Can you make a video about millennial couture clients? Who are they? What do they buy? How much do they buy? Where do they wear their couture?
they are largely from all over asia, sw, south, and east, spending daddy's money.
Also celebrities, every once in awhile you'll get couture in big ceremonies like the oscars and the MET gala. Lady Gaga has an extensive collection, also I think Beyoncé, I've read about hers once but don't know a lot.
david lieske I’m from Kuwait, I believe after Asians Arabs (gulf) are the largest couture buyers and it’s not just a millennial thing for us I’ve had pieces handed down to me from my grandma/aunties. And we wear it at weddings of course!💋
@@claraprado5401 Beyonce does a lot of luxury, not so much couture.
@@lulualj6790 Ooh lucky! Have you ever had anything couture made for you? So interested to know what the experience is like xx
Please do a video on the “rules” of haute couture. I know a lot of people including myself watch because of how entertaining your videos are but I almost hate to say it they are also educational. 😬🙂
Right? Like idk anything about fashion but he'll be like "well the cut of this just makes it look too baggy in the chest area" and i'll just be like "ugh you are soooo right like.. soooo baggy"
Miriam Stenlund Some of his videos have more substance/analysis than others. I think he has a good mix of fun and substance.
@@nubbyrose87 ikr!
i saw the balmain show and i was like "is this gaga 10 years ago?"
Actually there was people doing memes with this looks and Gaga entrance inside the egg at Grammy.
@bl4ckmt4l everything about old Gaga is aesthetic, I miss those days.
@bl4ckmt4l I don't hate her, I understand that every artist must to change in order te appeal to new and old audiences, to no get boring and be forgotten, I like this new Gaga, I like how he changed her aesthetics but not her personality, however I would love to see again those old Gaga days.
Yes ! And no shade to the Born This Way era, it's just not appropriate for Haute Coutoure
This is a bit offensive... Gaga would never wear that shit
Everyone Else: SUPER BOWL
Me: Balmain Couture Roast
Patricia Daum hahah go awf 🆘
Balmain looked like Zoolander. It looked like a stereotype of what people think high fashion is. There didn't look like a lot of thought and emotion behind the clothes IMO.
Don Vu honestly, no wonder people don’t take fashion seriously. One of the most respected designers does this
I would love if u did like an intro to fashion series or something like that
@Rishelle lee reyna I would really love learning from him cause I sometimes have no idea what he's talking about
True because I feel like he expects us to know a little about fashion but I’m just trying to keep up 😂
Darling, your are out of focus... we can't see your beautiful face
I think he probably filmed this at the same time as his last video, both out of focus and same outfit.
@@shell2835 hopefully not the same horrible audio

Not to be gross and corny but these videos are my favorite and they literally always make me happy
People continue to look for "malice" behind actions that hide a far worse condition: ignorance. In the very worst of cases this ignorance is defended by a sad reference to the seemingly natural "imperfection" of society that only seems to be applicable in the face of accountability, or the possible accrual of social debt. There are darker models. Colorism is anything BUT a new concept ESPECIALLY in the fashion world, and we should call out a lack of social effort with the same criticism we do fabric choices. ANYWAY...your channel is great and I love the fact that you put a lot of effort, personality and opinion into your commentary. It really shows your personal style! Also, your videos with historic content are thorough and nothing short of educational.
this is everything
“I know her I know her, let her into the club “ 😂😂
Sooooooo Olivier was inspired by Shangela's "Christmas Queen Couture" from s3 for that skirt. We stan a RPDR fan.
Oh no Balmain what is you doing
Watching your videos is such a treat. And the way life's been toxic I really needed some relief so thank you.
Why are the Margiela models walking so... rough and fast? Not cute.
I have seen that a lot these days. Maybe the designers want that so people could focus more on clothes than the beauty of models or they just don't know how to cat walk in flats
They always walk like that for Margiela I think, it looks aggressive and maybe kind of like a fashion show on steroids or something
I think he may have sped up the runway footage for his editing purposes
In sorry for being kinda prejudice, but I can't trust on the taste of someone who has a Kardashian as Muse.
