal finishes. Maybe in a mid-cycle refresh of this fifth generation of the Jeep Grand Cherokee L we could see that or if not maybe they'll do something like that for the next generation sixth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Back at the 2nd to last week of last month when I test drove the Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Overland trim, it came with 20 inch rims like the ones on the Overland trim shown in this video. I like these rims better than the 18 inch rims that it also comes with. In a upcoming review video either with this same trim level or with the two higher trims Summit or Summit Reserve maybe you can demonstrate the hands free foot activated lift gate feature. That feature is on the three top tier trims Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve. I tried out that feature and it was nice. As long as the key fob is with you just walk up to the vehicle, move your foot in a kicking motion under the middle part of the bumper and that's it. The lift gate will open. The lift gate will also close the same way. Pretty neat feature. This will be of use for those who have their hands full. To answer the question asked which was the title of this video and was also asked during the video. Without a doubt the Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Overland trim definitely destroys the Kia Telluride in the SX trim. The Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Overland trim easily mops up the floor against the Kia Telluride in the SX trim. The advantages for the Telluride are ventilated seats in the second row of seats and a little more cargo space when all seats are folded down, but that's where the fun stops for it. The Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Overland trim has many advantages. It has a fully digital driver instrument cluster screen, a 19 speaker premium audio system, a panoramic roof, interior camera, hands free foot activated lift gate, power folding rear seats, more features in the third row seating area, better towing capacity, adjustable air ride suspension system and more. The interior features along with quality materials used for the panels in the Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve trims makes the Jeep Grand Cherokee L competitive with the luxury mid-size SUV competitors. Based on what I saw from those three trim levels the Jeep Grand Cherokee L beats some of those mid-size luxury competitive vehicles. What some people are not aware of is that for this new generation fifth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee L, Jeep's main objective of interest is to target the luxury SUV competitors. The three top tier trims Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve are prime examples of that. Another example of that is when the big brother Jeep Grand Wagoneer gets released. That full size SUV will compete with the luxury full size SUVs while the Wagoneer will compete with the regular full size SUVs. This will be a very good year for Jeep as a whole.
Thank you soo much Joe and Lori, I always go to your reviews before I definitely look to buy a car, Looking to get either the regular G.C. in the Summit Reserve or the L in the High Altitude and this review definitely made me feel like I am making the right decision!!
I'm glad you mentioned how you felt about the 3.6 Joe. It's fine in my 4 door Wrangler but this has to be a load for it. A remarkable car though. I want one.
You should review them now, without the air suspension that Jeep is apparently leaving off them because of lack of parts, it's even on the window stickers as a credit.
I love how Jeep took advantage of a fully digital instrument cluster in that they incorporated some very cool features a digital display affords. Some of the lower end brands (e.g. Hyundai) did full digital, but it doesn't do anything other than look like a typical analog instrument cluster except digital. Except for the camera/turn signal feature. That's cool. The Jeep cluster is giving me Audi vibes with how well they're using full digital.
The Kia Telluride by a mile. Feels more premium on the inside. Its really only missing only 4 things to make it a flawless vehicle: 1. Hidden rear windshield wipper, 2. Wider rear seat armchairs, 3. Panoramic sunroof and 4. Dual exhaust.
Every time I see it I think “ Chrysler will soon shock the world with even a greater all new Durango” then I think “as long as they made the grand cherokee with 3 rows, may be there will not be a Durango any more”… Your review is fantastic as always. Keep it up
Maybe this is the 3 row SUV that will single handedly get the Telluride's market adjustment moving in a downward trend. After all the Telluride looks tough, but the Jeep GCL is actually tough.
Joe love the videos. One thing tho you never give a clear view on your opinion of the overall car verse competition. On throttle yes- but let’s get a real compare review. Should I buy a jeep or a Kia?
Joe for a while now I’ve been looking for a nice and roomy SUV and I finally made my decision and decided to go with this new Grand Cherokee L overland which I finally bought it yesterday and let me tell u I’m so happy with my decision and like u said this Jeep deserves every penny! Btw I always enjoy watching ur reviews on cars specially the grand Cherokee and ur funny specially when it comes to Twinkies 😂❤ God Bless!
We picked up 2021 GCL limited and are thoroughly impressed. We did not cross shop with Highlander or Telluride… we were looking at 2022 Acura MDX. In the end Jeep won hands down due to overall capability (rear air shocks for towing), more cushioned and quieter ride and an infotainment system that’s intuitive and light years ahead of 2022 MDX (we have optional 10” screen). I’ve a few gripes…. at $50K+ MSRP v6 is underwhelming and you only get white ambient lights. Beyond that Jeep has a hit at their hands.
