Thanks for making me look so good man!
you are very welcome, thank you for being so kind to my friend Mike Emler
Im glad to see We's quality improving. Now, it's way past time to see a better heat treat. 59 HRC 20CV should never exist on a knife of this price and caliber.
Kizer too does horrible heat treats
What about Hinderer knives?
I thought they did 61 now.
@@kylekarcherthey have only two that were tested at 60.7 or something like that. Majority of them have been testing at 60 and below.
@@davidf3974agreed
Pre-ordered the Timascus version already.
Love Tashi designs but hate recurves so this is perfect.
That is really cool. Love the look. Thanks Jared
Now that’s a collector ! ❗️ Bang ‼️ two bangs 👍👍
I have 3 of those, I use them on the farm.
It reminds me of the mechforce kind of but that had inlays that were taped in
Got one on the way an can't wait to check it out
I like it when I see a knife and when I immediately know who the designer is. Although it is different from his other knives, you still see that something and you know it's Tashi.
Great job and look around man.
The price is absolutely ok for the obviously excellent workmanship.
Not my style, but a very cool design! I really like the hand satin that WE is doing. Thanks for the content!
Perfect clip.
Hey man…
This is a very tempting piece….
I tested my entire collection of flippers for lock failure and what do you know I found 3 knives that failed miserably on the spine wack test.
Now I have really big hesitations about purchasing a expensive knife and this one is fairly expensive 500€+.
Tell me maid, did you test this one with the spine wack test?
This would have been really awesome if they made it in M398…..🔥
No it wouldn't. Soft m398 is not worth the higher prices.
I really love the design, it's sexy af...and also out of my range for a WE
Reminds me of the CRKT Cottidae on steriods
Awesome looking knife with great action along with overall high quality we expect from WE knives, because it's an integral it adds to the price of the knife but not a fan of integrals in general due to that price increase and no real benefit to the knife vs regular scales in this application. Would like to see WE stick to steels that they can heat treat to get the best performance out of them and 20CV and M390 they can definatly do better. It's not horrible but at these prices they should be making sure everything is top notch. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.
Its horrible at those prices.
Looks like we'll executed piece. I don't like the squared out finger area though. I've handled several knives that take that approach and never found them very ergonomicly pleasing. On another note, I was shocked to see they used Vanax on the hyperactive that just dropped.
How is it well executed if its soft heat treat?
Hi huumans
Badass
I really liked this too. But $500+. If that was 300s. DONE. But new WE and integral would = 500+. It could become my “one and only” integral some day.
its not, the cheapest versions are literally mid 300s.
Its not even worth that kind of money due to soft steel.
k@@tacticalcenter8658
Beautiful piece by WE. I know most overseas OEM’s/Companies won’t use MagnaCut or incorrectly heat treat it but, this knife should at least have S90V or Vanax. The HRC of Vanax and S90V are very similar (59-61) so they could easily perfect those two steels. The only other thing I would change or offer, is rounded corners. I feel like it would make the knife a lot more comfortable.
59 to 61 Chinese s90v is not great.
@@tacticalcenter8658 Unless they’re using a different protocol for their heat treat (something completely different from what Crucible prescribes), 59-61 HRC is optimal for S90V. Also, S90V is uniquely made by Crucible, which is American. There’s no “Chinese” S90V, it would have to be called something else and I’m unaware of any knock off S90V. Believe it or not, there’s specific steels that Chinese OEMs purchase to use in their knives/designs.
@@alexferrara9287 China does not use good protocols for optimal microstructure. 61-63 is optimal for s90v. You can also do secondary hardening with s90v as well. Crucible protocols are typically basic and often not for knives themselves.
@@alexferrara9287 let's take for instance, 3v. 3v typically uses secondary hardening with Crucible's protocols. But theirs a different way that's better for 3v. And its not from your god Larrin.