He does? lmao
@@mariashaki89 talking about Olivier Roustein.
Harsh but true
The Kardashians ruined Balmain for everyone else.
Pao Black It’s..... not that deep.
It's not blackface but it's blackfishing because I seriously thought they were dark skinned models.
I'm gonna use this word in future, because that's totally what it was. I was like, "yay! A designer of color doing his first haute show and he's showcasing darker skinned models!"
pink girl The last one, 16:30 - 18:00
I do understand that he meant for it to be stylish because the Caucasian models are painted white but it's still bad taste when he could gave painted models who were already dark.
Those Valentino gowns. Sigh. I wish I was rich. And a woman.
Just rich, you can rock a dress regardless of gender!
@@rl4195 You can. But what I wish sometimes is that if I were a woman. Those Valentino pieces are damn elegant and beautiful
Just got home from my straight friend’s super bowl party, and seeing a new video from you just saved my gay soul
Justin Westley u are super gorgeous
I agree with everything HauteLeMode is saying, and the insights & knowledge of what an outfit is doing from Luke helps me understand the visionary behind the fashion better than anyone I can think of..
how 2019 is starting from the individual, the hard work, the late night laborers that abide in high-end fashion fantasy.
Odes to them.
it’s kind of a soft cold touch to revolutionary that’s for sure!
It Strives for passion-for self expansion, I see to believe that Balmain is focusing on the rate of expenses for its labor power to be greater for the coming year.
Cold, bold, but soft and kinda chic
Ummm are we not gunna talk about the extreme resemblance between most of balmains looks and some of Alexander mqueens pieces
Bella mearns Such as?
An example - the white shell outfit worn by one of the darkened models, resemblance to Alexander mqueens famous shell dress in the spring 2001 ready wear,
We also some looks that copied other looks from jpg and mugler
@@imarchitecture McQ look 33 to Balmain look 5? Is that what you're referring to?
jukka kristian yes
Yep. Balmain has been ripping off other brands for a while, McQueen, Mugler and others
pier paolo and pat mcgrath are my dream team, honestly.
honestly where is the lie, they are amazing together
I really love the amount of effort you put into researching and talking about broader societal impacts and historical contexts. Keep it up!
I just found this channel a few days ago and have been binging videos like crazy! I've always loved red carpets without actually knowing anything technical about fashion so these reviews/roasts are funny af but also so informative :) Can't wait for the oscars red carpet video next weekend but so much to keep me busy before then, maybe I can actually learn about all these brands!
I absolutely stan your commentary. You are hilarious and seem super informed. I appreciate how you spoke on the blackface issue and talked about colorism. I know many youtubers who wouldn’t have brought it up. I subscribed.
I love how entertaining your videos are while also educating me on fashion.
I may never be able to afford these pieces but I can damn well enjoy looking at them accompanied by sassy commentary.
The description of the couture traditions kinda made me fall in love with what Pier Paolo does even more...creating utterly modern (in my mind at least) silhouettes guided by, and staying true to, these classic, traditional codes.
As one of your black fans, thanks for discussing colourism in fashion in your video. I don't speak for all PoC, but I'm not terribly upset they were painted darker. I'm just happy darker skin was protrayed as desirable. This world is far from perfect and we have to unfortunately manufactor demand for dark skin.
sis is as good at focusing his camera as he is at pluking his eyebrows
The videos keep getting better and better. Hope to see you more clearly in the next one.
I AM SO HAPPY!!! I’ve been waiting for you to talk about Valentino
I literally screamed when I saw this. I've been waiting for a week. THANKS!
I really enjoyed watching Valentino haute couture. God bless Pierpaolo.
Valentino has been the only runway show I've watched from start to finish. It is absolutely stunning.