Same here. Third row not as critical to us empty nesters. But I like the ungrades on this new design. Wonder if they'll throw a diesel in there like GM did with the Tahoe/Yukon.
I get what you mean but at the same time it’s what people are buying. Where I live you can only factory order the telluride and I was told by them no one was ordering the bottom 2 trims just the upper 2.
Telluride SX Nightfall with Prestige can compete with this. Tele tops out at $51k and this is $63k. Better warranty with the Kia and Jeeps reliability😬 Tele FTW.
Liking Telluride better. Still waiting on that GV70 2.5t review. There has been one at Crown so hoping it will be posted soon. Thanks both of you for amazing work! 👏
Love your videos brother. I just bought a 2021 brand new ( I know it's 2022 but 22's weren't in yet). Test drove a Palisade... Horrible power and stuffy inside. It also has no panoramic roof as jeep does. I have always said I would never buy a Jeep... Eating crow now. Would have been great if you showed of the adaptive cruise control with it's distance setting to maintain from vehicles in front. Got the 5.7 hemi. Loving it man. Keep up the good 👍 work brother!!
Joe, loved the review! Solid SUV and definitely in my list of options. Would really appreciate your perspective, especially in the mid size segment, around the current chip shortage and how its pushing delivery timelines, availability, pricing and incentives. Tried to go Drive a Telluride in Texas, and dealer price is $5-6k above MSRP, obviously no incentives and no availability in sight! So much for my excitement 😂😂😂!
I would like to see you review the Limited trim. Thats closer to my budget. I just feel like for the Limited price, its kind of disappointing to not have ventilated seats, wireless charging, ect.
@@geohaynes well, I like the heated and ventilated seats in the front and back, with the massaging seats up front. I like the night vision capabilities, and heads up display. And I especially like the McIntosh audio system along with the wireless Android Auto that actually fits the screen. For whatever reason, in the Telluride, Android Auto would only display on 2/3rds of the screen while leaving the last third a black box telling you what phone was connected. Thing is, I would have gotten another Telluride if the dealers weren't marking that damn thing up to all be damned. I wasn't willing to pay more than I already was for a Telluride, so this right here came right on time.
I got a 22 2 row overland. i agree. i dont like the fake vents. the flat black grill should be gloss black. other then that i think thay did a great job on the Grand Cherokee
If youre going to spend nearly $65k on this behemoth, do yourself a favor and just get the hemi. It’s well worth the $3000 for the extra performance. That engine alone makes the GC-L a worthy competitor to the Bmw x7 x40i, Mercedes GLS450, and Lincoln aviator. The 3.6 is fine for the basic trim levels under $50k.
WOW is right. Also WELL DONE! Jeep wasn't in a rush going into frantic mode to create a third row seating mid-size SUV like the competitors. Jeep took their time to include third row seating and they delivered with the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. This vehicle will do well in overall sales.
I would like to say, Jeep GCL has rwd based awd. It is by far just better than fwd awd. On top of that, the awd is more advanced than the teletubbie, traverse, etc...Hemi, amazing.
5 year 2017 Durango Owner. Just order one of these on Bright white.. I was so close to picking up a new Durango and then I see these on the Lot and the Interior and Pano sunroof, air suspension, the 10” screens galore, Nappa Leather, 4x4 , McIntosh Sound system, this Jeep is comparable to the Escalade and Range Rover as far as tech and interior and luxury goes .. Kia and Toyota are childs play when it comes to Jeep! L
That’s awesome tho I always was interested in the grand Cherokee when it came to suvs but didn’t consider them because they weren’t 3 row but this is a game changer
Very good review of the "Overland" model of the Grand Cherokee L! It definitely has some very good option, but I wish you had given the price of this vehicle!
I went to a KIA dealer in NY today. I looked at the TELLURIDE which had a window sticker price of $50,510.00, the salesman told me straight up that they were selling the car for $10,000 over sticker price!!! Making the car $60,000!!!! and that they are not negotiating prices! Not worth it to me. So I'm going with the GC L Limitted for under $50,000, which to me feels more solid overall .
Although the V6 isn’t anything to write home about, the V6 is a quiet engine that has a good sound to it (for a V6). It merges onto the highway fine, but I wouldn’t pass anyone with it on a one lane road. The V8 on the other hand...
I pass people just fine with my V6 2019 limited grand Cherokee. I’m worried about the V6 on the L not being able to get me going like it can in the ‘19 limited. unfortunately it’s my only option right now. Lease is up and the V8’s are custom order only for now near me.
