- I re-ripped the master VHS, removed some of the hiss in the audio and I replaced the audio in "The Philosopher" with the album version (since it's a mono recording). The slightly choppy framerate during the interview is from the original broadcast.
If only metal had more minds like his in it today, or...fucking ever.
yea no kidding 😞
For real.
"Symbolic" is one of the best Death Metal album ever made.
And The Sound of Perseverance
@@Samoan_Metalhead death has such a perfect discography only few metal bands dream of achieving
Perseverance was musically good but I didn't like his vocal style on that record.
I'd say is one of the best metal albuns
MetalSalvation idk why but I like the vocals better on that album
So much of Chuck's personality has rubbed off on me, he has patience and respect for anyone. Such a down to earth, humble, genuine human being. Just his UA-cam interview videos alone have influenced who I am as a person. I can only imagine what effect he had on the people who had the pleasure of meeting him. Him and Michael Jackson such peaceful souls \m/
goodeldash Totally agree about Chuck. He helped me so much in my life, and that thanks to these videos ... an amazing peaceful creature ♥
So true man
Jimmy Savile define "soul"
chuck > michael jackson
only because mj hosts his own crooked daycare 1/10
Well....Michael Jackson....better watch the documentary of his..."victims"...
I wonder what he'd be up to today. I really miss his music.
I think he was breaking up Death around the time of Sound of Perseverance & Control Denied's first album. I haven't put much thought into what Chuck may have been doing these days. It's possible he would have taken a break from Death for a few album cycles with Control Denied, which he wasn't even doing vocals on, just guitar and give his voice a rest for a few years, then kick out another Death album around 2005 or so, with his voice in tip-top shape. It's obviously just all speculation, but that's my personal take on it. I just thought that up this very moment off the top of my head. As far as what he might be doing here in 2016, I have no clue. I mean from 1987 to 1995, his vocals took a really drastic and sudden change. Who knows if he'd be able to sing in the same way as Symbolic. I personally prefer his vocals on all the albums before Individual Thought Patterns, to be quite honest. I really dunno, though, because there are some extreme type metal bands who still play the same style as they did decades ago, with singers who still sound decent.
You cannot assume what someone would be doing if death didn't happen- WTFU
My guess is he probably would've continued with Control Denied or start a new project...however because of the way the music industry is now I think he may have eventually chose to tour with Death again since that band was his most successful. Not sure if he would still make Death albums though, but maybe just tour with that name and still work on other projects.
He made a album called miss conception and it was awesome because I was his good child hood friend and he never got to release ot
He got the answer of our existence. The meaning of life and death. His soul is with our creator.
that shot at 7:11 was so precious, so sad and so heart-wrenching to see a young talented lad, in the prime of his life so full of life and energy, suddenly perished. I email him through his website in broken English and they were so nice and warm to me, I still get a lump in my throat when I see him on screen :(
It's sad that he was in one of the best bands named Death, but loved life. Chuck was a good man, and he brought a lot to the metal community, it's just sad to see what happened to him, and that he had career problems with being ripped off, but he did it for the love of the music.
What?
Man chuck seemed like such a genuinely good dude. Would have loved to have met him if he was still around. RIP brother \m/
so sad people just dont get it,Mr.Man said it in so many words, its not about death and violence its about FEELING in ones self.
We all miss your true vision, and sadly will never see it again.
The man with the most beautiful mind, my number one influence and inspiration in life. Having perspective without prejudice
No one would of been a better ambassador of metal than this guy.......He is full of positivity low key humble guy that you would never ever had think he was the song writer for Scream Bloody Gore and Leprosy.
In contrast to the brutality of his music Chuck is so mild mannered; And the interviewer is so hot
The same with Corpsegrinder .
Her name is Geneviève Borne and she got cancer too lol, but she's still alive...free health care ftw.
I agree with both statements. Most Canadian-French women are hot.
