    Lovely playing! I am on the lookout for a new set of pups for my mid 90's MIJ tele. Stock pups are underwhelming and microphonic. My tech suggested these and at first I was unsure; I like vintage, low output.....classic tele tones. However, these sound great and very versatile, especially if you use the vol and tone controls a lot.
    I usually gig with a strat and Les Paul, and this combo covers alot of sonic ground. I can see a tele with a set of these being enough! One less guitar to lug about, and no more endless tweaking with controls on pedals, guitar and amp, which I was doing to compensate for the change of guitars, mid-set.
    Thanks for your demo dude, much appreciated!

    The first guitar I ever bought was a used 69 thinline Tele reissue that someone had put Quarter Pound pickups in. Absolutely killer. Every other Tele I played after that sounded thin, but 30 years later I gravitate more toward the vintage sound. I currently have a Nash T63 with a telephone pole for a neck and the standard Lollar Nash set. I won't touch a single part on it unless it breaks. Best tone I've ever had, but you can't beat the QP set if you want more bite while still sounding like a Tele

    I guess I like these but my question is arent these just a lil 59 but not with the hum ?

    • @JoePearsonGuitarist
      @JoePearsonGuitarist  4 роки тому

      I think the fact that these are a true single coil makes them slightly different. I’ve not used a lil 59, but I have used other single coil sized humbuckers and listened to them on SD’s website. I think that any humbucking variant has less high end sparkle and the general character is different. I think these are more like a hot P90; about as fat and hot as you can go with a true single coil. That’s not to say they’re better, but they have that inherent “singlecoilness” that I tend not to find in true humbucking pickups. Also, to me, humbucking pickups have a “softer” feel, whereas single coils feel very “immediate”. These definitely have that unforgiving single coil immediacy.
      Hope that made sense!

    I have a Japanese 70’s Tele reissue. The neck pickup squeals like crazy (not in a good way) at any sort of volume. As such I typically avoid the neck, and I’m growing irritated with my constant bright sound. Do you think I have some cheap pickups on my Tele, and do you think swapping these out with the Quarter Pounders would sort this out?

    Great playing dude!I swap my texas specials on my american special Telly, with quarterpounds, question for you, though i'm a real blues/country lover/player, i find so provocative to play hardrock/metal with a Telecaster, so i swap to quarterpounds, but, obviously with high gain ( Marshall 1923 combo ) single coil noise is evident, gain pot at 12 o'clock ( distortion channel ) and a blackstar ht booster pedal for solos, stuff like Whitesnake, Ozzy ( Jake E.Lee era ecc. ), how did you setted your dsl for this video?Thanks...

    • @JoePearsonGuitarist
      @JoePearsonGuitarist  5 років тому +1

      DARIOSKYNYRD63 hey thanks! On the higher gain settings on the video, I had the gain on about number 8, so quite high. Although there is a little bit of hum as you’d expect, it wasn’t particularly noisy - but I wasn’t running the amp very loud at the time, so it might get worse with more volume? I think the quarter pounds are wax potted to reduce hum. Could your hum be coming from somewhere else in the signal chain - like pedals or power supplies etc? I’ve also noticed that hum can get much worse depending on the electric supply - some buildings seem much noisier than others!

      @@JoePearsonGuitarist Thanks for the answer Joe!I just discovered, huge hum in my Marshall 1923 85th, comes from the loop effects where is plugged the TcElectronic "flashback", if i disconnect the loop, hum disappears, remains only the normal distortion hum, also with humbuckers guitars, Dean; Epi LP, Strat HSS, Schecter, so i changed cables, but nothing changed, and i also discovered the same thing happens in my Blackstar ht-20, plugged another "echo" Hotone and the same things happened in both amps, maybe that huge hum is in my brain...for now i'm playing without loop! bwahahaha

    Hum sorry I don't get it. What's the point of replacing the pick ups on a top of the line guitar ? Isn't it an instrument that's supposed to have an irreproachable sound or at least the sound you were looking for in the first place ?

    • @JoePearsonGuitarist

      Some people think like that and it’s fine. Others want to fine tune instruments to get what they want out of them. Sometimes you can make changes just to try something out - a new experience.

      I definitely think you can - some might disagree, but I really believe most of the shaping happens with the amp and any pedals you use. @@JoePearsonGuitarist firstly, nice playing, mate. truly. for me the quarter pounders sound a bit overwound and kinda break up too much in the high end. this, of course, is a matter of taste. i'm sure-EQ-ing brings definition back a tad - i am weighing of having a Twisted Tele in the neck and then getting a slightly more underwound SD humbucker pup in the bridge like a Pearly Gates Tele or a Little '59. i wouldn't use a Tele for Hi-Gain stuff; just maybe along the lines of ZZ Top at most. The other option I am weighing is putting a PAF style Humbucker in the neck and something more traditional Tele in the bridge to get that Keith Richards feel...DECISIONS DECISIONS LOL
