In 2023, we have the SAGA THORSDAY FANS CONTEST and THE RODGE’S PAINTED MINIS GIVEAWAYgoing on all year. Every month, SAGA THORSDAY fans can earn entries in the giveaways and every three months Rodge will select a winner. For Rodge's final giveaway of the year, he'll count entries earned all year. The easiest way to get into the giveaways is through the SAGA THORSDAY Patreon ( / sagathorsday ) but fans can also enter for free through snail mail (drop me a line at rodgerules@gmail.com to get the mailing address and additional info on that approach.)
Monty and I had some difficulty coming up with "secret sauce" or "claim to fame" for a few of the factions. If you played a bunch of games with or against those, let us know what you think it is!
It will be great if you guys make some chapter links in the descripton of the video ;) i sometimes go back to your videos to get some advice. And here where you describe factions that would be extra helpfull.
I can see how that'd be helpful. Thanks for chiming in!
Ordenstaat all the way for me! Gripping Beast had such awesome models and I decided to just go with whatever the playstyle was. It just so happened that the playstyle fit me perfectly and closely resembled what I read about these guys doing during the eastern crusades. Highly recommend reading books about that.
That's great to hear! Some folks find em tricky to play. Their look is so iconic I'd like to give 'em a go someday!
Thanks for the compliments on Rockyboy's hearthguard - yes you are correct they are 3d printed, and I do dig the nostalgia factor of having the squad all of the same pose. There are slight variations in the arm angles, but I think of it like these dudes are throwing down a hakka challenge!
Awesome! I also have a bit of nostalgia for monopose figs!
Ha! Funny comment on my "aqua" Persian HG about looking good from 3-4 foot. That's my main objective when painting these days! A lot of the minis I've seen that look stunning up close under good lighting kind of disappear on the table, especially as many gaming environments have mediocre lighting. Conversely, I think mine tend to look kind of odd or even ugly up close due to the extreme degree of contrast, but when seen across the table all the key features are still prominent.
Hehe! I'm hoping to get there myself! Just spend way too much time on me figs!
The chariots are a pain to paint. :) And the reigns were done with embroidery floss.
Good trick, I'll try that next time
We could tell you put a huge amount of effort in, bud!
Rodge does it again!
Hehe, thanks Michael!
Hahah it's an Asian Successors Army
So for real reasons mixed between original Macedonian Phalanx units und cheap recruited units in Persia. Also a point of Mercenaries - they saw that Rome was on the rise and so they just copied their equipment and called it their own - that's why their amour and shield looks like Roman minis :D
Hehe, thanks bud! Goes to show with some extra sprues and an idea you can put together a warband fairly quickly!
Will we have a reviewed Saga Age of Crusaders factions difficulty table?
I'm planning on it! :)
Spanish! 💪🏻
Oh yeah! :)
My girlfriend and I are new to the game, and we were wondering if the Crusaders would be the closest to the War of the Rose era?
Crusades are the closest at the moment. There is a Hundred Years War era Saga book coming out later this year or next that will probably be a better fit when it's out!
Just saw this and the Age of Vikings counterpart. I, for one, don't care for these Age of (book) overview videos. 1) You have the tournament standings, painting contests, etc and it takes up the entire first half of the video. For me, I came to the video for an Age of Crusades breakdown, not a hype train on the contest winners. You might be better saving those for the back half of the video. 2) In your reviews for each faction (particularly the Age of Vikings factions), you were kind enough to give a decent look into the mercenaries and legendary units that factions can bring, but for the overview, you said explicitly you're not considering legendaries like (name redacted). Instead, you seem to have an overbearing view based on tournament meta builds for the factions. Tbf, I'm new to Saga, so maybe tournament metas just dominate over more casual lists, but your presentation seems pretty exclusively "this list (with one or two exceptions) is how you run faction X."
Atm, I'm working on my AoC Byzantine army with Lifeguard, 1 unit of Turcopoles/Eastern Nomans/Warriors, 1 unit of Western Knights, 1 unit of heathguard, 2 of levies (1 melee, 1 with bow). Haven't gotten any games in with them yet (unlike my Last Romans army), but that's just a matter of getting my opponent to the table. I'll try sharing on the Saga Facebook group how it goes.
In the end, I'll be checking out more of your individual faction reviews. Hope you can do more of those moving forward!
Welcome to the channel, Robert! You'll find we discuss a variety of topics in the Monthly videos with Monty!
