Good move on the "Quarter Pounders". Very rich and much fuller... I LIKE IT!!
Thanks Bill, I like them more and more. Fat juicy tones... lovin’ it :-)
Paul, after hearing the change out on your tele, I'm thinking of doing the same on my tele. I really like how fat they sound. Did you install them or have them installed? Thank you!
Oh I’m scared of all things DIY.... so I paid the guitar tech in my local guitar shop to do it for me. I’m glad I did, because he babbled something about a base plate, conductive copper tape and bla bla bla.... I was lost after that. But I actually do recommend the swap.... my video didn’t really do it justice, so I’ll probably stick another one up, really demonstrating just how fat sounding they are. Cheers Bill
I like both… the problem you end up with when you pick your favorite sounding pickups for every guitar is that you end up building the same guitar over and over again. If you already have a great sounding classic tele why not build something with a little more output 👍
I love the Quarter Pound bridge PU. I didn't know the Tele had a bridge pickup. lol. But in the middle position, standard neck and Quarter Pound bridge, I heard something wonderful!
I'm just about to put SD pups on my 2019 Prof. Tele. After listening to this I'm favoring stock Fender pickups in a big way and so I'm going to run my axe without change... THANK YOU!
Hi Robert. Delighted this video helped you in your decision. I agree that these Quarter Pound pickups are a matter of personal taste. I feel the same way about my Strat, i.e. I was considering beefier, fatter sounding pickups... but I’ve decided that the stock pickups are part of the guitar’s charm, so I’m keeping things unaltered. Cheers for watching 👍
@@paulstaffordcook8799 UPDATE. I may have changed my mind, again. Opps!
I like how your missus makes you play in the cupboard but you still look happy and sound great 🤠👍
Yes, she shuts me away, bolts the door and leaves me in there for hours in a room full of amps and guitars. What’s a man to do! Thanks Paul, appreciate you watching 👍
Good player1 Thanks for this I'm looking at a Tele with these and another set of different pick ups. Well done, concise and clear.
I’m doing the same thing. I was so mesmerized by your playing style that I had to rewatch the video. lol
Wow, what a lovely compliment! Thank you Ian, you’ve put a large smile on my pale Scottish face 🤣👍
Hi Paul, always enjoy your clips. I use Katana's too so love your tones!! That tele still sounds great...but I preference is the original pickups as I love 50s relic teles like that!!
Beyond the Quarter Pounders killing it, your playing and tone are supberb! Thx again for sharing!
Great video, as I've just ordered the exact same pups for my Tele. I had a set of Seymour Quarter Pounders on an old MIJ Fender Strat back in the 90s and absolutely loved them, and this video gives me a great demonstration of what to expect only Telecaster when they arrive tomorrow. Thank you, fellow Scotsman! Again, great video.
Thank you Billyrossjapan! And I hope you enjoy your new Quarter Pounders, I’m sure you’re in for many happy hours of noodling! Cheers for watching, appreciated 👍
That clip at the end... Man... Very tasty, great playing! Was looking for a test/review of the Quarter Pounder, but I found a true gem. Thanks!
Thanks!! I've been wanting to put the quarter pounders in my harley benton tele. Now my mind is set. Seriously thanks!
clean: stocks,...….dirty: the Duncans. I have the Texas spec in my tele paul, the best of both worlds
Yeah, I’ve not actually tried Texas specials yet.... Anyway, thanks for watching 😀
was gifted these pickups in an old beater guuitar, i was blown away by the absolute balls on these single coils. really high output
Yeah, I’m really loving that bridge pickup, and I don’t see me ever swapping it out.
Fantastic playing! Thanks for taking the time to make and post this comparison.
Great video, and playing. Thanks for showing us the pickups in context and not just showing off your playing, like most demos. I actually purchased a QP set for my guitar yesterday. 🤙🤙
Thanks for taking the time to comment Michael, appreciated. Now I’m intrigued to see how you get on with your pickup swap! You’ll definitely notice the extra output... which is really evident in this clip. And then the added fatness and eagerness to lean toward a bluesy break up.... Anyway, would be delighted to hear from you in a few weeks, once you’ve had a chance to form an opinion 😀. Cheers Michael
Paul Stafford Cook So, the QP set is installed and exactly what I was looking for. The stock set was SD Alnico Pro Tele and lacked the mids I needed. The QP set sounds fantastic without overpowering the sound. Thanks again for the great demo, you should be getting commissions on sales from SD!
