The Old Gays are a group of four charismatic older gay men-Robert Reeves, Mick Peterson, Bill Lyons, and Jessay Martin-who have taken social media by storm with their heartwarming and humorous content. They share their lives, experiences, and the wisdom gained from decades of navigating the complexities of being openly gay through times of significant societal change. Their videos, often filled with humor, nostalgia, and candid discussions about LGBTQIA history and issues, have resonated with millions, fostering a greater understanding and appreciation for the older generation within the queer community. The Old Gays not only entertain but also inspire and educate, bridging generational gaps and advocating for visibility and acceptance.

These "older" gays paved and lead the way for the way we live today.
The young queens prancing around in feathers, beads wearing hot shorts have these fine gentlemen to thank for. These men sacrificed everything for us. We should salute them. We should respect them. We should honor them in every way possible.

Thank you for chronicling the stories of our gay ancestors and transcestors, who had to bear the trauma of AIDS and the constant fear of being outed and/or ostracized. And thank you for reminding us about heroes like Elizabeth Taylor, who embraced the community without judgement, and changed the trajectory of AIDS research and public perception.

MC, as an older gay ( not as old as them!) I understand where they are coming from. They -WE-are fonts of knowledge that the young gays could easily toss in trash. Glad you are honoring them! Nice work my dear. 💜💎🌈💋

I LOVE Jessay! He is willing to be transparent with things that are hurtful and damaging. He lost his “home,” he is the last family member from his era. He opened about. One of his most painful memories, and ends with his growth.
    Thank you Jessay.🥰😊

Hello my dear. 50+ year ally here. First gay man I met was my cousin and his boyfriend. I was very young, but I knew I loved spending time with them. Of course my Aunt would never accept and always said they were roommates. The history of these wonderful men and others in the community is vitally important for queer youth to hear from. I got threatened just walking into a gay bar back in the day. I lost a lot of friends, and still have friends from back in the day. Queer history is so important. Thanks for doing this. If I make it to Palm Springs I must have a cocktail with these lovely men!

My husband and I have been together 10 years, 4 of them married. We are in our mid 40's, (45 for me tomorrow actually). As we get older we think about our community and the importance of having good friends around us and doing more in our community. These lovely gentlemen are a huge inspiration. When I see them come on my screen I always try to watch and listen to them. It's the very least I can do to show them they are respected, loved, and celebrated. Even though they have no clue who I am. We owe that generation a HUGE thank you and hug for what they have gone through and more importantly a thank you for being a part of where we are today. Thank you The Old Gays! ♥

Loved this so much. I've been following those guys for a while and love hearing their stories and histories. I have to say that even when I was in my teens and twenties, I never had the ageism thing, in fact I really preferred and enjoyed befriending older folks, gay and straight, as I found them much more interesting. I wanted to hear everything about their lives and their histories and I'm still that way, even though I just turned 69 myself. I'm one of those people that could not care less what people think about my age, but I do realize there is lots of ageism towards older gays especially, with words like "trolls" etc. these guys are so full of life and so positive it's inspiring. I never thought I would get older lol, and always took care of myself but health problems started about 15 years ago and it's been one thing after the other, but I fight it as best I can. I think of all of those lost in the AIDS epidemic in their twenties and thirties and I realize how lucky and grateful I am. This was so well done and thanks for all you do.❤

I've suffered from psychosomatic illnesses. Once I was in so much pain that I couldn't walk or even stand up for 2 days. I laid on my bedroom floor for 16 hours until my roommate finally called 911. I spent the next day and half at the hospital. I've had others with different symptoms. All of my symptoms were _very real_ to my body, but my mind was creating them. If your mind can make your body sick, why wouldn't someone be able to make themselves better with it as well?

Matt, you and the old gays together! I love this SO much! Thank you for interviewing them, and I agree that it's nice to hear a bit about them each separately. I feel like I know them just a little better now. I think it's so important that we get our stories out before we pass and they are potentially lost! I wish that our queer communities (particularly gay men) were a bit more inter-generationally oriented!
