👴 Old Composer Reactions 🤘
the best part of this live video is them playing at 2x the normal speed and killing it and laughing about it the whole time
You'd think playing that fast is unsustainable but if you've ever been playing on stage when the whole crowd is loving it, the pure energy they project amps things up in a way I've never felt in any other situation. That crowd must have been absolutely thrilled every second of the show!
Live ska recordings are almost always better than studio, Streetlight possibly being an exception since their albums are so good.
Glad to see more Streetlight! I think you should do a long one. I suggest trying "With Any Sort of Certainty", "Would You Be Impressed", and "Here's To Life" to hit all 3 albums. 😁
There’s Keasbey Nights and 99 Songs too. Maybe Dear Sergio off of Keasbey and Hell off of 99.
I really like "If Only For Memories" as an interesting one to throw out there. "The Hands That Thieve" is fantastic too, I love when almost every line is harmonized, that backup singer is a real MVP. Streetlight is my favorite band and honestly I think they just got better and better with each new album.
The three of us, forty nights, moments of silence/violence
Here's to life is a really good one
Point/Counterpoint is one of their best musically and lyrically, too. Sheesh, what a band.
Ska music is all about the accented rhythms on the off beat that are usually played by a guitar or keyboard. Ska Punk bands typically play the off beat ska rhythm during verses (sometimes using a cleaner or brighter guitar tone) and then bring in the loud, crunchy punk energy for the choruses. Great examples of this include the song "New Girl" by The Suicide Machines and "Beer (Song)" by Mustard Plug.
I highly recommend you dive deeper into Streetlight's discography. Their music has been influenced by a shit ton of different genres from classical and folk to latin and jazz. They're easily one of the most talented and original bands still around in their scene today.
New Girl is such a beautiful example of what you’re saying, the verse and pre chorus percussion especially is so antithetical to what’s expected for the style and tempo. It’s been a while since I’ve listened / played THPS but you’ve brought it back lol
Streetlight Manifesto is such a fantastic band, tunes for every mood.
RIP Matthew Stewart
As The Footsteps Die Out Forever is a song by Streetlight that helped me through the darkest time in my life. That band is nothing less then masterclass.
The one that helped me theough dark times is A better place, A better time.
There are two types of people in this world: people whose favorite band is Streetlight Manifesto and people who have not heard Streetlight Manifesto.
their song "walking away" has one of the most unbelieveable bass lines youll ever hear, but that bassist is very underrated. i love how they can make that much noise and energy but have it actually work and sound really good lol
Do I dare open the catch 22 conversation here lol
@@samvakarian It's at least worth noting that this brings up the fact that there are three bass players to consider: Josh (C22 Keabey Nights & Streetlight EwN, Chris (Streatlight Keasbey) & Pete (Streetlight). All of them are really good.
I can hear it in my head so clearly
I LOVE that song
One of the guys from the band has been sharing your videos on Facebook. Please keep reacting to streeghtlight. Not enough people do
I think Streetlight reactions are the #1 thing I’ll click on youtube, above anything else ever, especially if I know the reactor will really enjoy them. But also consider doing lyrical breakdowns, because their lyrics are some of the most inspirational words I’ve ever heard. They don’t have a single song that isn’t really deep and inspirational, so combined with their instrumental complexity, they’re just such a mindblowing listen.
Lyrics or not, check out If Only for Memories, With Any Sort of Certainty, The Hands that Thieve, Somewhere in the Between, or even just the studio version of this song for more compositional brilliance. Or check out their older stuff like Keasby Nights, Here’s to Life, or Everything Went Numb for a less refined but more “powered up” sound.
When 'If Only in Memories' comes on in the car, I skip it if anyone is in the car because I'll cry.
You were gone, when we found you. You were practically surrounded; you were trapped... BUT the opposition stalled! Their blood ran cold! When they saw the look of love in your eyes!
Somewhere in the Between is a perfect album. Real punk shit.
Streetlight is definitely the best live band i ever experienced. The energy is off the charts
Seeing them live is an absolute treat.
They may be one of my favorite bands of all time tbh. They are a big band from the 50's disguised as a ska/punk band.
The latin/gypsy/jazz influence is insane. And the vocal quality generally stands up with any of the best hard rock to ever be sang. They are masters of the art of music imo.
Awesome. I love this band.
Streetlight, aquabats and getup kids are my three favorite shows I’ve been to. Streetlight was not even the main band, they opened for reel big fish. Stole the show
Seen them 16 or 17 times. Never skipped a yearly show (EXEPT COVID) and they never miss man they're just so good.