The quarter pounder sounds incredible on the neck. Great choice man that Tele screams
Thanks man, I appreciate you watching. Yeah, I’m really loving that Tele and I’m so glad I made the swap from Stock to Seymour Duncan QP’s. Cheers 😀
I preferred the tone of the stock pickups. The quarter pound was hotter output but overall tone "quality" didn't do it for me. I would just push the front end of the amp to get a cruncher sound. However, I do use tube amps mostly. Might be useful with my quilter amp though.
Loved it, actually I like the custom in the bridge and the Qpounder in the neck - but above all, I really like your playing mate, well done!
I’ve been going mad trying to decide what pickups to transform my tele with, really glad I found this video and have ordered some quarter pounders ,thanks and all the best bud
Ah, thank you Colin, delighted to hear my video had a wee influence in your decision. Enjoy your new pickups - I’m sure will 😀👍
Deciding on which bridge pickup to get for my telecaster and I stumble across this, well you've made my mind up for me big yin. The stock pickup in my telecaster is the Seymour duncan jerry Donahue lead, it is ear shattering trebly and has to go.
Once again your channel has been a massive help to me in my guitar journey. Cheers big yin!
Cheers Derek 👍. Yeah, I think the Quarter Pound Tele Bridge should be just the ticket, because it trades that extra treble for some warm fatness instead.
Instead of replacing the pickup, change the capacitor to a 300mf, that should attenuate the treble.
Unreal playing my friend! I think those quarter pounders are the best things I’ve ever heard. Warmer, more full and more output! Badass. I just ordered them
Quarter pounders all the way. These are going in my Baja
I'm inspired by your fine playing! The Quarter Pounders are a noticeable upgrade in vivid tonal color and I imagine feel/response.
Thank you Groove Monkey! Delighted you liked my playing, cheers mate 😀
Rad playing dude. I gotta say I almost like the stock ones a little better. And I even have a 1/4 lber in one of my guitars. It’s a tough call.
Hi dwb. Thanks for your compliment, appreciated. Yes, you certainly lose some twang with QP’s.... although I love what the QP’s do for a bluesy Crunch Tone. Thanks for watching man 😀
Nice comparison. Just bought a MIM Telecaster Player Plus. And although I liked the sound, when I plugged in my old Dean Eighty Eight, I was surprised how much more I got out of the Dean. Have been looking at these Quarter Pounders or the Hot Tele pickups, but I think I like these QP's better. Thanks.
As you , I took my Merle Haggard "Tuff Dog" and replaced the pickups with the Quarter Pounders , AND I LIKE EM' ! (Everyone said that I made the guitar worth less money , I ain't gonna' sell it , gonna' Play It !)
I have loved the 1/4 Pounders in a Tele or a Strat since they came out in the eighties when I first put them in my 62 Telecaster Custom. I really like the Classical / Celtic influence in your style and licks. Some really interesting phrasing in a lot of your licks. Cheers!
Thank you Norm Rivers! Delighted you picked up on a Celtic / classical theme on some of my licks. I guess the Celtic thing comes from being a fan of Rory Gallagher and also Mark Knopfler. I’ve no idea where the classical influence comes from... and yet I can definitely hear it 😀. Thanks for watching my vid 🙏
Amazing my friend! i think u nailed it! the SD QP made the tele come to life!!!! Outstanding and soulful playing!!!!!!!
Regardless of subjective pickup preference, good video.
Thank you Charl, you’re right totally subjective. I’m a blues guy at heart, so the Seymour’s work for me. But for country twang the stick pickups have the edge. Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks for the awesome demo , I think I’m sold on the 1/4 pounders. Incredible playing by the way.👍🏻👍🏻
Wow! I really like the QP sound!
