Another cool review! I've basically learned about 80% of what I know about playing this game from these videos and Saga Ohio podcast. I'd love to see people diving into the new Age of Invasions book but I recognize it hasn't been out that long. Something tangential, not simply because of this video but it did bring this thought to my mind again but, can we remove the term "gamey" from our gaming vocabulary? I think it brings in unnecessary scrutiny. Competitive games, especially those that involve such a plethora of factions, rules, and even variables boil down to managing effectively the things that players have direct control over such as list building (even for specific missions), base sizes (within a certain range), pre-measuring, movement, so on and so forth. Nobody should be called gamey or feel like their being gamey for exercising control over the few things that they can and are supposed to control. Just my two cents.
I watched this twice because I was puzzled by your description of Horses of the Maghreb. Warlord, 3 points of HG (2 units of 6), 2 points of Warrior (2 x 8 spears),1 point Levy Bows. Screen the cavalry with the foot units. Orders phase invoke Horses of the Maghreb Activate the HG. Manoeuvre round the foot units to get into Javelin range of enemy units. Conduct attacks. Activate Perseverance to let the HG retreat behind the screen. 34:15 ‘and come back also’ Does this mean you could interrupt your L+S move, attack with your javelins, then use whatever is left, to move back? It would feel a bit fairer to use HotM to attack, and then activate Perserverance to bring them back behind the screen
Another great episode Rodge. Overall, I agree with Mike's take on the Moors: bows over xbows, hit & run tactics, and using Torrent of Iron for the coup de grace. Also, the FAQ'd version of Discord is utter garbage; Doubts is, meh, and too situational; and unless you find yourself with 8 Saga dice to spend or if you have a specific plan in mind, Storm of Blades is too expensive (in dice and negative consequences for your unit). With that said, on occasion, I have used Storm of Blades as part of a combo attack against particularly resilient targets (such as warlords or HG) where the first unit's job is to soften up and leave 2 fatigues on the target followed up by a killing blow attack from made by a second unit. Depending upon the circumstances and the target, the first attack can be a suicide attack made by a severely depleted unit or it can be made by a full strength unit that makes the target until re-roll its hits in order to preserve the attacking unit's strength. Ideally, your opponent uses his/her defensive Saga abilities in the first melee, thus further weakening the target unit for the follow up attack.
Thanks for chiming in Shawn! Definitely got me thinking about Storm of Blades. I seem to have a predilection for 5-6 man "suicide" warrior units, so I could see myself trying to use it (two dice is quite spendy as you say, though)
If Hearthguard with javelins charge into attack, they can't rolls 1s can they? As they get a +1 to dice rolls. So Inspiration is useless for them on the attack unless they use a rare.
Just a quick interesting side note Discord in the german version of the game (that always releases after the english version so usually is the more updated ruleset) is an Order and NOT an Orders/Reaction Which makes the ability quite a lot more interesting really. At least in the German speaking countries people play it as that and its not too bad!
Hi Peeker! In the english version of the board it is an Orders as well, it's the FAQ that changed it to an orders/reaction. I agree that as an Orders ability, it'd be much handier!
It would be very interesting to hear about the Levantine Crusaders - if I'm not mistaken, you had a video only about the Baltic ones, and the differences should be significant.
I don't know why you dislike fatigue tactics on moors. If i play against Irish or someone who try to shoot me, I just discord him first 3 turns and then attack with my hg. I use hg with horse and black guard(they have never died in my game, it's the best defensive unit in the game for me)
You are correct...I should have actually LOOKED at that battle record and my mind completely slipped on remembering our game. Why, I don't know...it was a blast, Terry!
It's just incredibly interesting! I want to play for every faction that your guests talk about. This is very dangerous :) Thank you!
Hehe! I have the same problem!
Great faction review, enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching Graham!
@@RodgeRules really enjoying your show, thank you for 2021. I look forward to more in 2022
Rodge, I think you’ll find the faction is called “The Moops”.
YES! Love the Seinfeld reference... :)
Hehehe! Just googled that scene, hilarious!!

Thanks for commenting Brodi! I agree 100%!

Nice suggestions...especially the anti-Warlord one.

Whoa Mike. Didn't you lose to the Mongols? :D

@@michaeldemana6657 No worries Mike, just giving you some good natured grief.
Video evidence trumps all, it's now a W for the Moors!