@@py_a_thon they are all world class musicians, you got the right influences on point also. Any lover of music should at least be able to appreciate the talent.
@@sp11raps71 I saw another reaction to their live show by someone who is a jazz musician. They were amazed at how solid this band's timing is one cohesive unit. These types of music are very difficult to play well.
Streetlight Manifesto is my all-time favorite band! If you want to do a long form video on these guys, might I suggest either A Moment of Silence immediately followed by A Moment of Violence (they should really be played as if they are one song) as well as Somewhere In the Between and With Any Sort of Certainty - those songs are a good representation of their growth over time (and are also my personal favorites 😉). My second suggestion would be the song Here’s To Life, and follow up with the B.O.T.A.R. version of the same song. I saw the BOTAR live performance at the Beacon Theater in NYC a few years ago and it was awe-inspiring.
I saw BOTAR in hollywood... Best concert ever
Beacon theater was an AMAZING show. Having the full orchestra section was glorious
Without a doubt the greatest live band I’ve ever seen. When the play with an orchestra (as BOTAR) it’s truly something special.
Seeing them live is a transcend experience!
Seeing this band live again next month, first time I ever saw them was still the most fun concert I’ve ever been to. Incredibly good band. Also, I’ve always felt Streetlight was different from all the other “ska punk” bands. They utilize all the brass instruments much more and they often lead the song. They have many parts that are more mariachi or jazz than reggae influenced. They just get called ska punk because it’s punk speed and vocals with brass. But I think they’re musically more creative and advanced than Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, Mustard Plug, etc.
Drove six hours to see them live a few years ago at the Pine Belt Arena (a shitty high school gym in New Jersey). They absolutely kept the energy up the whole show, which was considerably longer than planned - they started late so added a bunch of songs to the setlist. One of the best concerts I've been to, and they seemed like they genuinely enjoyed being there
They started out with a band called Catch-22 "Keasbey Nights" be a good song, than they kind of evolved into a more big band called Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution (infact many SM songs were BOTAR songs first), and finally arriving at Streetlight Manifesto.
Best band to see live. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen them at this point, buts it’s goosebumps every time!
Emo: The world sucks and I'm sad
Punk: The world sucks and I'm angry
Ska: The world sucks and I've got a trumpet
This band has so much energy and when I saw them live the crowd was keeping up. I should have expected it after I saw 10 guys started stretching in the crowd. With Any Sort of Certainty is my favorite of theirs but they have many good tracks.
I think you should! More Streetlight Manifesto please 💜
I think you should man! My go to’s are Moment of Silence/Violence, That’ll Be The Day, Watch it Crash, 40 Days, Would You Be Impressed?, The Big Sleep, Everything Goes Numb, actually any streetlight song would suffice! Lol
Glad to see Streetlight getting more exposure.
Another great song instrumentally and lyrically is Point/Counterpoint.
i think you should!! i fly back to new jersey for their home shows (where i am from) after moving to canada, been following them since 2004! BEST band live!!!
I'm just so freaking proud to see them bring you joy. All time favorite band. I hope one day I can manage to see them live. They're still relatively unknown from my experience and I just cannot recommend them enough. So fun. Every player is incredibly talented and they always give each person a chance to showcase their talent in their songs. I digested completely All or Nothing in middle school and it has been a love affair ever since. While yes they are Ska punk, I think they kind of exist in a class of their own.
Streetlight is a unilaterally talented band, and it makes me happy to see someone appreciate them. Thank you for this review!
You definitely need to do a long reaction to streetlight. They’re incredible. Some of my favorites are Three of us, would you be impressed and toe to toe,
Glad you chose this band. Do the long form please. With any sort of certainty, watch it crash, receiving end of it all, down down down to mephistos cafe.
I've seen streetlight live 3 or 4 times and theyve been incredible everytime. Highly recommend.
Also please do propagandhi. Anything off of supporting caste/failed states/failed imagineer
I've seen Streetlight live on multiple occasions over the years, and yeah, musically and energetically they're almost impossible to top. Their sound is an incredibly tight and refined sound, and they're a blast to see. Honestly, they're one of the best bands the ska/punk wave produced, and I'd love to hear more from them.
YYEEEESSSSS!!!!!!!! FINALLY!!!! I love this band so much, their music resonates with my soul and my heart. This is hands down their best song, and this is still one of their best performances ever. I can't wait for more, Geebz.