@@alexferrara9287 Roman Landes Heat Treatment recommendation:
Now this is what I would recommend for heat treat cpm 3v:
1st preheat: 500-600°C, equalize
2nd preheat:800-900°C, equalize
Authenize: 1060-1070°C, equalize, soak 30-35min
Quench in Oil preheated 60-80°C
Cryo: immediately after cleaning, minimum -80°C or lower soak 30min
1st Temper: 150°C equalize, soak 2hrs, quench in water
Cryo: immediately after temper
2nd Temper: 180-200°C equalize, soak 2hrs
should give you 60+ and a fine durable grain. RGDS Roman
This is why I would do it like this.
The "receipt" suitable is for a vacuum furnace (Quench with maximum pressure) or a regular cline, but surface protection has to be assured.
Salt bath will cut the soak time approximately by 1/3 and thus give better aust-grain.
The preheating steps will assure the the austenization steps can be done quick. Quicker speed >> smaller grain
Authenization temperature is dedicated to dissolve Chrome and Molybdenum >> fair hardness and some enhanced "Stainresistance" is to be expected.
The vanadium will remain in the steel bond as a compound of carbon, hence aust-grain cant really grow
The oil quench is suitable for any steel out of the air hardening classes. The thin cross sections get higher hardness after quench (greater volume fraction of martensite) and a less stabilized volume fraction retained austenite. (The volume fraction of RA can be expected (near guess) between 20 and 30% or even higher)
Warping of the blade shall not be an issue with these materials.
If you have done a lot of hard mechanical work before hardening (milling, grinding,)then do a stress relief so warping gets less likely.
The cryo needs to be done as quick as possible below -80°C.
RA tends to stabilize rather quickly after the quench (some reports speak of minutes)
The longer you wait, the less efficient the transformation to untempered martensite will be.
And a minimum of -70°C is necessary to get enough stress into the micro structure, so the transformation (RA>>Martensite) process can restart again.
Extensive soak time is not necessary since the process runs at hypersonic speed.
But still there will be remains of RA that need to be addressed by the 2nd cryo.
The first temper is a low temper so the remaining RA is stabilized at the lowest level possible and at the same time there is enough stress relief in the martensite that has been built and furthermore the transformation from tetragonal to cubic martensite is started.
The water quench speeds the whole thing up and avoids precipitation of embrittling phases.
Then the rest of the remaining RA will be attacked by the 2nd cryo (usually the RA will drop below 5% volume fraction) so burr formation is less likely.
2nd temper will now temper the untempered martensite build up by the cryo and bring the blade to a fully tempered martensitic structure with a low volume fraction of RA and a fair amount of carbides undissolved.
Of course there is the question why not temper it at 540°C?
First of all, if you don't have access to cryo then this is your way to go.
In my studies of edge stability I did extensive work to compare secondary hardening and low temper with cryo.
The results (reference is my graduate thesis 1999 Munich University of Applied Sciences) I found considerable higher edge stability with the samples that had low temper/cryo The material used at the time was ATS-34 all with the same charge and thus the same condition of austinization, but with different temper cycles.

Not even watched it yet and I’m dribbling like a dog looking at a 12lb stake
The same in magnacut at 63 64 would be making me in a dream 😍
Crucible (CPM) and their distributors have all agreed to not distribute MagnaCut to Chinese manufacturers and to prioritize sales to American companies. But just like 20CV, in a few years, I’m sure Crucible will agree to sell a fvckton of MagnaCut to them for the right price. Then we’ll all be sick & tired of all the boring MagnaCut knives. Lol
@@mikeappleget482magnacut has issues Also. Inclusions in the steel from rolling issues. Plus many are having heat treatment issues. Ht issues are getting resolved as places learn from mistakes and wasting money on failed examples. But rolling issues still happening. Apparently they know now and expect newer batches to have less inclusions. Worst roll out of a steel I've seen. Yet so much hype and so much secrecy hiding this information from crucible.
@@mikeappleget482 magnacut has issues Also. Inclusions in the steel from rolling issues. Plus many are having heat treatment issues.
We knives in general are soft. They would never ever go above 62, just like every other brand that got magnacut.