Count Deangeli She’s an absolute dime
@@Master-Roshi what the hell is with cancer targeting people associated with death
Chuck looks just like the guy of my dreams...What beautiful eyes and smile.I want to marry him :(
i'm astonished by his loss, when i see him like in here: gentle, clever and polite, back in the day when music had hope
according to wiki, every motherfucker in the community started helping, even some really successful bands (red hot chilli peppers, kid rock, korn, trivum) tried helping but the costs could not be covered and the surgery was denied, which makes me think, where have we come in this world, where you can't spare a dollar for a brother to SAVE HIS LIFE. Actually, no matter who the fuck it is, why not help a brother out? And we give our money to entertainment purposes like kickstarters for games.
raytawatari Chuck spoke about apathy in many Death songs. So sad that such a beutiful soul had to suffer such a terrible fate
Miss you a lot, Chuck.
I hate when they play music in the background of the interview. Just let them talk!
It's not music, it's DEATH !!
Yes, you can't neither listen the interview, neither listen the song...
was too loud
i remember seeing this interview on tv back then, the good old days...
***** More like teary eyes!
Chuck is jamming with Hendrix, Keith Moon and Cliff Burton right now, and recently, Dio and John Lord joined their band. Best all round super group line up right here!!
He was so handsome and such an intellectual 🥰 R.I.P Chuck
The world has lost a shining star....love you forever.
Peace from Lebanon

What a great chilled guy chuck was.
chuck was such a cool guy r.i.p. chuck! what a talented awesome musician
I was at the show the day that this interview took place! I still have the ticket stub for the concert (total cost $19.91!) One of the best shows I've ever seen. Chuck was an incredible musician and composer, a goddamn shame such a brilliant metal god's life was cut short. Chuck's music has influenced my life in ways that are beyond words!
Ill never forget meeting you in Cleveland in 95.
Such a NICE man.
Times have changed.... but youre alive in my mind.
R.I.P. brother.
I still can't believe how we lost this guy so early in his life.
He was so amazing -- in person, as shown here, but even more in concert, where he was breathtaking. Just an incredible talent and person.
i love everything about him. RIP CHUCK. love you !
Look at so many great metal musicians we lost... Randy, Dio, Jeff, Chuck, Cliff, Nick, Lemmy and we are stuck with fucking Fred Durst

23 giorni dopo questa intervista la mia vita e cambiata..Ma nn e mai cambiato il mio amore per i veri geni della musica!Chuck era sicuramente uno dei miei idoli,e nn dimentichero' mai la sua influenza sulla mia esistenza!
The interviewer Genevieve Borne also had cancer a few years ago but survived.
chuck really was an amazing guy!!! R.I.P. to the almighty \m/
Damn !! Chuck was such a Mr. Nice guy.Why did u died brother. Rest in Peace \,,/
I worship Chuck as my god. And I know I'm not alone
Hail Chuck
Delicious cookies n' cream ice madness.
No you're not :)
Holy shit, just thought about this the other day
thats... unhealthy lmfao
Symbolic has great memories for me. 1996 i think. smashed it for about 6 months. learnt the lyrics. Death was an important part of my life from 1989 till 1997. its like looking back on a past life now. I get quite pensive about it now.
strappingyoungmetal interesting, just now Death is becoming a really important thing in my life. I am 21 and all I learn on guitar is Chucks art
Strapping Young (not Devin Townsend sorry) lol
Without Chuck, we would not exist.
Chuck always shows how misunderstood we are as metalheads. People are so willing to accept hip hop and rap with all their explicit drug use , raping and killing but the minute they see someone that looks like a metalhead or hears them listening to the music they are scared and offended. I actually like it that way because it’s allowed me to see the true person they are. I can’t tell how many people have tried to get into my life after they’ve judged me wrong and actually find out I’m a nicer person than most of their friends or family and my favorite part is ignoring them. If your going to judge me by the music I listen to without any knowledge that music or the person I am, I have no room for you in my life
And when you go to a pop or rap concert, people are edgy and snobby as fuck. Go to a metal concert, it's like a family reunon.
I still miss you Chuck everyday !!!!!! R.I.P.
im 15 and a young guitarist, i am a huge follower of chuck, and i noticed that music is a business its not about how much drugs and women you can fuck, its about how good your music sounds.
Chuck really was a great guy, all of his interviews show how truly patient and kind he was.
RIP, Chuck. He's one of my favorite musicians ever.