Please do a deep dive on Everything Went Numb, their first album. It isn't the singer, Tomas Kalnoky's first work, that was with Catch 22 (which streetlight later "covered") ((And to go into even more depth, his real first gig was a band called Gimp)) but I think it's their best collection of music. It has Tom's angst and his rebellious side, his worries, and his core values on display.
You definitely should. Would you be impressed and blonde lead the blind are my personal favorites.
You definitely should! "That'll Be The Day" is my all-time favorite Streetlight song. DO IT!
Love that song !
You NEED to watch the Streetlight Manifesto + Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution (BOTAR) live videos. They play their songs with an entire orchestra
Please do it!! This band is amazing
Watched a couple videos on btbam, watched one on protest the hero, saw he did a streetlight video, immediately subscribed. This guy kicks ass
I'm still here and yes, you defenitely should! Awwright!
The energy, was that devil may care punk energy. Guitarist/Singer was originally in Catch 22 and they both have a Keasbey Nights album version
I think you should! Definitely recommend A Moment of Silence and Dear Sergio.
You need to checkout the front man’s acoustic project Toh Kay. He plays versions of streetlight song on acoustic guitar with a classical style.
YOU NEED TO CHECK OUT THEIR ACOUSTIC PROJECT. It's called BOTAR or "Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution" and their music is insanely well composed.
I think you should. The entire show that this is from. Do it as a memory to the passed trumpet player that happened a few days ago....
Glad you like them and thank you for spreading the word about this basically unknown band.
Btw, the bass is literally what got me into them, they changed bassists a bit ago and I loved the old guy, the one you review, he just kinda goes nuts constantly!
In terms of a great intro with everyone playing a different part, the opening to their cover of Such Great Heights is always so fun to listen to.
I think you should! Do a whole album, every one is great
Their entire catalogue is brilliant…perfect music with perfect writing with perfect play with perfect…
These guys are incredible to see live, the energy in the room is absolutely electric! The entire crowd is moshing and skanking all the while SCREAMING every lyrics, so much fucking fun!
Mike Brown (Bari sax ) is probably my favorite person in concert. He brings the energy, he’s SO EXPRESSIVE, AND HES A GOOD DUDE! I had a crowd surfer dropped on my head at one of their concerts I went to (before they started setting up barriers between the crowd and stage so crowd control people could help, honestly this story could be one of the reasons they started doing that) my head double tapped the stage really hard, and because I was standing right in front of Mike; he took one of the monitors out of his ear, bent down and very clearly asked me “ARE YOU OKAY? I’ll get you out of this pit if you’re not.” IN THE MIDDLE OF SOMEWHERE IN THE BETWEEN. I assured him I was fine and PROFUSELY thanked him for his concern for me. (I did end up with a minor concussion but I wasn’t willing to get out of the front line spot I had gotten.)
PLEASE go look through the early albums like Keasbey and 99 Songs of Revolution, and check out Toh Kay’s solo work!
Greatest Modern Band
Ska/Punk is a fusion of Raggae and fast traditional punk music. But what Streetlight Manifesto does is dissect and add crazy amounts of riffs and melodies to their songs. Very talented band.
Thank you so much for spotlighting the bass! The best part of the best band ever (and I play guitar & trumpet)
You should listen to the Streetlight Manifesto version of Would You Be Impressed and then listen to the Toh Kay version. The singer records acoustic or stripped down versions of Streetlight songs under the name Toh Kay. Totally different vibes but both are great.
So glad to see you checking out Streetlight again. Something I think you’ll dig is “Smash the Magnavox” by The Blue Meanies.
I saw blue meanies back in the 90's .... "send help" 😉
@@gypsytarot333 They were so great.
Yes defiantly more Streetlight Manifesto!!
I'm loving the Streetlight Manifesto rabbit hole you are going down. Mephistos Cafe, Better Place Better Time, or Point/Counterpoint would be great next.
“The Three of Us”. Super horn driven. A huge sound!
Streetlight Manifesto is awesome! Glad to see you trying them out. They always pep me up and get me through the negative emotions discussed in some songs.
If you didn’t know, he reacted to The Three of Us months ago. That was his first introduction to the band. Best reaction I’ve ever seen to the band.
Yes long form full album reaction! I’ve loved these guys since their debut and Tomas’ previous band Catch 22. Saw them live in December, they killed it.
I've been waiting for this one since the last time you did Streetlight! So GOOD, and love your take on it. Thanks for the vid, hope you get more of this band in the rotation!