Really considering one of these. Hate that the mirrors are always black though. Jeep did a great job. You are getting more then the Telluride and they aren’t charging over msrp on these yet.
Joe I love your videos. You always get me in a good mood with your corny jokes haha keep up the great work and hopefully you can review the new KIA EV6 when it becomes available.
Great video. Caught my attention because we actually traded my wife’s Telluride for the Grand Cherokee L. The Jeep feels way more premium and the infotainment system is light years better than the Kia. Don’t get me wrong, Kia was a good vehicle but the Jeep is definitely a step up.
Did you purchase the v6 or v8? I’m having a hard time deciding which one to go with considering how much it will take to fill it up and keep it filled for daily driving.
Simple body lines, Elegant Head and tail lights design 👍, spacious and nice interior for its trim 👍. A worthy V6 chariot for soccer mom my wife said 😁. Well done Jeep, thx and keep em coming Joe.
I drove a genesis like the one Tiger crashed...thinking I would buy a luxury SUV to replace my 2020 JGC .... it really didn't impress me....drove the Palisade...it actually felt better than the Genesis but then I drove the JGC L. 2021...it felt more solid than the Hyundai products and better put together...I purchased the lesser model for $50000 and traded my 2020 for 35000 dollars (had for 2 years)....Jeeps just feel more solid and substantial.
Kia/Hyundai uses high strength steel from their own factory... BMW, Genesis, Audi, Mercedes Benz and lexus uses high strength quality steel also and materials.. This nice looking cheap death trap ahaha will fold like a tin can in an accident... Don't get fooled by the design and initial looks, dig deeper, deep down its using Chrysler cheap materials .. Telluride crashes like a tank and the Palisades.. The Jeeps folds like a tin can... Its rolling death trap of cheap materials with flash and weak bones... Look at crash test on you tube and the ratings... Jeeps come last and is least reliable... Why put your family at risk in this??
Lori really does a great job at videography. I just hope big guns departure was amicable. I always loved how you thanked him at the end of every video. Very classy.
I think it’s a great car but I don’t think they are selling because Jeep did too much. Too much when they are also offering the Wgoneer AND GRAND Wagoneer. You split your own market

Not gonna lie, I lost a bit of interest after you mentioned their asking price of 63 grand for this thing...
How much are mark ups on the Telluride?
Jeeps have always been expensive. But they hold their value very well
@@michaelconlin5614 Still far less than this. And Tellurides are also holding value well
10k market adjustment in most places.
Yeah, the two cars just because they have three rows. I've had 2 Jeep GC Summits and test drove the Telluride Prestige. Different classes of cars.
The good thing that Jeep didn't screw up the powertrain like the new Ford Explorer. Thanks for your review 👍
I'm sold on that jeep. Great video
Outstanding review and crazy sense of humor:)
Thanks David for letting me bring you the cars and the laughs.
Well-appointed SUV. Love the colour! Wouldn't mind one. Thanks,Joe. Thanks for all your video work, alright!

Joe you are the Best "" on the throttle
Yeah Really makes my day. Big Thanks. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
This is my dream vehicle! Terrific job Joe.
I love it my boy Joe keep up the work and I love the video lot real true talk 💯and funny 😄good job 👏👍💯💯💯💯💯💯
One of the best rear view cameras to date😎
11:51 that's 5 times faster than Uconnect 4? Still looks painfully slow.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed. That was a solid 3 second lag.
I peeped that, too!!😕😕
Probably because of the camera
@@natemartinez2745 I see your point, but I don't think it really works here. With all due respect.
Just picked up the white Altitude version! Traded our 2018 Honda Accord and absolutely love it! Power is adequate and ride is comfortable!
That price is a zonk for me, for that power/performance
The Kia Telluride by a mile. Feels more premium on the inside. Its really only missing only 4 things to make it a flawless vehicle: 1. Hidden rear windshield wipper, 2. Wider rear seat armchairs, 3. Panoramic sunroof and 4. Dual exhaust.
And...memory seats for EX trim.
Every time I see it I think “ Chrysler will soon shock the world with even a greater all new Durango” then I think “as long as they made the grand cherokee with 3 rows, may be there will not be a Durango any more”…
Your review is fantastic as always. Keep it up
Maybe this is the 3 row SUV that will single handedly get the Telluride's market adjustment moving in a downward trend. After all the Telluride looks tough, but the Jeep GCL is actually tough.
@@Itzascript
At MSRP or less, I agree. I would never spend over that for any Telluride though.
Wow, Jeep really stepped up their game! Very nice looking SUV!
