- The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is the very essence of what it means to be an American luxury SUV. Bigger and better than ever, Jeep is on a mission to give buyers everything they're looking for, from off-road capability to interior quality and comfort. The only question is whether the Grand Cherokee L Summit's pricing is going to be an issue with consumers on a budget. But for those who can pay $60k for a three row SUV, this could very well be one of the best crossovers money can buy in 2021.

What I like about your presentation: 1. you did not try and knock competition, 2. instead you sold your product in comparison citing its strong features, and 3. you are honest in your assessment!!! Jeep Grand Cherokee was called the American Range Rover and with this new model now in 2 and 3 row is now true and now closer to being American Range Rover. Sweet ride.
Great review, I have a Q7 prestige 2021 but it doesn’t have captains chairs. I’m giving it back tomorrow and picking up this model with summit trim. Can’t wait 😝
Great review! I recently looked at a Summit Reserve, and its awesome. To think this is already good, and then you go to the Reserve. The value for what you get in the Reserve is nuts, I mean, they have fancy custom stitched leather covering the entire door, even down to where the door closes, past the door pocket. I hardly see that. There are plenty of other features added in the Reserve, and I think that version would be ever better when compared to the Escalade, Navigator, etc. Again, awesome review!

Hello Boston Auto Blog. As I mentioned in a previous comment post for this video, good in depth review and drive video for this newly released fifth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee L. The Summit trim shown in this video is nice. Jeep did a great job with the overall design schematics of this vehicle. The exterior has a sleeker/seamless appearance which is nice and better than the outgoing fourth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee. The interior looks and feels more luxurious over the outgoing fourth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee as well. I'm on agreeable terms with you that Jeep is doing a combination of two things this time around. The overall ruggedness roots will still be present, but now they're offering luxury features along with more premium materials used throughout the interior of the vehicle. The three top tier trims Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve have the capability to compete well with the third row seating luxury mid-size SUVs. There's an increase in size for the Jeep Grand Cherokee L, but at the same time it's still a mid-size third row seating SUV. With the three top trims I mentioned they can't be compared to the Cadillac Escalade. The Cadillac Escalade would destroy it in terms of size and features. The direct competitor for the Cadillac Escalade would be the soon to be released Jeep Grand Wagoneer. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer will be Jeep's luxury full size SUV. The competitor for the Chevy Tahoe would be the Jeep Wagoneer. The Jeep Wagoneer to compete with the regular full size SUVs while the Jeep Grand Wagoneer to compete with the luxury full size SUVs. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer has the appropriate size and available features to compete with the two full size SUVs....Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator and Infiniti QX80. Even though the BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS are a little shorter in length when compared to the Grand Wagoneer, Escalade and Navigator, they are still full size SUVs. They have the features to prove it. The three top tier trims Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve for the Jeep Grand Cherokee L would compete well with the Cadillac XT6, Lincoln Aviator, Acura MDX and other luxury mid-size third row seating SUVs. In a upcoming review video for the Jeep Grand Cherokee L that would be nice if you could get a hold of one with the legendary 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine. That would mean either to grab an Overland trim, a Summit trim again or the Summit Reserve trim due to the fact that those three trims have the optionon getting the V8 engine. It would be good feel the quick burst of acceleration and the rumbling sound of the V8 engine. I'm not sure if anyone would agree, but what Jeep should've done is still have the V8 engine optional on the Overland and Summit trims, but make it the standard engine on the Summit Reserve trim since that trim level is the highest one. As for the V6 engine what they could've done to make it just a pinch more jumpy off the line was to increase the horsepower to an even 300 and the pound feet of torque to between 270 to 280. If not that, with the current 290 HP and 260 pound feet of torque numbers, let those numbers be achieved at 500 fewer RPMs than where they are now. I don't know at which RPMs those numbers get achieved, but let's say they get achieved at 4,000 RPMs, what Jeep should've done is let them get achieved at 3,500 RPMs. Right now the V6 engine feels jumpy off the line when put into Sport Mode. Maybe Jeep will do something to improve the performance of the V6 engine in a mid-cycle refresh of this fifth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Let's see what happens. Once again, good review video and I'm looking forward to your upcoming video for the one with the V8 engine.
Hello Boston Auto Blog. Good in depth review and drive video for this newly released fifth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Jeep did a great job with the overall design schematics of this vehicle. The exterior has a sleeker/seamless appearance which is nice and better than the outgoing fourth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee. The interior looks and feels more luxurious over the outgoing fourth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee as well. I test drove the Jeep Grand Cherokee L twice so far in two different trim levels. The first test drive was early last month in the Limited trim. The ride was nice n comfy and it wasn't from any of the top trims. Just imagine the ride comfort from the three high tier trims Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve feels like. The second test drive was during the 2nd to last week of last month, but this time it was in the Overland trim. The ride comfort was nicer than the Limited trim due to coming equipped with the adjustable air ride suspension system. For the Overland trim I tried out three other features which wasn't found in the Limited trim. The hands free foot activated lift gate is nice, the power folding rear seats, and the McIntosh 19 speaker premium audio system sounded great! On both instances I went to the dealer with the initial intent to test drive one with the legendary 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine. However, none arrived yet at the local dealership with that engine. As few of us to some of us know from reading articles in previous months the HEMI V8 engine is optional on the three top tier trims Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve. From my view Jeep should've made the HEMI V8 engine standard on the Summit Reserve trim since it's the highest trim. Historically, previous generation Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles had the 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine optional started with the Limited trim, but with this new fifth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee L Jeep decided to up the ante by having it optional starting with the Overland trim. I think the use of the piano black was a little too much for the interior. I assume Jeep did it like this to go with the flow based on what they saw from the luxury mid-size SUV competitors. In the center console area where the switches and dial shifter are, the use of some kind of metal finish could've been used or a combination of a little piano black and some metal finishes. Maybe in a mid-cycle refresh of this fifth generation of the Jeep Grand Cherokee L we could see that or if not maybe they'll do something like that for the next generation sixth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee L. The Jeep Grand Cherokee L is a mid-size third row seating SUV. There's an increase in length and the addition of three rows of seats, but it's not a competitor for the Cadillac Escalade or Chevy Tahoe. The soon to be released big brothers Jeep Wagoneer and Jeep Grand Wagoneer full size SUVs. Those will be the competitors by having the appropriate size along with features to compete with the Escalade and Tahoe. The Jeep Wagoneer will compete with the regular full size SUVs while the Jeep Grand Wagoneer will compete with the luxury full size SUVs. As for the Jeep Grand Wagoneer it beats the Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator and the other full size luxury SUVs in few to some categories. As for the Jeep Grand Cherokee L the three top tier trim levels Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve has the capability to compete with the mid-size luxury third row seating SUVs. In the Cadillac family the mid-size third row seating SUV they have is the Cadillac XT6. The Jeep Grand Cherokee L in one of the three top tier trims Overland, Summit or Summit Reserve will go up well against the Cadillac XT6 and other mid-size luxury third row seating SUVs. In this video the one feature I wished got demonstrated was the hands free foot activated lift gate. So far either twice or three times I saw it demonstrated in You Tube videos from other You Tube reviewers who reviewed either the Overland, Summit or Summit Reserve trims. I tried out that feature and it was nice after I test drove the Overland trim. This feature will be put to use for whoever has their hands full. As long as the key fob is with you just walk up to the vehicle, move your foot in a kicking motion and that's it. The lift gate will open. The lift gate will also close the same way. I currently have the third generation Jeep Grand Cherokee in the Limited trim and I have intentions on getting the Jeep Grand Cherokee L. However, I'm not going to get the first year of the new generation Jeep Grand Cherokee L though. I'll get the second year of the new generation so that it'll give me more time to put some money aside for it and also by that time couple more standard features will get added. When the time comes for me to get it I'll get it in the Overland trim nicely equipped with the legendary 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine. Should be GRRREAT!!