Don Vu Iris van Herpen and Jean Paul Gaultier are the only good designers. Valentino is nothing against them
How much I love your work and your commentary it's just crazy
Honestly - I love that you don’t edit out your different takes lol 😂It makes me so happy every time
You really should make videos teaching about couture, or any rules you think are important in general so we can learn from you :) I ALWAYS love your analysis and I try to learn from them, and it would be easier that way. But please don't stop entretaining us with your opinions!
We love a blurred/out of focus queen.
I really wanna know what you thought about Guo Pei’s couture show. I loved it so much - what did you think???
HDS tbh it’s tacky.
@@TheEmpress1768 it's kinda tacky, but in a good theatrical way.
@@dabi5144 It's not memorable or made well.
it could be executed better and I the themes werent that new
It was dreadful :(( Models looked drab and almost uncanny valley. Some of the individual pieces are beautiful but the total over-styling and desperate grasps at “innovating” traditional silhouettes ruins it for meee
Hi! First of all, I like your content, it’s very educational, especially as a person whose interest in the arts aren’t necessarily within the realm of fashion.
I do have a note about the colorist issue; there was a similar problem with the film about Nina Simone, in which they cast Zoe Saldana, and essentially painted her skin darker, and gave her prosthesis. Now I understand this is a seperate issue, and that in film this happens all the time and it’s not really a problem when it comes to the replication of a certain historical figure, however it does bring about an interesting discussion surrounding the history of colorism in the US. And I’d find it very interesting that it permeates into fashion as well. I don’t think Olivier was Trying to be malicious, however there is still an inherently insidious nature about the application of darker skin as costume when one is themselves lighter skinned. The issue is very nuanced in this regard, and the lines are so blurred when it comes to fashion (and especially the balmain show which was so theatrical) because there is that purely performative element that separates it from real life. The bottom line is, no matter how messy, it’s true that these nuances should have been examined by those in charge, and speaks to a lack of knowledge about this specific issue amongst the elites of the fashion industry.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
The white people were painted to the extreme of white. If it were just black people, then painting them black would be a problem; however, that is not the case so it is fine.
Your videos are honestly super interesting and I love to hear your opinion on new trends/collections keep going! ❤️
When he was talking about Balmain and how costume doesn’t equal couture I understood that, but then how come Maison Margiela can make those looks which aren’t wearable and very costumey and Luke doesn’t talk about that?
I think Balmain wasn’t as well made as Margiela. I was not a fan of this season’s margiela, but it’s usually better constructed and well made.
The Margiela looks aren't wearable however they are not costumey, they are just EXTREMELY over the top and that's the point. The Balmain collection looks like an ugly pastel Halloween party gone to shit (besides some looks).
+HDS i always thought Margiela was a guest member on the schedule, which means they don’t actually have to conform to couture standards. but they actually are, def will talk about it in future videos!!!
HauteLeMode oh so if they’re not a permanent member then they don’t need to conform to the rules as much? That’s makes sense bc I was looking at Viktor & Rolf’s collection and thought it didn’t seem be that conforming as well. Now I’ve looked up about Haute couture after watching your video I think I understand a bit more abt it thx
haute couture has gone to shit I’m not gonna lie(there were some good ones though), but Luke which were your favorite shows?
Tashanna Foster Im not luke but my favorite ones were Iris van Herpen and Jean Paul Gaultier
Haute Couture needs a revamp because it has gone to shit
@@goldappleberry Iris van Herpen who?
This review was fantastic!!! NAOMI drags it over the finish line. WORD!!!!
I saw the Valentino show before this video and thank you for recognising the place for African Americans as a force in fashion. You did not have to, but the fact that you did gets my vote. It was also my favorite show (Valentino). The Balmain comentary, spot on your great. I'm 53 years old been in love with couture all my life, your really knowledgeable, be well!
He didn't mention African Americans at all, he mentioned black people as most of the black models are not even AA. LOL
AAs are not the only black people you know SMH 🙄
Literally got late for work watching this...soooo worth it 💛💛 love your analysis... and your are right valentino was to die 😍
If I may add a suggestion. Having Top 10 Best and Worst fashion videos would be so lovely
That Valentino Show was EVERYTHING. And Balmain...#yikes. Thanks. We were waiting for your take!