For once I’m going with the Pounders. Really suit that guitar well.
super clear your test. I have 2 questions 1) How about hum between one and other set? 2) the quarter pound are hum cancelling in middle position? thanks
Hi Carlos. Hmm.... to be honest I never really noticed hum from either pick up set.... I’ve used this Tele at gigging volumes (for example in the sound treated rehearsal rooms), and hum has never been an issue with either set. The only guitar I own that has definite hum is the P90 equipped Gold Top. That’s to be expected, as P90s are well known for hum. As to whether the middle position on the Tele being “hum cancelling”? No idea I’m afraid. All I can say is that this Tele and it’s QPs perform without excess hiss/hum. Sorry I’ve not been much help here 🤣
excellent video! finally, someone who compares apples to apples. thanks for posting.
Currently torn between the Quarter Pound vs Hot Tele sets... I'm new to the tele hybrid picking thing and gotta say you've got some crazy good style going on. Very nice :D
I've got a tele with vintage spec pickups and they sound thin with a high treble spike when the note is picked. It doesn't matter how much gain I put on, the treble spike is still there.
After watching this I'll swap them out for the quarter pounders too.
Thanks for the great vid. 👍
Thanks ST! Delighted you liked my vid. As regards the QPs (especially the bridge), I absolutely love mine. 🙏
I've a few teles and now moved to a farm where I am building my own. The quarter pounds seem to be good to drop in my 95 standard, so I can pass those pups down the line to homebuilt one. Unfortunately, the one on the bench is ready for a pair of HB's so may go the extreme P-Rails route there. Great playing, clean, quick and informative. Cheers.
Thank you for this video. Your playing and the guitar sound great. I am a quarter pound pickup fan in Teles, and the Strats. But have you tried the Rio Grande pickups? A Tallboy in the neck position, and either a Halfbreed or Muygrande in the bridge position.
Thanks man, I’m glad you enjoyed the vid. I’ve never tried the pickups you mention, but I’ll do some UA-cam research, as you’ve got me intrigued 😊
holy smokes man great playing. also the quarter pounder sounds amazing i usually like more high end, but those beefy lows sound so great. i’m building a bullet mustang and thinking about using one of these for the neck pickup
Thank you Jeff, delighted you liked my playing. And good luck with the bullet mustang 🍻
I dig those quarter pounders.
Thanks Bobbo, I can’t put that guitar down since having them put in! Cheers for watching the clip :-)
I think they sound great mate. its got almost a p90 feel without being to punchy, lovely.
Definitely depends on what you want out of a tele. I think QPs stray from the traditional tone a bit, but are essentially a great way to hot rod a tele without getting into humbucker territory.
I'm typically a SD fanboy, but I prefer stick here (and in my MiM tele), though if I get a second I may get a set of QPs.
As a side note, I have QPs in my bass (PJ setup) and they're fantastic. Completely brought that bass to life.
Yeah, maybe the ideal thing is to have two Teles, like you say - one stock, one modded 😀
@@paulstaffordcook8799 or three, or four, or five. One with P90's, one with humbuckers, and maybe two with single coils. Put those super sweet sounding pickups back in there that are getting the to die for Tele sound that is so hard to achieve, and get another one to put the Seymour Duncans in for great distorted sounds. Your playing by the way is incredible. You've got some moves in there rarely seen.
Dude I got some QPs after seeing this demo. Thanks for the vid! It was spot on. Just waiting to get them installed now. 👍
Thank you Alexander, delighted you got something out of this clip. I’m sure you’ll definitely notice a fatter, broader and warmer sound, with noticeably higher output. Not high gain, but certainly a bluesy P90 type quality.... I just love rolling the Tele’s tone on the bridge all the way off, then rolled back in a tiny amount, to let some treble bleed back in..... fat, warm and bluesy!
@@paulstaffordcook8799 awesome. Cheers for the tone tips Paul. You need to do more vids of you playing. Spot on!