I would love to rent one for rood trip, but not sure I want to own one. The price, gas mileage and reliability scared me.
I’ve been a Jeep brand guy for years and was really looking forward to the new GC L and Wagoneer , but after seeing the Lincoln Aviator the Jeep is just not in the same league. In fact, the Aviator competes well with the Range Rover! I’m going Lincoln, especially with the extra freebies and customized service perks.
my car salesman has the aviator and he likes the GCL better ... I got the overland and wanted a Yukon Denali but they're on back order. Glad I went with the Overland and used my employee discount. Can't beat the jeep brand or copy it... I have speed, off road capability and a great smooth ride. Not only off road but enough space for my wife and 4 boys. With all that said .... its not much competition with it. #JeepGang ✌🏾
You neve looked at Jeep as being luxurious? Have you missed the WK2? The Summit (and, frankly Overland) trims were pretty up there.
What I don't get, why they need to leave the plastic on the top door panel. Everything looks so good (for an US brand) and then this...
Very Sensible review
It seems that these reviewers continue to miss the fact that even though the Grand Cherokee L is bigger on the outside, it’s actually smaller on the inside, where it counts. Specifically, it’s smaller inside, all around, in comparison to the Hyundai Palisade except for the interior height, where it’s fractionally higher. Ultimately, Jeep is going to have to lower their prices in order to compete with the Tellurides, Palisades, Highlanders and Pathfinders of the world. The middle is where they’re going to have problems due to price versus features. The upper end market should be interesting to see if customers will see Jeep as comparable to Audi, BMW, and Mercedes Benz.
Telluride is the one to go with. As quiet as a BMW X5, ton of features and good looking. Refresh is coming next year.
@@al151 …..It’s nice but I decided to go with the Palisade, it has a few nicer features, digital dash, two more speakers and no extra markup. I actually got mine for $450 below MSRP. I counted that as a deal.

