Every thumbnail, app, video etc has colors and effects to attract your attention, so the biggest pro I see is that you can focus in the content you want to consume, and also makes your phone a little bit boring

I use grey scale on all screens. Not when i code (syntax highlighting) or gaming/movies. Its such a relief.

I’m starting to do this, too. I have the shortcut on iOS, macOS, and tvOS. “Relief” is the word I’m hunting for, looking for others’s experiences.
Going greyscale is painful! Restricting websites is also difficult to keep doing.
I came here after switching to greyscale, its good now, no more distraction.

I enjoy watching old B/W Movies and TV Shows. B/W can add suspense. Often B/W Photographs have more character, especially when colored filters are used.
Funny. I am using gray-scale mode for years. Bundle it with quick button (my is power + up volume) and it's perfect.

Inverted colors are a thousand times worse than Greyscale.
For anyone that hasn’t noticed you can adjust the intensity of the grayscale. It’s not completely the same, but it has the same effect. Definitely more boring, but you can still see some color. Would recommend to anyone else that struggles to stick to full-on grayscale.

Fight Smartphone Addition
I’ll like to start by mentioning that I’m not an expert in the medical and physiology field and that I’m going into this post having been addicted to smartphones and as a very techy individual.
So I personally think no software solution can fix a smartphone addition and that a hardware solution is the answer.
In this post I’m covering types of devices that might be able to solve a smartphone addition.
T-9 phones, basic phones, dumb phones
Probably the most obvious choice though it might not be the best. What makes dumb phones so attractive is that they’re so basic which could also be a problem. There’s a high likely hood that if you’re switching to a dumb phone that you experience frustration in the inability to perform even what you may consider super duper basic operations. For example muting the device and or turning on the torchlight. Furthermore, you’ll definitely have frustrations using the T-9 keyboard.
Surprisingly, as time has moved on dumb phones can be had in not-so-dumb models. There’s even flip phones running Android and KaiOS is pretty capable too.
Nokia Asha 210, Nokia Series 40
For my life, WhatsApp is very important. and if you need WhatsApp while wanting to fight your smartphone addition I say take a look at classic Nokia’s. A handful of Nokia’s had official support for WhatsApp. For a list of Nokia phones that support WhatsApp, I suggest you check out WhatsApp FAQ regarding Which Nokia devices are supported?.
I have personal experience using WhatsApp on a classic Nokia phone with the Asha 210. Actually, the Nokia Asha 210 has more than WhatsApp. It also has Twitter and Facebook as well as the Opera app store. Unfortunently, while I might have recommened this solution to fight smartphone addition a couple of years ago, I wouldn’t recommend this solution today mainly because WhatsApp will no longer be support by the 31 December 2018. But even today, WhatsApp is kinda broken on classic Nokia phone. Due to web certificates, I’m unable to share videos and photos. Also WhatsApp has definitely involved over the years with the version of WhatsApp running on classic Nokia’s lacking the abilty to make voice calls and to delete messages for everyone in group chats. Twitter, FaceBook and the web browser still works surprisingly well however they’re quite slow so I’m guessing no one will ever use it.
Today, operating systems such as SailOS and KaiOS taking the throne from classic Nokia’s bundling physical keypad/keyboard with relatively modern applications yet while being not a smartphone.
Old Android phone
You might be wondering how switching from a to a smartphone works. Well, for this I’m going to be using the Samsung Galaxy Y Dous as an example. It’s a 7 year old Android device. You can run WhatsApp on it. You can run Facebook messenger on it. You most likely could potentially install many other applications. However, at the same time you probably can’t. Firstly it’s a 7 year old Android phone. More specifically a low to mid range phone from 7 years ago. This means that it runs a 7 year version of Android: Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Some applications still support it but most don’t. You might then think that I would install applications with apk files but again, it’s a low to mid range phone from 7 years ago which means it has very, very limited storage. Which means you can really only install 1-2 applications. The applications you really need.
I think the biggest problem with this solution is that you would be thinking that your using a smartphone and most likely would feel frustrated when your unable to do what you normally do on an Android phone.
Nokia X, Forked Android
Unlike the other solutions I’m suggesting, I don’t have hands on experience with forked versions of Android and the Nokia X family of devices. Though from internet research, it follows a similar principle to that of using an old Android phone. Basically you don’t have access to the google play store meaning that you either need to use the Opera store which most likely doesn’t contain the applications you want or you have to install applications with apk files. Being inconvenient you’ll will be limited to a handful of applications and the rest is self explentary.
At the end of the day, I cannot say that what that device x, y, z is perfect for you. You’ll have to find out your self. Though I hope I’ve help in considering types of devices you might have not previously considered.
Recovering from a smartphone addiction can be a long or short process. In this post, I only really covered an aspect of the stage towards recovery, the aspect of what type of device to switch too. Though, there’s other aspects which I’ll leave you to discover.