Replies appreciated!!!! I bought a new 129 squier. I sanded and posished and rolled frets, neck feels 20 yrs old now beautiful!! But pickups kinda suck...I'm not too knowledgeable with pickups...but I need a very loud EXTREMELY clean neck....and a bridge that growls overdrive, not distortion....pure breakup, high screaming but clear output.
Interesting set of requirements..... I can only comment on what I’ve experienced..... so my guess would be a Seymour Quarter Pound (or Hot Rails) in the bridge..... but no idea for the neck. I’d worry that a QP in the neck might not be clean enough. Anyone else have any suggestions?
I love the Seymour Duncan bridge pickup... neck pickup is a little dark for my taste... but obviously a fuller sound... thnx for the video it definitely helped me
As always bro you sound amazing, I know of the quarter pound pickups for bass, oh my do they sing, but combined with your playing, my gawd they’re just gnarly!!!!
You could make any pickup sound amazing...
I think you are on right track with the QPs for blues...but the stock ones are perfect for country...
after 14 months with my player series telecaster, ive been considering for a pickup "upgrade". this is a great video, and youre helping me to evaluate my options. thank you! ps: great looking guitar n great playing too!
Well thank you Zaaid, delighted you found the vid helpful. And it’s always a joy to read a compliment on my playing, thanks Zaaid 🙏
@@beefyburt i did, im using a pair of quarter pounder with roland katana 50w mk2. gives me more versatility on range of songs from GnR to RHCP and sounds great on drop tune as well. but i'd reckon you enjoy your stock pickups. theres nothing wrong, as long as it delivers, whatever tone and sound you want, sir!!
I've been struggling whether buy'em or not. You made the decision easy for me. Sure as heck i'm buying Quarter pound set. Just ordered them. Thanks man! Great playing also! Greetings from Finland.
Hi Jouni. And greetings to you in Finland from a rather rainy Edinburgh Scotland. Delighted you’re going to try the Seymour QP’s. As regards the bridge pickup, I’m absolutely delighted with it and I don’t see me ever changing it. Around a year after this vid, I decided to try a humbucker in the neck. Not because the neck QP wasn’t good….. more that I just wanted to have something even meatier in there. So for me, I’m now very satisfied and delighted with that guitar and won’t change it. Best of luck with your QP adventure 👍
Very nice playing. I just ordered the Quarter pound for my neck but the lil 59 stacked for my bridge.
Sold! Getting these for my tele now, thank you I appreciate it.
Excellent, thank you Bobby, delighted you like the sound. I’m not endorsed by Seymour Duncan (or Boss for that matter), but these pickups have really transformed that guitar, it’s now one of my favourites! Hope you enjoy them when you get them installed :-)
I am more of a strat guy but just picked up a cheap Tele and was looking around utube for better pickups. You just sold me, new pickups on the way and more mods to come..lol. ..Great playing love it.
Thank you Alan! Delighted my wee video played a part in your decision! I certainly haven’t regretted the swap to the QP. 🙏
Duncan’s for sure. I love a higher output tele pickup.
I have both hot rails and a quarter pounder. When I use the hot rails I usually use it with the coil split option. It's kind of a perfect sound. But I like the quarter pounder also. My favorite pick-up for now is a Texas special in the bridge. The problem I found with the hot rails it doesn't line up very good on the low E string on a Telecaster. On a recording you can't hear the Low E very well.
Nice playing! IMHO I prefer that rich sound of the Quarter pounders, find them more versatile and they seem to take to gain better!
Very nice video! Day and night difference... At the end it's personal taste. I love the warmth of the quarter pound.
Hi Precise Audio Blog, just catching up on my comments. Thank you, delighted you liked the vid. I’m still loving them, particularly the bridge pickup. I don’t see me ever changing that one. As regards the neck, I’m changing that to a PAF style humbucker (Bare Knuckle Stormy Monday), with a heavy relic’d nickel cover. Review to come shortly. Watch this space 😃
@@paulstaffordcook8799 I'm upgrading the pickups of a Squier Jazz Bass Classic Vibe to the Quarter Pound. So exited to see what happens. Cheers!