I’ve owned Acuras, BMW’s and truthfully, their not that great. We currently have a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland and it’s plastics, leathers and it’s infotainment systems are awesome. We have been happier driving this Jeep than the Acura and it’s been nearly as good as the BMW. When you consider the price…. It’s hands down the best luxury SUV in the 5 pax model.

Has Jeep ever put a turbo in their Jeeps? Maybe this Jeep Grand Cherokee L would have been a good place to start, I mean obviously that V-6 engine is inadequate for that large vehicle! Jeep also needs to put better premium wheels on it to give it a more up-scale appearance. I enjoyed the review very much & agree Jeep is bringing back the American luxury brand although comparing it to a Audi Q-7 is stretching it a bit a little bit in my humble opinion but I must confess I haven't been in a Q-7 much less even driven one tbh & you probably have so I might want to keep my big mouth shut!...Cheers!
I agree. I don't know why Jeep brought the same engines from last generation over to the 2021 model year. The Hemi V8 will probably be a better pairing, and worth paying extra for. The only reason why I wanted to bring up the Audi Q7 was because of pricing and having similar features at $60k. The Q7 rides better, but not as practical which is why buyers may find the Grand Cherokee to be better. Some people have been throwing around the idea that it could be cross shopped with a BMW X7 but there's no way I'd go that far when talking about this SUV. However, it's not like the Honda Pilot, VW Atlas, or Ford Explore either, so it's offering a very unique package in a market that's become redundant.
From the third generation Jeep Grand Cherokee up to now, Jeep placed a super charger in the vehicles once. The outgoing fourth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk has a super charger. The horsepower power output is 707 along with 645 pound feet of torque. Before they came out with the Trackhawk, the SRT was their top performer. The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT came out in 2006 during the third generation Jeep Grand Cherokee. The horsepower was 420. The SRT performance trim didn't have a turbo, but it felt like it did though. It was all naturally aspirated which is good. The outgoing fourth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT is also naturally aspirated. Jeep increased the horsepower to 475. For this new generation fifth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee L, there will be other powertrains available. Obviously, right outta the gate Jeep has two available to start out with. The V6 delivering 293 horsepower along with 260 pound feet of torque and the legendary 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine delivering 357 horsepower along with 390 pound feet of torque. For the V6 I think the pound feet of torque should've been between 270 to 280. Then, it would've felt a little more jumpy off the line. I test drove it couple times and the V6 felt more jumpy off the line when put into sport mode. Other powertrains will be available. Either late this year or during one of the early months of next year a hybrid powertrain will get released. There might also be a turbo charged 6 cylinder engine. Based on info I've gotten it could be a turbo charged straight six/inline six engine and not a turbo V6 engine. There are six trim levels for the newly released fifth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Out of the six of them, three can be used to compete with the luxury branded mid-size SUVs. The Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve trims will do that. Those three trims have the capability of competing with the Cadillac XT6, Lincoln Aviator, Acura MDX, Mercedes GLE, BMW X5, Audi Q7, Infiniti QX60 and Genesis GV80. As for the Audi Q7, the Jeep Grand Cherokee L has more space in both the second and third rows. More head room in the third row as well. More cargo space behind the third row and more cargo space when all seats are folded down. The leather, piano black and metal materials in both vehicles are pretty much the same. In general the Jeep Grand Cherokee isn't known as a luxury vehicle, but I think now it officially entered the luxury territory. Jeep's upcoming and very soon to be released Jeep Grand Wagoneer is a luxury full size SUV. Years back before the Grand Wagoneer got discontinued it was a luxury SUV. Historically, that was the only luxury vehicle Jeep had. Now, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer will make a return. The three top tier trim levels for the Jeep Grand Cherokee L has the luxury status and all the trims for the upcoming Jeep Grand Wagoneer are luxury.

23:33 Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride still have more passenger room, even for the third row. Grand Cherokee L uses too much of its added length under the hood for potential V8 buyers. So it's basically wasted space with the V6, which actually makes a whole lot more sense with 21 mpg combined fuel economy rating.

Jeep is not an "American" company any more, it is owned by an international conglomerate and the vehicles are mostly designed by non-Americans.
It will always be an American brand.

Never said it competed with the Escalade. It could be seen as a more affordable alternative. It would also be a stretch to call it a true Highlander competitor when it’s 8 inches longer, 2 inches wider, and is 4 inches taller. Then when it comes to pricing the Grand Cherokee L on the higher end can be $13k+ compared to a Highlander Platinum. But I’m sure you know all of that since you’re so smart.

Way overpriced! Reviewer is trying to over sell this vehicle.
Regular Maintenence on Jeeps in NE U.S is around $100- hr and parts are expensive. A must is to check your battery once a year or before a long trip. Nothing works if the battery is weak. Jeep did pay for towing and a new battery while under warranty.