Same
+1 on a long form video of Streetlight. One of my favorite bands of all time.
Also 100% definitely go see these guys live, it's absolutely incredible!
This takes me back man! Thanks for the reaction geebz! I used to rock out to this when I was in my early 20s all lost and confused about the world! Nostalgia through the roof! I forgot how good streetlight manifesto sounds!!!!!
I see them live in a couple of months and I’m pumped!
Fishbone everyday sunshine!! That and sunless Saturday. One will take you church and the the other to the streets!!!! Please deep dive this deserving band.
I'm 40. Still remember like it was yesterday skankin' in the pit to both Catch-22 and then Streetlight back in the late 90s
I've seen streetlight live many times and they always have this energy, you can feel the electricity in the air in the crowd, so much fun
Please do more streetlight! I love watching you love them
There are so many other great songs to choose from in their catalogue. The Blonde Leads the Blind off of this same album, Oh Me Oh My off of The Hand That Thieves. They also have a cover album called 99 Songs of the Revolution which is amazing. Their covers of Such Great Heights, and Hell are both fantastic.
I absolutely love the Such Great Heights cover
love seeing a professional react and comment on my favourite band! more more more pls :D
The seperation between ska and punk in ska-punk: ska: fast off-beat clean guitars - punk: fast distorted guitars
After seeing the video: I've seen them more than ten years ago in Salzburg (Austria) as support-band for REEL BIG FISH and STREETLIGHT totally stole the show! They pushed the whole set to the limits and I was sweaty as i never have been sweaty before!
Absolutely check out streetlight. They are fantastic
I think you should. Check out ‘If and When We Rise Again’ it breaks down into a Russian waltz in the ending section
Dudes is one my favorite bass player. Fun bass lines.
My man! Thank you so much 🙏🏻
It's cool you pointed out the horn dynamics. Mad street credit geebz
I’ve watched a bunch of your vids on the prog meta reactions but idk how I missed this one! Streetlight has got to be a top 5 band for me
Streetlight is one of my favorite bands. They are perfection
With so much music to listen to, I'm very happy we got two streetlight reactions. Two bangers for sure "Point/Counterpoint" and "A better place, A better time" are two more that I can listen to endlessly.
I can't get over how much that lead singer sounds exactly like the lead signer from Authority Zero
Idk what's better, watching them play or watching your reactions to them. Thank you for doing Streetlight again!
I too, think you should if you haven't yet! My personal favorite song ever is by them, Somewhere in the Between. There's also a live performance of that one!
This reminds me of this band from some years back called FIREWATER I believe and the album was MAN ON A TIGHTROPE.
It's been YEARS since I've heard this. There were a few ska bands at my high school and one of them in particular loved Streetlight Manifesto and used to play this as part of a Streetlight medley. Brings me back to good memories. :)
Def gotta do “Blonde lead the blind”, excellent song and the ending horn section makes me tear up
Love Streetlight Manifesto! 'We are the Few' and 'A Better Place/A Better Time' are two that pop into my head right now, but there are so many.
You'd probably enjoy a related project, Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution (commonly called BOTAR.) It's essentially Streetlight but with an orchestra.
Saw your videos ranged from polyphia, between the buried and me, and now streetlight manifesto??! I had to subscribe at that point. Ska is life brother!!! "Would You Be Impressed?" is my favorite track of theirs.
loved em for longer than ive loved any other band. Streetlight is THE BEST band i've ever heard idc
I gottta recommend the Streetlight tunes Everything Went Numb and Somewhere In Between. Both of those tunes have incredibly luscious brass
So happy you came back to this amazing band
I think you should....
Everything went numb
Keasby nights
The Receiving End of it All
If Only for Memories
Unko always comin through with the great reactions!
Streetlight Manifesto did a couple shows where they performed with a full orchestra. Might be worth a reaction!
Definitely should. Going to see them in 2 weeks.
Awesome let's see another streetlight reaction.. Going to see them in a few weeks!!!!
Scoured the other channel seeing if you reacted to these guys and im so glad i found it over here
point/counterpoint my guy give it a listen it's perfection
What a killer performance. I share your enthusiasm.
Going to see them in a few hours, one of my favorite live bands!!
SO happy that you're doing Streetlight!
Thank you so much for more Streetlight, they're so awesome and I've been a fan for years
YESS, I WAS WAITING FOR MOREEE!!!
the sound of this is so clean. the board op and sound engineer are fantastic.