Love those Quarter Pounders!!! More muscular sounding, exactly what I am looking for my tele hybrid model
Thanks for watching Sebastian. Yeah, particularly that bridge pickup 🙏. I just love it and I don’t see me ever changing it.
I actually like the SD's. Seem to be thicker like P90s with a bit more output, fullness, rounded sound, and bite than the original pickups. It's a keeper.
Thanks Shaun, I’m with you on that. I’ve just put some hours in with the guitar this evening, and it’s really fat sounding. Really liking it so far. Cheers for listening to the clip :-)
Thoroughly enjoyed the demo. I have been thinking of a set of these for a while, may pull the trigger, on the bridge at the least. The bridge is killer, seems it would be great for classic rock, blues and modern country. If I did go only bridge, I'd have to think about what I'd pair it with...or just go Esquire. Wonderful playing, thanks for posting!
Hi Michael. Yes, I can certainly recommend that bridge pickup. In fact, I don’t see me ever changing that. The neck however.... I have now swapped that for a Bare Knuckle humbucker! A bit radical, but you’ll see and hear it in my latest video. Anyway, enjoy your own dilemma. Cheers for watching Michael 😀
Paul Stafford Cook looking forward to seeing that and learning which BK model you went with. Thanks for the reply, have a great evening!
Especially th QP in the bridge is formidable! But with your skills everything will sound killer. The tone comes from the inside... :)
The quarter pounders add an almost semi hollow body tone. Very warm in comparison. It doesn't cut through with the highs as well, but it's kinda awesome in it's own way. Perhaps with an EQ with more parameters, I could see the quarter pounders being superior in some ways. But it's all subjective really. Oddly enough with the settings you chose, the quarter pounder seemed less metal and more jazzy.
I replaced the bridge pickup of my Nashville Tele with a quarter pounder as the stock noiseless pick up was almost unusable when you added any gain to the equation, very happy with the outcome. 👍👍👍 Nice comparison vid👏👏👏🏴
Thank you KMick P. Glad you’re happy with the outcome. And thanks for watching my vid :-)
I built it in my Fender 52 Tele after the stock pu in combination with the ashtray bridge was way to thin and twangy for me. Now I have twang with balls...reminds of Brad Paisleys tone. The volume knob is VERY effective with this pickup. Especially with the vintage bridge It can do everything from twangy rock to Brads cut through the mix muscle twang...very versatile pu!
I still think about a louder pu for the neck (maybe a hot for Tele) that can keep up with the qp
Hi Paul, very good job and nice playing ! Can you tell me if the bridge Quarter pounder is not to noisy ? I can't ear the single coil hum on your video, what 's your secret ?
Thanks
Hi Gérard. Thanks man, delighted you liked my playing. Yes, firstly, it really isn’t noisy at all. Noisier than a humbucker? Mmm… maybe a tiny bit? But nothing worth worrying about. It’s WAY quieter than my P90 Gold Top (which is my noisiest guitar in terms of hum). But maybe the real secret is my volume on these videos…. I’m always at bedroom volume 👍
Great video comparison! I really liked how you laid that out. Thinking of getting some of those for my G&L. Awesome playing!
Thank you Christopher! Delighted you liked the clip. And I’m still really enjoying the Seymours so I’d certainly recommend them. Cheers for watching :-)
A very well structured review!
Great playing!
The Quater Pound seem to be a hotter PUP in general.
Now this sounds great ! Very nice demo . Tele + Katana + 1/4 pounder = oh ya man . Nice playing , great sustain too .
I will put these in my tele project when I save some money. Thanks for the demo!
Great demo! Quarter pounders sound great.
Your comment got me thinking.... I reckon you have a point actually. Whilst I DO like the new Seymour neck pickup, I can see how Tele fans could feel something has gone.... any other Tele fans out there feel the same way? Feel free to comment / share 😀
NICE PICKIN' MAN! I like the 1/4 pounders... But I'd also like to hear the test through a fender amp... Super, or Deluxe Reverb... thanks!