I would LOVE a Haute Couture video explains the distinctions!
This is giving me life!! Please do videos more often. ❤️
I would love it if you reacted to Amanda Steele’s video on her creating her line, I think you would give us a very interesting insight on youtubers fashion lines
If you put something (like a plant or literally anything large) on your chair you can set the focus to your spot exactly. 😊❤️ but even if you never fix the focus I would still watch because you’re the best
With Adut opening and Naomi closing (after all those exquisite African models), this showcasing will be remembered for a long while. ❤❤❤
The dear woman on the right looking at the ceiling at 11:37 ,is literally me during the entire balmain segment, searching for the haute couture in this whole avant garde collection. 🙆
Darling you are.... Everything!! You put a smile on my face with every video
i loved the blue valentino gown, so gorgeous

I learn so much from your videos! I absolutely love your commentary. Thank you 😘❤️.
The Balmain collection looked as if Olivier asked Kim K to help him come up with ideas. 🤷🏻♀️

Your waist is looking SNATCHED I love
I’m super interested in seeing a video of you explaining what haute couture is and the strict rules designers have to follow!! ❤️❤️
Erik Bacon have you seen Couture? Nobody follows any rules anymore.
John Orozco ya. But u gotta know the rules to break them. Idk the rules (hence why I commented) lol
@@erikposadas1584 It's mostly a club most houses can't be in anymore. Many members are provisional. Couture is really when fashion is made by hand, made in small quantities, made with expensive materials, and so on.
Brilliant ! You’re doing such a great job Luke !
Oh no Im too early! I can't view Luke roasting and flaming Balmain in HD!
Luke chats High Fashion🙌🏽. I've been waiting. Naomi is Queen #period

I like your videos so much ! They are very detailed !
Damn I loved the Balmain show. He took a risk and in my books it looks great. But your comments about it were hilarious 😁
You look so good in this video!!
I loooved Valentino show, it was so magical. Id be on look out for an photo album of this collection.
I'm not mad at Balmain to be honest.
Sure, the paper pearls were lumpy and the collection needs some tweaking here and there, but it was overall decent if not good. I can picture Tilda Swinton wearing some of these on an editorial or film...
Also: I've noticed Luke has a prejudice against liking "futuristic" fashion. There's a pattern with him and traditional dressmaking. Haute couture doesn't need to be realistic, it can be idealistic (or as some call it, costumey).
I was surprised he liked Iris Van Herpen...
Just give avant garde a bigger chance...
I think I can finally live happy after this Valentino show/collection. Period.
6:50 can we pause and acknowledge that jacket and the level of finesse that model pulled it off with. Christ my chest
Yessssssssss!! Was waiting for this
Pierpaolo Piccioli’s Valentino always makes me swoon... which makes me think, what was Maria Grazia’s role all those years? 😂
The irony of these Rita Ora Escada ads popping up on your videos got me kiki'n
I just love the fact that Valentino HC 2019 show has a lot of non-caucasian models.
It’s official. You’re my favorite
Yes, a video about the strict standards of Haute Couture would be appreciated.
Been waiting all day!
Am I the only one who was laughing at margiela's show?
Luke, have you ever looked into the fashion of Mike from Perfume Genius? He wears couture(?) outfits in his videos and he wears them so effing well.
Just saw this, great and funny review!😘 Regarding the black face at Balmain, did anybody object to the white face. This was definitely not negative, it was artistic imo. Do you remember if that show (2001?) from Victor and Rolf got any negative attention for their darkened makeup on all the models. It was stunning, meaning I was stunned, but didn't get that upset, I think....
Luke, pleeeeaaase can you review/discuss recent Viktor & Rolf collections? Because im in an active binge rn 😵
I would have loved a review on my favorite Gaultier :)