I wish I could afford this knife. 😪
For collectors maybe $515 to $683 is reasonable for a knife. For something I could lose while hiking or working outside, no way. The flipper that I found at Goodwill for about $3 will do everything that I need a work knife to do and if I lose it or break I won't cry about it.
wow really? whodda thunk. thats like saying "well these expensive formal clothes are nice but for something that could get dirty or damaged hiking or working outside, no way. My cheap clothes will do everything that i need clothes to do and if they get dirty or damaged i wont cry about it". ...obviously? who tf would take a knife like this hiking lol. thanks for the grand insight of "cheap knife cuts just as gooder and is cheap". idk why people are always going on and on and on and on and on and on and on about how their $2 knife can also cut things. I can assure you that no one needs that explained. No one interested in a knife this expensive is looking to it as an alternative to a $2 knife. those 2 things are not directly competing with each other and are not in any way being purchased for the same reasons.
WE has another knife coming out in Vanax, so they may be ahead of you on the steels Jerad. Would like to see you check one of those out if you can.
If they added a wedge to the blade similar to the Brown FSD that could also be finger flicked...take my money, take my money, TMFM!!!
superb knife
How is it superb if soft heat treatment reduces its value. Yet it costs so much?
500$ for a pocket knife is crazy. Lol. Ty. What is better tspof Kadet pro or hapstone rs. I think I know what you will say. Is it that much better?
That clip is NOT reversible. Even if it did fit on the other side, which has a different screw size, the asymetrical design of the clip itself would angle it upward, possibly poking above the frame instead of lengthwise along it.
It comes with a second clip for the opposite side.
But I suppose that does mean that clip is not reversible.🤔
@@bwd8664Well, that part you didn't tell us. Thank you.
its very nice... damnit... but i wouldve liked a middle finger flicking option..
is nice, however ridiculous expensive for what it offers. CV20, really? when there are much better steels out there now such as CPM Magnacut and Vanax this knive is way overpriced. With this budget Reate is a much better option.
3rd
Overpriced tat.
I don't think I need a knife that costs more than 10 dollars
Then you probably don't, I prefer a knife that holds an edge stays super sharp, and can actually be resharpened
For me, it's hard to beleave that somebody can use a 350.00+ knife as an edc. Or you have a lot of money or a little crazy. For me an edc is under 100.00. 14C28N or Nitro V is more than enought for me and it do the job perfectly. Over 250.00, its a knife collection @@NeevesKnives
@jocemarine6247 well it's not really about having alot of money, I know what you are saying but when you know how to sharpen and your passionate about quality knives, your going to use it appropriately for it's intended use, quality materials don't get as messed up and last much longer. Just like your good with Nitro v and 14c28n which I to love as well, someone else would say why not just use a no name stainless steel, all I need is 440. We all start somewhere over time when you have a lot of knives you find our you can use them all you want and hardly hurt them since you can rotate them daily. If it's your only knife then yea you will probably wear it out faster but will still last a long time, I've seen people carry CRK for almost 10 years, so for a 550$ knife he got his money's worth, also if you don't beat on it you can sell and flip
9:35 do you really honestly think they would do other steels better? They won't. Any steel that's high wear steel will be run soft. And instead of using a high toughness steel done right, they will continue to go with hype brands of steel and run them soft.
I would hope so, I don't think it's impossible
Not trying to be a jerk, just trying to help. It's not in-tag-rul, it's in-ta-grul.
It's neither.

Both pronunciations are "right." Let's argue about something important like the proper pronunciation of "tanto."

Both ways are correct pronunciation. Google voice as well as multiple educational speaking UA-cam channels say that both ways are correct and that there isn't one better option over another. The word that Jared actually needs to re-evaluate is Serge Panchenko's name because in every video he pronounces it "Pan-cheek-oh"; when it's actually pronounced just like it's spelled which is "Pan-chen-ko".
Good review, but your titles are sounding a little metal complexy
Beautiful but pricey......a large plain Sebenza goes for about the same price.
I'd rather have a sebenza
Come on man…tell me if WE OAO passes the spine wack test?
the question. how does china make such good knives. a knife like this made in usa would be 250. has no investors except the goverment.their not looking for 90% profit just a good living. pluse they play the long game
This isn't good, its using soft 20cv. That reduces its actual value.
pricey and nice
