😂Another reason i dig your channel is your brutal honesty , or the balls to actually say what you feel.
That's great because there's so many "yes" men out there that like everything and won't fill you in on the cons...

It's so weird. I was buying knives every week spending stupid money. I then bought my grail and I have no want to buy any knife really at all. I still watch some videos and a lot of knives are on my radar but none of them have ever been put in a cart. Point being...the best way to see the return on investment and true value of a knife I vote buy you're grail if possible and it will save more money in the long run.

If you get the Pyrite lite, make sure you don't brace your palm against the full end of the knife when you close it. The blade pokes out the top back of the handle when it closes. Mine bit me twice before I switched my grip.

I picked up an EZ out drop point sheepsfoot in S30V for 30 bucks. Thinned out the grind on a Tormek-esque sharpener. Really fun lightweight lockback and has a significant section of serrations (yeah, I know everyone hates on them but they definitely have their uses) that I end up using a LOT when it comes to stuff around the property.
The sedulo is a nice “in between” option if you can’t decide between a bugout, griptilian, and mini-grip.

the gerber 06 auto is pretty good, it’s a slow auto but it’s a tank. the savvy, assert, fastball, and the gator (mainly the 154cm version bc it’s such a killer deal) are all good gerber folders. but other than those models i agree with you. even gerber’s fixed blades mostly suck

Got a set of the XL skinny goat scales for my Deka - it is now my favorite choice out of my rotation. I really liked the Deka as it came from the factory, but the OG scales make the knife essentially a perfect EDC option.
Edit - I should also say that applied weapons tech makes excellent scales. I threw a pair on a native… so good. You can’t go wrong with scales from either company.

Benchmade was always a little expensive, i have a few, but they have gone crazy with there pricing, it's crazy, and the James Brand knives look so cool and like quality, but like jared said they are even worse overpriced than Benchmade, some companies are price gouging, soyderco knives went up, but not as bad as others, I'm a Spyderco fan boy all the way so i will always try there new steels and there heat treats are tier 1, second to none, so it's worth a little extra$ for a little less premium materials for the price, because your$is going into the best heat treat on the market, they are bleeding edge when it comes to edge retention and new steel

Benchmade has never been cheap, but the way Benchmade's prices have developed in recent years is crazy. One recommendation that I can really make with a clear conscience is the Maxace Orion. Tsprof is the best sharpening system I've had in 40 years. I've had the Tsprof Kadet Pro for some time now, the system is simply brilliant. I prefer to sharpen knives freehand, but if I want the highest precision, e.g. when reprofiling edges, then the Tsprof Kadet Pro makes it so easy, precise and fast, it's a real pleasure. By the way, I use Atoma diamond plates.

Cjrb is def one of my favs. Got 3 of them back in 2022ish and edc 2 of em still. Gobi, crag, and rampart. The ram is nice and slicey but the d2 is rusting and detent is very weak. But the gobi is very comfortable to hold, still slicey, rpm9 is tough for (at the time) around $50, and got a nice acute tip. And the crag. Good thick blade for heavier duty tasks. Had to chop a 1 inch by 1/2 inch notch in a 1x4 for cable managing a shelf i was installing and didnt have my chisels so the crag was my savior. Also used it to shave/chop a door frame for a new lock installation. And after all that, it still had a respectable edge with that rpm9. And even though im a sweaty plump guy, they have either no rust or hardly noticeable spots. Definitely recommend their rpm9 lineup for those looking for budget friendly options. Id just stear clear of the d2 options. The rampart isnt bad, just not as exciting as the gobi or crag. Plus iv seen some nice models appear since my purchase years ago.

The Gewrber paraframe has been good - in the way you need an absolute beater that doesn't need to be sharp but sharpens easily. Sounds counter productive but sometimes using a knife as a tool doesn't mean cutting boxes and being ultra sharp allll the time. Could throw that thing against the wall sharpen it up with the under side of a ceramic plate and your good to go.

The 0450 was terrible. I had issues from day 1. The bevel was WAY off. I sent it back to them for a resharpen and it came back with an even worse grind. So I put in the work to sharpen it… Let me tell you- Sharpening the 0450 is horrible without removing the blade. Even then, the blade geometry is horrible. Even cutting an apple was AIDS.

I have a question, but it's not quite on point: I'm trying to decide between S30V vs Spy 27 on a Spyderco Manix 2. I'm somewhat new to knives, so I don't understand if the difference is significant or minimal. I can get a new S30v version for about $120.00, and $150.00 for the Spy 27 version (blue G10). The S30v version is a matte satin finish, which I don't like as much as the Spy 27 version which is a satin finish. Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated.

What about the ZT452? The big brother. I quite enjoy that one. While I can definitely see a smaller version not working well.

it has a lot of the same problems the small one does, thick grind and edge geometry and jared’s knife had issues with the heat treat but i would hope they’d fixed the heat treat

For the Hogue, wouldn't that light detent make it dangerous to pocket carry? If you're doing something active and it jiggles open in a pocket... yikes!

Those three gravity knives all seem the same in the video, hard to tell other than the blade grind/type that you mentioned

IV never had any luck getting some goat scales. They email me every now and then about release a couple sets of certain types. Seems they pretty busy. Their scales look great. I want some for my Ritter houge and deka. I'm how big a difference putting aftermarket scales on benchmade stuff. Makes them 100% better fs

Bear Opps has also gotten busted mis-labeling their steels!
Unfortunately, I've also gotten some really crappy knives from Bear and Sons, the parent company of Bear Opps. Terrible quality control! Sad, because I'd love to support one of the few affordable USA made knife companies.