This is great Chuck interview, and the interviewer is beautiful!
"If you think you know all what you know about 'Death'....think again". That was mentioned in Metal Hammer Mag in 95 when 'Symbolic' album was release....still so far the best Death Metal Album of all time....we miss you Chuck R.I.P....Peace from Lebanon.....j.
Such a good guy i am so happy that i can watch the father of metal Chuck
Уникален мизикант!!! Дано историята го помни!
I certainly don't mind how half of the interview is literally a music video.
Chuck not only was an excellent musician, he was an excellent person.... such a really nice guy. RIP Master Chuck
Best audio/image version. Thank you very much!!
This should be a music video for the philosopher, my favorite song by death other than crystal mountain, because both convey 2 huge issues in our current society, and these 2 songs have a special place in my heart.
Awesome. Great interview. RIP, Chuck. The man is a genius. Hail Death.
@VictorHeavyMetal95 I'm still glad I even have that footage. I had literally came home from the Death show in Rimouski, i turn on the TV and she's like "after the break, Chuck from DEATH!". I never looked for a blank tape faster in my life.
I had a dream once where Chuck & I were riding in a bus together while he was playing the guitar. He had dreadlocks by the way lol. I'm fascinated by his way of playing & I try to emulate his playing technique in my own rite. \m/
The best musician, the best music, and a total babe.. best interview
And that's why people love him so much today.
Man i am baffled at what Chuck said cause we have in common favorite band King Diamond :). I Love him even more now. He was such a talent and hard worker driven by passion of music and innovation. He is truly my all time hero both musically, and as a human being to be looked upon. Forgot to mention Death is my favorite band as well :D.
So glad I found Death when I did in my teens. I love all types of music, but Chuck and Death will always have a special place in my heart. Most people hear roaring but can’t look pass that and listen to probably the greatest melodic guitarist ever. ✌️❤️🤘
If Kickstarter existed back then, Chuck would still be here. I’m surprised nobody did fundraisers for him.
Your fans love and miss you so much Chuck 🙏
One of the greatest musicians of the 20th century. He is and will be missed but his art will echo forever.
8:40 this was definitely recorded in the 90s lmao that camera angle
Haha, totally.
Chuck and LaRocque was such a powerful combo.
if i was her i think i couldn t control myself. i will bend to kiss him
LOL! I was thinking this
Your fans love and miss you Chuck!! We will share your music forever
for those who dont know, it's without judgement played in the background( check my channel, I made a playlist with full chuck's discography)
Rest in peace, my friend.
Thank you so much for adding this so much wonderfull video, the best interview of Chuck Schuldiner ever for sure... Thank's to Miss. Borne, she is a real QUEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So Human... (Like Chuck was, and like one Death's title best album) R.I.P. Chuck
@MikiMetal4ever Without Judgement during the 1st segment, Perrenial Quest during the 2nd.
i love how the snippet of an ad at the end reminds you of what would typically have been played at the time hahaha. puts things in perspective a bit
Thanks for posting. RIP Chuck
@skulhed Yes, you should be glad because this is impossible to buy at stores.
Thanx for upload it! Great band! You must protect that tape with your life!
RIP Chuck
Let the metal flow!
That is Bernadette Peters little sister doing the interview!! RIP Chuck!!
Humilde e simpático demais.
Chuck was one of my idols ever since I bought their 1991 album HUMAN. I had all of their previous releases, and they were good, but ever since I bought HUMAN and all of their subsequent releases, I liked their music even more because they talked about shit that's actually still a serious problem in this world. Like Chuck, I really hate hypocrisy as well as betrayal.
In Canada they could have taken care of him...sad
+mattbell555 Man what the hell. People die from cancer in Canada all the time.
kylehogan7
it was treatable
brain stem cancer.......treatable......rofl.

"Cancer
In May 1999, Schuldiner experienced harsh pain in his upper neck, which he initially thought was a pinched nerve. He consulted with a chiropractor and a massage therapist/acupuncturist who recommended an MRI examination, which discovered that the nerve was being pinched by a tumor. On his 32nd birthday, May 13, 1999, Schuldiner was diagnosed with a high-grade pontine glioma (a malignant type of brain cancer that invades the brainstem), and immediately underwent radiation therapy.