Cheers Bradley, appreciate you watching. Actually, that would be quite an interesting test, and I wonder if my conclusions would change? Who knows. I don’t have a Fender amp anymore, only a Katana and a Marshall. Anyway, cheers Bradley
Awesome demo. I'm digging this pickup now. Thanks.
Thank you My Fingerboard! I appreciate you watching, and delighted you like the Seymours. Cheers
Great video - clearly demonstrating the contrast of the two pick ups. I had quarter pounders in my Tele and to this day, they remain my favourite pick ups. Some grunt and punch without going over the top. I found if you turned down the volume and tone a tad, you could get closer to a traditional Tele sound. I have been thinking about getting Quarter Pounders for my Jag. I would like a bit more punch, but at the same time, I love the tone of the Jag. I am in two minds. I was told that I would have to wait up to 9 weeks for Jag Quarter Pounders because I am left handed and in Australia. So I brought a Framus D-Series Pro, left handed guitar with SD Distortion Humbuckers (bridge), SD Vintage Single Coil (middle) and SD Cool Rail Humbucker (neck). OMG it was like hoping out of a Honda Civic into a Ferrari. What a difference pickups make. I think I am going to have to upgrade my Jag now and patiently wait the 9 weeks. 😀
Thanks for your comment Keith. Interesting regards your pickup swaps 😊
This was helpful. I’m trying to see what I could use to upgrade an sx tele, which has good bones but so so pickups. I think stock so far for me, as I’m mostly a country player.
Hi Se Sa. Delighted you found the video helpful. I was just reading someone else’s comment a moment ago, and they suggested the Seymour Duncan Stl1-b.... which is apparently the “Vintage Broadcaster” set. They seem to be a half way house between vintage twang and a fuller sound.... Anyway, hope you find what you’re looking for. 👍
Im considering maybe Hot for Tele neck and Quarter Pound for bridge? I like less push in the neck and more clarity. BTW, loving your videos Paul!
Delighted you like the vids Che. And yes, I reckon the Hot for Tele will certainly get you the clarity. Cheers Che
Well it's the Seymours for me. But more importantly, that is some beautiful playing, Paul. Just love that.
Came fir the pickup shootout, stayed for the sublime playing. Oan yersel ma man.
both great in their own territory. stock for pickin and jazzy neck. QP for rock and blues.
Hey Paul, hope you're doing well. Sorry for commenting on a not so fresh video. Based on your experience, it's that crazy to combine a neck humbucker like a 59 on a Tele with a Quarter Ponder on the bridge? Any advice or word will be more than appreciated. You're a wonderful player, thanks for your tips, mate. Cheers
Thanks for that lovely compliment Damián, appreciated. If you’re asking about the Seymour Duncan “59 model”, then I’ve not had any experience with that one. But about a year after this video, I DID swap the neck single coil for a humbucker. I chose the Stormy Monday by Bare Knuckle. It’ll be very much like the “59 model” from Seymour, i.e. vintage low wind. And I love it. In fact I don’t plan to any more changes to that guitar. I’d it helps, here’s a recent video showing this Tele with that set up ua-cam.com/video/S-SIiXLt0oE/v-deo.html
Paul. I actually liked them both!!! The Duncans did have a obvious volume boost but the tone is also changed. A shade or two deeper or darker. Certainly a step away from the twang. But not bad!!! I currently own a 1999 American Standard tele that is staying that way. But I am also currently assembling from parts another Tele. I was going to go with something like the Dimarzio Chopper or Lil 59 from Seymour, but I have to say that after watching your video I may just jump on this set. I know you spent a lot of time making your video and I think you did a great job.... thanks much. Bob in Utah.
Thank you Bob, lovely comment. Delighted you liked the vid, and good luck with your “Telecaster customization project” 👍
Man that playing is stellar! You seem like the epitome of the old saying that "the tone is mostly in your hands!" You could make a cheap, trash guitar sound great. Love that right hand technique. Anyways I enjoyed the comparison & thought both sets sounded great!
Hi Paul, I love this video. How does this pick up compare to the Hot rails?
