When I was in viet nam in 68 in my spare time I was a DJ. I wrote several groups and ask for some albums or singles and the only group that responded was the Ventures. They sent me I guess it was 6 or 8 albums and boy was I happy. We had new music to listen to, music that we all new and grew up with. I cant say Thank You and tell you what a difference you made to some guys that really needed something different in their lives to get their minds on something else..........Thank You to all the VENTURES And May God Bless!!!!!
I was in Applebees one Saturday morning back when they still served breakfast. This was in Covington, WA. The bartender asked what I had been doing that morning. I told her I had been listening to the greatest guitar music of all time. She asked who, and I told her, "The Ventures." There was an older man wearing a hat on the other side of the room. I did not see his face. When I was leaving, he had already left. When i was ready to leave, the bartender told me Don Wilson had paid my bill.
I listened to the Ventures’ music since childhood when my eldest bro. and uncle played their vinyl LP. The melodies and forms were deeply planted in my mind as I grew up. Now I’ve been collecting their Vinyls for 2 decades. Their music is ever attractive n memorable.
How many of us as children wanted to be just like The Ventures. They are the reason many of us learned the guitar. Rest in Peace The Ventures. You gave us some of the greatest music of all time.
I learned a great deal about playing guitar in time playing with that Ventures album. They, in my opinion, kick started what we called " SURF MUSIC." They sound GREAT!!!! At 71 I now play light jazz on guitar and Slap funk on bass. Thanks for giving me the DESIRE !!!!
I love how their opening medley is all the same song. Real musicians without some kludge singer to overshadow the real heart of the band. Love you guys always and thank you.
I’m 75 and enjoy and play their music more than I be. Because of the Ventures in 1961 I started playing a Sears $15 Guitar. Every Thursday I play at the happy hour in our senior center bar. What an ego trip. Of course Walk Don’t Run is in my play set.. Ron Annapolis MD
This brings back old memories of awesome youth, when I never ran out of energy, and I just knew I was 10 feet tall, and bullet proof. Awesome music for awesome times. Thank God for the Ventures.
I grew up listening to the Ventures. Then, years later I began playing guitar. My friend and I learned every Ventures hit as soon as they hit the airwaves. Thanks guys.
The Ventures are just soooo. great. But know one knows, except those that lived back in the day. These guys learned to play their instruments in a garage. And turned out to be the the GREATEST INSTRUMENTAL band of all time. Their music makespeople feel so good. But, I guess you had to be there. If anyone loves the Ventures like I do, stay close - more coming.
Me too, though I will say that the Beatles had the biggest impact on my life as a musician. I was in two great Beatles Tribute bands as well as a band that did all British Invasion songs, which was a great time in my life. More than anything though, was the effect they had on my songwriting skills today. Now, I am 71 and still writing and recording. I listened to Paul McCartney in an interview just a week ago, talking about songwriting and it was so enlightening, even at this age. Their ability to write a complete album in two weeks is just amazing in itself. The Ventures had a profound impact on me as well, like you said. They got my interest up on guitar, which was actually just an accident in the first place.
@@roycentanni6985 sorry Roy I love the V’s but that ain’t true re: the Beatles. But when it came to selling guitars the ventures and Mosrite had a deal with Sears in the mid 60s when it was one of the biggest retailers in the country. They also created such a guitar boom in Japan that businesses that had nothing to do with guitars started making them.
+Bob Dashiell I have ALL of the ventures albums, even the rare "Christmas With the Ventures". None of them are for sale. When I'm gone, you may wan't to talk to my grandson. =Stefan=
+chengloki I tried to get every album but failed. I have many vinyl lps but never play them. Not sure what will happen to them when I pass on or what to do with them now.
Bob, we have the same problem. My grandson will take custody of my albums, but he is not a Ventures fan. can you imagine that??? I even have a first edition of "Mr. Spocks Music From Outer Space". Do you know what that is worth?? =Stefan=
+chengloki "Do you know what that is worth?? " No but to the right collector it could be worth a lot. Just guessing. The problem is finding that person. Sigh...there will never be another band like The Ventures. Today's music is full of anger, hate and more negativity. I know that my taste in music dates me but I simply cannot listen to the young music of today. Oh well, we still have "our" music to listen to. :)
Hey, can we have running dialog like the old system?? As for the "music" of today, I don't hear it as music. Don't care for bycicle horns and police whistles. Give me the Ventures any time. Hey, how about the "Shadows".? You have to be like me, in your 60's. =Stefan=
as a teenager here in england in the sixties we had the shadows and you had the ventures. and we loved them both. now i'm 70 and i still play their music on my guitars. great years, thank you.
+John James McCartney It is unfortunate that The Shadows records weren't given proper promotion in the US; Apache was released on Atlantic Records, and Jorgen Ingman's version was released on ATCO, a subsidiary of Atlantic. Ingman's version was promoted and soared in the charts. The Ventures also released their version of Apache on an album; "The Ventures play Telestar." I've not been to a Ventures concert that Apache was not played. I went to the Shadows Final Tour show at the Apollo in Hammersmith, London in June 2004. Only time I've been to a Shadows concert, I enjoyed that.
Wow! Wow! WhT lovely memories it brings back to me. My growing years were all through the sound of the Ventures and the Shadows. Now attach a memory to it and you're walking down memory lane. Thank you so much for adding meaning to my life!,,,,

Cool.
We were in the 1956 Comm Group (5th U.S. Air Force) in 1968. We had Far East Network, but I do not remember hearing any music.
in Danang 1966 we had Armed Forces Radio...played all the new stuff....
So right 60 years later

When they played, they made their guitars fill good! The drums were so bad (good, great)❤️👍
Many will say The Beatles created the electric guitar sales boom. I bought my first because of these guys. What a great sound.
The Ventures sold more albums than the Beatles globally.
