I started out inheriting a 29 gallon tank with an old deformed western Australian Rainbowfish and three enormous Chinese algae eaters.
I dove in researching the rainbow and CAE care, bought a 90 gallon, and it’s been an addiction since.
I now have 12 species of Rainbowfish, plecos, endlers, ramshorn snails and 8 tanks.
I breed the rainbows for fun,and rehome the babies as they grow.
I should probably learn how to do this for some sort of profit.
I enjoy it so much, there’s always more to learn, and watching babies grow from tiny little eggs to active, healthy, curious and beautiful fish just lights me up.
I’m in Canada, and I’d be over the moon to be able to live in Australia and see some of my beloved species in their natural habitat(which I understand is increasingly at risk).
    Loving your videos!

This was so interesting! I’m just getting into the hobby but I was curious about how people breed and sell fish. I’d love to see a video about how you package fish/plants to ship safely and affordably :)

Selling does not work.. Local stores won't buy it from you.. Its like a closed business mafia.. They won't encourage hobbyists to become breeders.. They just say yes, I'll let you know when I need it.. And then never call back..
      .
And even on Facebook and social media if you are in some group.. It will depend on how far you are able to ship them at retail level.. No wholesale there either..
      .
If you are from big city then you can ship easily in city limits.. But then the constraint is the kind of city you live in.. How rich the people are, how big city is and what is popular opinion on keeping fishes..

Order enough fish, you will see how it's done. Most do not add oxygen or anything to control ammonia, but id suggest it.

Lol sitting here with 5 Tanks, mini pond and several smaller glas containers after starting with 1 mixed tank a year back looking for ways to optimize for breeding for profits having basically most of the stuff you mentioned. guppies, red and blue shrimp and tons of snails thinking about putting plecos in the 200L. I kinda became addicted to glas containers but makes fun. Great video on breeding fish for Profit for Starters. Fun to see so many similar ways and also learn from your experience. And yes more containers make it easier in the longrun but 1 is a good start you can achieve a lot from if combined well. Thanks

Shrimp are a bit difficult to bread with other fish in the tank. They work well with snails, and perhaps Neon Tetras, but basically, if a fish can fit a shrimp in it's mouth it will eat it, so the larger shrimp will survive but most of the babies will be eaten. This especially happens if the other fish in the tank figure out that there are baby shrimp in the tank. Once they've had a taste for baby shrimp, they will hunt them :-(

I can also think of raising blood worms in enclosed system where the flies are born and breed and lay eggs back again and you can harvest regularly from the tank. However you need to connect the fish tank with another enclosed tank as the blood worms eat the fish waste and grow on the organic matter.

I have an ecosystem tank like that with guppies, shrimps, snails and plants. But the type of shrimps I keep can get a little bigger than the guppies so if they don't get enough food, they'll eat the guppies instead if they could catch them. So I keep the water level high so the fish could run from the shrimp.

Cories will eat theirs and others eggs FYI. Most fish will eat shrimplets too. Unless they are pygmy cories I imagine you're losing alot of eggs and fry to them. I breed my cories in a 4ft tank filled with java moss and rhizome plants( anubias, java fern and bolbitis) bare bottom and they still eat the eggs often. Im due to thin the numbers of Trilineatus cories as once I hit about 30 of them I stopped getting any new fish . Still alot of eggs but the next day they are all gone. Only other thing in their tank is shrimp (algae control). No snails as many snails eat eggs that are scattered.
Good luck with it. Baby cories are so cute.

    • @ecoalex9345

@@jake8748 they have not been interfering with the other things. basically Half the tank is Java moss with 4 inches between the surface and the moss. The white clouds spawn deep in there where snails and Cory's can't get them. And my Cory's have not started eating their eggs very much (yet) and after I wrote that comment I looked over at my tank and there was eggs!

    • @freshwatermechanic
      @freshwatermechanic 2 роки тому

If you want the corys to breed they will need to be mature enough then once they are comfortable with a lot of plants an foliage like dead plant matter an mulm they will breed. They like it dirty an they like sand. If they see the eggs they are gonna get eaten so mulm is good. Very hard but I’ve done it with bettas an ADF frogs in the same tank.

i just started a tank (before seeing this video) with bristlenose, yellow shrimp, endless, guppies, snails and neon tetras. Let’s see if they breed! 😅

My son bought 2 platys, in 2 months they've had about 50-60 fry. We did nothing to get them to breed.

i make like 80-100€ a month selling of blue dream shrimp. i set up a 50 gallon tank a year ago with mostly nano fish and shrimp. it didnt work out how i wanted it but the shrimp breed like crazy. i would like to change the setup, turn out i find shrimp very boring, but its the only tank that brings in some money.

another easy way to make money is planting javafarn and anubias on rocks, shells and wood and selling it of on ebay. materials are very cheap, low efford and a decent margin for profit