In October 1999, Schuldiner's family announced that the tumor had necrotized and that he was on the way to recovery. In January 2000, Schuldiner underwent surgery to remove what remained of his tumor. The operation was a success. However, the Schuldiner family was struggling financially. The total costs of the operations came to US$70,000, which the Schuldiner family could not afford. Many fundraisers, auctions, and benefit concerts were held to help cover the costs. The money began to come in as the metal community realized that Schuldiner's life was in danger.
Schuldiner continued to work on his music, continuing his work with Control Denied. About two years after his original diagnosis, in May 2001, the cancer returned and Schuldiner fell ill again. He was at first unable to afford the surgery that he needed immediately. A press release called for support from everyone, including fellow artists. Jane Schuldiner urged all who read the statements about Schuldiner and his illness to go out and get insurance, stating her frustration in the American healthcare system. Schuldiner had taken out medical insurance after his first surgery, but the insurer had refused to pay because the tumor pre-dated insurance being taken out. Many artists, including Kid Rock, Korn and Red Hot Chili Peppers, got together during the summer of 2001 to auction off personal items, with the funds assisting Schuldiner's medical expenses, an effort covered by MTV.[19] Matt Heafy, vocalist and guitarist for Trivium has also stated that the band had played a benefit show for Schuldiner while he was in the hospital in their days as a local band.[20] Schuldiner received chemotherapy with vincristine. Like most drugs used in the treatment of cancer, the side effects were harsh and weakened him greatly. In late October/early November, Schuldiner's condition worsened as he became ill with pneumonia.
Chuck Schuldiner died on December 13, 2001, at approximately 4 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.[21] and was cremated.[22] MTV reported that recording artists including Mike Patton, Max Cavalera, King Diamond, Ville Valo, Trey Azagthoth, Glen Benton, and all former and active members of Death, attended his memorial service." It was treatable !
***** So they did run out of funds after all.
That still doesn't mean it was really treatable.
They might be gotten the money for the surgery only to have him die anyway.
Fuckin tragedy.
"PLAYING FROM THE HEART & THE SOULS...WHICH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT"...what a statement!!!...no fabricated formulas to sell records withouth spirit
A gentleman & fantastic mind.
he passed away from a rare type of brain cancer, attacking his brainstem.. on december 13 2001. He came down with the condition while mixing the Control Denied album, thought it was a pinched nerve, turned out being a tumor.
RIP Chuck, my inspiration
what a legend 💗
Чак, МЫ Тебя помним!!! You Never Forgotten In Our Minds!!!!
i miss the 90s
Good work on the vid man, thanx!
She is so beautiful !
Such a nice Guy.

Killer drums, the whole production just awesome!
such a sweet person
definately. he was a great and serious guy with attitude.
What voice and speech style did Chuck Schuldiner have.
Que voz y estilo de habla tenía Chuck schuldiner.
2:47 ahahahah
lmao
Lol chuck is like hint hint
It must have been an honor to be interviewed by Mary Jane Watson!!
Gene is seriously a drum machine, I mean not in a mechanical way but like advanced sci fi technology, so ahead of its time, its like hearing Rush, gotta love the classic prog influence. Stellar musicianship from everyone.🔥
love Chuck madly
miss him so much
the hole his death left in our hearts will never be filled
metalsam 81
you express exactly how i feel
He is a genious,he pass away so early...so cute
Great album ❤
nice interview, love the Symbolic album...!
Genuine dude, sincere too.... peace & salam Chuck
very nice woman !!! chuck you are still alive in our heart i don't miss you cause your soul still with us you are the soul of death metal..............no kids will understand us!!!!!
The guy who would later teach me guitar showed me this on vhs and i guess it was sometimes around 96 or 97. I was little and i regret not being able to understand much, Chuck would have been a great role model for a kid who didn't have a decent one. I can learn better from his insights, dedication, musicianship and lyrics, now that i'm the about the same age that he was when he passed away. Death remains the only death metal band i like though, totally different from the rest. Thanks for the upload, it brings back memories.
Happy Birthday Chuck °!!! wherever you are