Nice Joe…..thanks. Looking forward to the shorter version
Same here. Third row not as critical to us empty nesters. But I like the ungrades on this new design. Wonder if they'll throw a diesel in there like GM did with the Tahoe/Yukon.
Great review!!! Love the details! I’m anxiously awaiting for the 2022 Grand Cherokee Two-Row review!!
That Cherokee Overland trim should be compared to similarly priced SUVs not a $50k Telluride.
I get what you mean but at the same time it’s what people are buying. Where I live you can only factory order the telluride and I was told by them no one was ordering the bottom 2 trims just the upper 2.
I would like to see the Limited version which is comparable to Telluride SX pricing.
Telluride SX Nightfall with Prestige can compete with this. Tele tops out at $51k and this is $63k. Better warranty with the Kia and Jeeps reliability😬 Tele FTW.
*Test-drove both. Telluride was much better in almost all fronts despite its lower price tag.*
@@long_fellow which one had a smoother ride?
THIS is exactly how I want to equip one; too bad finding this option pack WITH the bench seat seems to be impossible.
Jeep is SERIOUS! I love it! Competition brings on more competition
"Hanky Panky", "Keep Your Hands to Yourself"...Third row seat shout to hit songs...Well done.
Liking Telluride better. Still waiting on that GV70 2.5t review. There has been one at Crown so hoping it will be posted soon. Thanks both of you for amazing work! 👏
Can you stand the STRANGE looks?
Just a excellent car I honestly think it looks more luxurious than the telluride
But telluride cheaper
@@kromahj true
@@kromahj
It's "cheaper" because the Telluride is front wheel drive/AWD based while the Grand Cherokee is RWD/4WD.
Awesome review Joe! Please feature more night drives of other vehicles!
Yes more trucks!!! Awesome video
Handsome ride, well done Jeep. That said, I’ll keep my Telluride! :)
I would like to see you review the Limited trim.
Thats closer to my budget.
I just feel like for the Limited price, its kind of disappointing to not have ventilated seats, wireless charging, ect.
I will get that one together for you Dale.
You get the tech package and you have all that for around 1500-2000 extra !
We have the tech package on ours and it has all of that!
I am impressed with the technology especially the night vision and McIntosh sound system
The 3rd row looks comfortable
Was on the fence about this one but I holds a bottle of Yoo-hoo in the door. I’m sold!
I like the way that you think!
Just traded my Telluride in for this right here today!
How do you like it compared to your Telluride?
Honestly really crazy how muxh new cars are getting
I got a 22 2 row overland. i agree. i dont like the fake vents. the flat black grill should be gloss black. other then that i think thay did a great job on the Grand Cherokee
The infotainment looks similar to Maserati ones. Interior is just spot on. Exterior could do better but what an understated car
That fake vent under the liftgate could be used in a pinch if you needed a replacement for the dashboard of your 2022 Civic.
SUPER impressed by the interior. Looks very close to luxury.
You should check the Summit and Summit reserve trim on these. Makes this (which is really nice) look like trash.
Yep very nice in and out only the price
One word wow 🥵
I am so glad that you are liking this Jeep.
Looking good. It’s a good entry for Jeep.
I really do like this color!
@@RaitisRides I like what they’ve done with the interior.
So glad Jeep is putting grand in the Grand
5 year 2017 Durango Owner. Just order one of these on Bright white.. I was so close to picking up a new Durango and then I see these on the Lot and the Interior and Pano sunroof, air suspension, the 10” screens galore, Nappa Leather, 4x4 , McIntosh Sound system, this Jeep is comparable to the Escalade and Range Rover as far as tech and interior and luxury goes .. Kia and Toyota are childs play when it comes to Jeep! L
You can get one of these in the Altitude package, few less bells and whistles but plenty of options, looks very sharp and is closer to $43,000
That’s awesome tho I always was interested in the grand Cherokee when it came to suvs but didn’t consider them because they weren’t 3 row but this is a game changer
Great review! I was waiting for the on throttle action!
Joe Thanks for your hard work and the Grand Cherokee is Great to always thumbs UP.
Great review Joe! Looking forward to a hands on review of the new Wagoneer as well.
Joe great review 👍🏼 Sweet ride. Saving my pennies
Love the blue interior lights sweet. Now this sell me. You should do more night drive and walk around for the interior and exterior lights.
I am hoping you can change the color because I wasn’t a fan of the blue. A nice warm white would be more up my alley but very glad you like it!
I'm a brand new sales consultant. I greatly appreciate your videos, thank you.
Congrats on your new position Frank. I am so glad that I can help you out.