Thanks man, delighted you liked my wee vid 👍. Actually I’ve not tried the hot rails.... my research into them led me to suspect they’d be a bit too “rock” ...... whereas the QP seemed to be still in the “Telecaster” world, albeit fatter. Cheers for watching.
Great video! Sounds really nice with both the stock and replacement pick ups. There is quite a lot of extra girth and weight with the quarter pounders? I’m looking at upgrading the set on my tele at the moment. I don’t want to go with really high output pickups like the Hot Rails set as it will take away a lot of the essence of the guitar; after all, the whole point of having a Tele is to get a bit twangy. The stock Fender pick ups just sound too thin and feeble, but I think these quarter pounders might just thicken up the sound whilst retaining some authentic twang.
Hi Don, delighted you liked the video 😀. I think you’ve summarised things perfectly..... i.e. the QP’s are definitely still in the Telecaster ball park (albeit towards the fat bluesy end of the spectrum), whereas the Hot Rails take it too far in my opinion. I’m not endorsed by Seymour Duncan so can say honestly that the QP’s have transformed my Telecaster. And to prove they can still spank and twang, there’s one of my recent videos “Guitar Lesson - my licks Part 3” where the intro clip has them sounding pretty darn country. Thanks for watching Don
I think the SD's sound fantastic, all positions. However, it sounds less like a Tele, more like a Gibson with humbuckers. That's not a criticism or a bad thing, it's just the "new" relic Tele has adopted a different sound, a different vibe altogether, capable of going in unknown, but amazing directions.
For me, I might have first considered 2 x SD Broadcasters on this relic, and put these 1/4 pounders on another Tele. But you don't know till you try.
Hi Paul, great video and amazing playing. I'm torn and would love a bit of insight please if possible. I play midwest emo/math rock crossed with old school emo and pop punk so need a bright but heavy tone. That's why I use a telecaster to begin with as it has all the properties I need and love in how it sounds. However I have 2 player series, butterscotch and black on black and I would like to kid the black on black one and use that as my main guitar. I'm torn though as I mentioned because I dont want to lose that brightness and clarity but also want higher output pups....
I cant make my mind up between these specific SD's, fenders twisted teles, and SD hot teles... can you shine any light on what could be the best choice - I mainly play on the bridge for the grit and extra gain if that helps. I really like how these sound but dont know whether to go for fender for a more authentic sound? Or do these keep their telecaster-ness lol?
Hi Nigel, sorry for late reply. Yes, I reckon both the QP and the Hot Rails would work great. The QPs definitely retain more of the classic Tele twang mind you.
Sounds gorgeous..big improvements to ..bought a lovely Tele special but those Texas spacial picks are horrible ..like those Seymour Duncan and suit a bright tele to ..
Thanks for watching Anthony! Yes, I can certainly recommend the Seymour Quarter Pound, particularly the bridge.
Love the comparison! Do you know what model of Custom Shop pickups those are? I'd like to get a set. Thanks!
Thank you R E. I’m not 100% sure (maybe 80% sure).... but I remember the small print at the time (2017) said something about a “Twisted Tele” in the neck and a “Nocaster” in the bridge. Hope that helps.....
Paul Stafford Cook yes sir, thanks! A twisted Tele is made to sound kind of like a strat. CS puts them in many tele’s. Thanks!
Have you stayed with the PAF in your Tele Paul..? Or swapped out for a try of something else..? I`ve been checking out the analogman Big T Tele pickups and they appear to sound very good. The neck pickup is specially designed to have a fuller sound while retaining good definition and clarity. 9 designed by Lindy Fralin ) I believe it can be wired up with a 4 way switch to give parallel or series settings. Anyhow, since you`re a tone man and like to check things out, thought I`d mention. Cheers
Yes, I’m still with the Stormy Monday PAF in the neck. Whilst I probably won’t change anything now (since I’m happy with that guitar), it would be very interesting to do a similar project in parallel, using these Analogman Big T pickups.... I’ve just done some research on them and I’m liking what I’m reading!
Forget the pickups, you play beautifully! Wow!👏🏻
Well thank you Adrian! Appreciated mate 👍
