Great teaching video as always, Phil! I can't tell you how much I've learned from you. I'm not a pro, but the knowledge I've gained from you and a few others has allowed me to take better care of my own cars, and to actually begin doing a few family/friends' vehicles on the side. I absolutely love it! Thanks for sharing all the great tips, techniques, and products with us, Phil. It really is much appreciated!
Phil you're exactly right about having a mini polisher/pad. My Griots G8 has the 3.5" backing plate and I picked up the 1" conversion standoff. For the weekend warrior it's a $20 upgrade. If I had a business I'd definitely have a dedicated 1" I could just grab.
I was searching for a prep and ceramic coat new Tesla model Y video and this was perfect even same color. I’ve got a brand new 24’ Model Y Performance Blue with white interior and am an amateur detailer that likes to learn how to take care of my own cars. This helps out a lot thanks.
Yet another great tutorial from Phil and wifey!!! I need some advise. Im the 64 year old lady that has been hounding you. I have finished the polishing phase. I did it in a patch work style as I could only do so much in a day. Ive loved all of it!!! Im ready to ceramic coat, but my SUV now had a thin film of dust on it from the dusty garage it's currently in. I was going to give it a "sponge bath" with rinesless and move forward with the coating. Im aware of the possible scratch risk, but it's 10 years old and I want to see the coating on. It's raining outside and will be raining for the next few days, but the temp is right (69-70 degrees). Humidity is out the roof as I live in south east Louisiana, about 40-50 miles from New Orleans. So, what's your opinion or advise on the sponge bath and what should I expect from the coatings behavior. Will it flash faster because of the humidity or slower? I would think faster. Thanks you guys!!!!
Hi. Thanks. I wouldn't use anything on it, I used to just use the air compressor and blow off any dust then coat it. Or you could just use a damp fluffy towel with just water and wipe it down gently. you dont need to use a rinseless.
Hi. Only one layer of CSL is needed. I talked to Gtechniq about that and they mentioned that putting two layers is redundant and it doesn’t make it better in anyway. Just wastes product. 😎👍🏼
Hey Phil, I like the way that ceramic coating goes on as well. But I just bought Kort UK 3.0 what’s your thoughts on that coating? I used it a few years ago and it turned out great, but it was not the easiest coding to remove. that coating in your video comes off super easy. Thanks!
Hi. Yes we loved that’s stuff Cquartz UK3 also. We used to use it a lot years ago. Thinks weird however. It was pretty easy to apply and remove for me. ua-cam.com/video/ERIXOuxHrSs/v-deo.htmlsi=YuCJ9KAM_S6-54E5
Hi. It’s the Meguiar’s panel prep. I don’t like using panel preps but I used it on this one. I forget why. We now only use the dr bealseys NSP primer polishes for coating jobs. That way we don’t need to use a panel wipe before applying a ceramic coating. ua-cam.com/video/2O1J1mD7MiI/v-deo.htmlsi=BC-fnAH1xLP-RfbG
Haha I hate those gas caps too that’s why I always use car wash mode. If not I’ll touch the handle and it’ll open too or the mirrors move 😂 great video like always 🎉
This was a wonderful presentation. As far as gas caps go, my '93 Allante's, '97 Escort's, and my '02 Thunderbird's gas caps have not worried me. However, my '82 Corvette's gas cap caused me heartburn, chest pain, and headaches frequently because of where it is located. I do wonder, why would a Tesla need a gas cap?
What towels do you use to remove the coating and why? I see a lot of low nap towels or really high and everyone uses different ones so I’m trying to figure out the reasoning
Hi. So my favorite towels have been the Kirkland yellow towels. Now they have yellow towels at Walmart that are 350gsm and they are also great. They are a low nap on one side and slightly fluffy on the other side.
Great video. I own a Tesla model 3 blue, same one in your video. Thanks for making this. I have 1 question though. Which Ceramic coating is better? GTechniq crystal serum or Adams advanced graphene Ceramic coating?
Thanks. I haven’t used the Adams coatings. But have never had a coating fail from Gtechniq. CSL is my all time favorite. I have vehicles going on 3 years with just one layer and they are preforming perfectly.
Hey Phil. I must say. Hands down the best work I’ve come across on ceramic coating 👏 awesome. I’ve been looking into ceramic coat my Tesla model 3. What are some good basic products I would need ? Very new to the process of polishing pads to use and compound . Whats something good to start with ?
Hi. Thanks. It all depends on what type of polishing you want to do. If you’re new to polishing I would go with either the Rupes line which is very easy to use, but a little pricey, bit.ly/411eORt or the Meguiar’s line with D300 Correction Compound and M210 finish polish. amzn.to/4bCgl7d amzn.to/3Sx2cPX amzn.to/3weLn4R
Hey Phil, you guys do a wonderful job with the videos, I just want to say thanks. My question is have you ever used the SPTA cordless DA polisher? If so what are your thoughts? Not sure I can swing a FLEX lol
Hi. Thanks so much! Oh yes! We have been using the SPTA cordless machines for about 5 years now. When you watch out other videos you will see us use them all the time! ua-cam.com/video/KKT5ha9nZhQ/v-deo.html
Hi. Both are great and have their place. I use super foam on initial details because it’s so strong. I use active foam for protected vehicles because it’s a ph of around 9 so it’s not as aggressive on the protection. I apply the coating on the applicator for each section.
Good video for polishing and showing the flashing of the coating, but wish you had offered more tips about the coating itself (application, beginner mistakes, avoiding high spots, etc.)

Hi, I'm trying to ceramic coat my car. I've bought all the tools needed. My only fear is overdoing the buffing and removing too much clear coat. Do you have any advice on how to approach buffing for a newbie?
Hi. Great question! So if you use a medium or fine polishing pad and a light polish you don’t have to worry about removing too much clear coat. That’s a very mild combo. You also don’t need to use heavy pressure or long polishing cycles. Just a few drops of polish, cover an area around 2x2 or 3x3 foot and work the polish in for a minute or less and that’s it. Usually that will help reduce minor swirls depending on the type of paint you’re working on. But if you are not concerned with swirls then it still is a perfectly safe combo and method to deep clean the paint and add gloss. Then just use what ever panel wipe you like and gently wipe the paint down and coat it. 😎👍🏼
Hi. Actually for this we used the clay towel. Our process is to use the clay towel after we contact wash it and while the soap is still on the paint. Makes it fast and efficient. 😎👍🏼
How long did it take you to detail this car from start to finish? Video editing always makes it look like it's done in a few hours, but of course it would be silly to think that.
Good job and nice product. you don't like putting on nose cover when you apply coatings why I ask I that I see some detailers cover their nose.is the chemical so harmful or not
Hi. Thanks. Some people are just sensitive to the smell of some coatings. I’m not. Plus I can open my garage door if the smell of chemicals is too much.
There is a lot going on here, could you give us a rough idea about what a service like this would cost? I expect to get my Tesla within a week or so and would love to get it treated like this. I checked your website and Richmond isn't very convenient to Raleigh.
Hi. Looks like you’re less than 3 hours away from us. Our ceramic coating services are listed on our website. Our 2 year ceramic coating service is $1200. Our 3-5 year is $1500 and our 7-10 year is $2000. Each include what you see in the this video. The cleaning and prepping, paint enhancement polish, and coating applied on the paint, plastic trim, wheel faces and all the glass.
