Hi, great set of skills you have. I would like to learn how to weld also so that I can offer "the complete package". Anyways, could you go into depth of how you dealt with the rollers, the lower track system and also, what kind of securing keeps the gate from falling over when its opening? I see the stops at each end but when the gate is opening up, I dont see anything securing the top? I appreciate any answers you can give me on that or better yet another video? yeah I know - tough chance. Thanks
@@Jacob_Harley you missed my exact point, Do it in ALL metal if your going to do it or don’t do it half ass. Exactly leave it to the professionals was my point of calling you out
Look brother, the metal frame is to keep the wood panneling from warping and twisting and sagging as it would in west texas heat. The wood is to complete the same look as the rest as my client asked for. An all metal gate wouldnt look good here nor would it work the way we designed it, to make it look seamless and hidden from a distance considering this is a elementary school and the kids play beind this fence This is an absolutely flawless, and beautiful gate if you saw it in person. Im sorry you feel how you do. But thank you for your input.
Cool video but out of curiosity, is there a particular reason why the posts in the asphalt were off-center to the holes? Some of them seemed to be close to center and some seemed to be on the very edge of the holes dug.
Man sometimes its hard to get a hole perfectly centered over where you want it. Sometimes the post have to be offset slightly to keep our 8' center to center span.
Would it be a feasible option to build the gate frame out of 4x4s instead of welded galvanized tubing for those of us that don’t have welding equipment? Could maybe add a third v-track wheel to account for possible wood flex at the bottom?
I personally wouldnt. But that dosent mean you cant! I built a sliding gate out of lumber some years back at the request of the homeowner and i just wasnt happy with it. The problem is, 4x4s will warp and bow and eventually the gate wont operate correctly. Now you probably could do it , and reinforce with angle iron screwed to it, but i havent ever tried that! Hope that helps some!
@@Jacob_Harley I’ll try the angle iron for reinforcement and see how it stands the test of time! Great idea on that. With my gate being 11’ in length would a 4x4 frame with angle iron and lap joints be over kill? Do you think a 2x4 frame with angle iron and lap joints suffice?
@@chrisgraham6111 you know thats hard to say. Is it a picket fence? 6ft tall? The problem with 2x4 is, with the weight of the pickets etc, it will be prone to twisting . But with an angle iron frame , that will definitely help stiffen it up so you would probably be fine.
@@Jacob_Harley Thanks, i will try to practice that DCEN method on thin steel.. before this i only heard people saying that 16gauge is only possible with mig.. hope your next video can show your welding process without too much fast forward during welding..
If you could please help me out i would love to know what you charged to build gates like this? I don't need an exact number but a rough idea would be great. I know the price of the fence in my area, but the gates are a struggle to price, especially if they are custom like this if you could help me with a number, it would give me some insight. Thanks
on gates like this I usually charge material plus my hourly rate of welding which is 125/hr. I think I had half a day or a little more into both of these gates. if I was to make a number off the top, id say around 2000-2500 total material and labor for both gates.
You can tell you care about your craft. Nice job, and i wish everyone took the care you do.
Really enjoy these fence videos. Would love to see more about how you build them!
I will try to make an in depth video on one of the next ones!
How much does it cost to make a sliding door for a fence, like that?
Thanks for sharing ❤
You didn't grind the galvanizing off before welding?
I love this my guy, it looks beautiful and ver neat! 🥂💯!
Thank you my brotha!!

I am hoping to be doing another one soon and will definitely give an in depth video!
What pickets you use? I imagine that the fence price is at list $10000?
So purpose of the metal frame? Could have just went fill wood
Thats such a junk and cheap way of doing things. It would warp and fall apart within a few years. Leave it to the professionals

Why would a wood fence have an all metal gate? Make that make sense....
@@Jacob_HarleyI shouldn’t have to explain to another metal worker what I’m trying to say. I’m calling you out on this as a metal worker

This is awesome! Mind if I ask where you get your galvanized pipe and fence adaptors from? Thanks from Brandon, Mississippi!!!
Sorry brandon i just saw this! I use binford supply who is a nation wide company. They always supply all.my material on our cedar fences

Great video! subscribed!
Nice! I assume you used SS 20 or 40 Galvanized Steel Posts.
Correct! On this one we used 40
@@Jacob_Harley Excellent work thanks for sharing.
@@stevelopez372 thank you bud!
For that thin metal, what method you use to stick welding that ? did you ran continious bead or use "tack weld" method ?
Continuous bead for sure. I run 6010 3/32 at around 70-75 amps for thin stuff like 14guage and 16 guage.

Did u space the post 10ft apart?
8 ft apart bud.
You talk about using safety glasses, but you should also be wearing a mask when panting or staining.
I 100% agree with you.
Do a rig tour
One of these days when i have a few more subscribers!
OK, we don't need to see all the holes being drilled. One is enough.
You didn't show your roller mechanism, only a fleeting glance.
About 20 of these $ize jobs a year and you could buy yourself a nice fishing boat and a cabin in Ruidoso !!!
Man we do qukte a few of these. We also do full interior and exterior remodels and metal buildings.
