Saw this one in the theatre as a kid and loved it. It was one of the first Jaws rip-offs. I read the novelization too and loved the bit where the bear thinks of bullets as "the invisible fang."
Halfway through this video, I was fully convinced that the movie's big reveal was gonna be that the killer was actually some crazy mountaineer with a fake bear paw glove.
I was a parks superintendent and ranger for many years. Dealt with some bad situations, I do appreciate this film...one of my favorites, there are several things I would have done differently here as Chief Ranger.
LOL!!! Woman gets her arm ripped off and a little kid gets his leg ripped off!! You don't see that in today's PG movies! I LOVE these reviews. They make me guffaw out loud all the time! :)
I read that the creators of Resident Evil/Bio-Hazard were inspired to kill the final bosses in the games with a rocket launcher because of this movie. Thanks Grizzly!
I first saw this movie with just a single phrase in my mind: "Because Bear". Glad to say I wasn't disappointed when I learnt you shared kind of the same viewpoint!
I was a kid when this movie came out and my whole family saw it in the theater and it scared the HELL out of me. A week after seeing this my family went camping in the woods, I didn't sleep the whole time. THANKS ALOT DAD.😫
Horrorfreak106 This was before PG-13 came in existence, and this obviously didn’t deserve an R-rating. they never showed the actual attacks(they just show the kid being dropped after the attack), and that’s usually the cut off between the two today.
9:14-9:48 Suzanne Nagy, the producer of *"Grizzly II",* not too long ago, found a 35mm copy of the film in a lab and restored & re-edited it with new additional footage. It now goes by the title of *"Grizzly II: Revenge".* Hate to say this, but it was a massive letdown; especially for me, since I had high hopes for this famous lost film. Despite clearly having minor roles, they credited George Clooney, Laura Dern and Charlie Sheen first in the opening credits, instead of a "Introducing" credit at the end of the cast list. They even used quick clips from *"JAWS 2"* for the Grizzly getting electrocuted to death!
Wow,, I actually live in Rabun county Georgia... The movie doesn't do it any justice though. It's BEAUTIFUL here!! Especially during the Autumn! With the leaves turning colors on the trees,, shades of yellow, orange, and red... At certain times of the day, sometimes it almost looks like the mountains here are on FIRE!! We even get what we call "leaf lookers" that come to north Georgia (from all over the country) that back up the traffic for MILES!! Tourist that aren't lucky enough to have such a beautiful view wherever it is that they're from.... Two BIG THUMBS WAY UP for Rabun county Georgia!! 👍👍
And just when I thought the 1979 film Prophecy (which is also about a giant bear monster attacking people) was the most graphic PG movie I've ever seen there's this which is more graphic.
I remember trying to get in to the theater to see this, but I was too young; I always thought the poster was really scary. Finally saw the movie recently on Amazon Prime. It was watchable, and Richard Jaekel gave a fun performance. Very tame by today's standards, obviously.
I live in Tahoe, and while I wouldn't say I'm afraid of bears, (and we don't have grizzly bears) I've seen enough up close- and I mean REALLY close- to know the scariest thing about bears is not only how big they are... But how utterly silently they stalk about when their meer presence seems as though it should be accompanied by an earth shattering earthquake
GoodBadFlicks it wasn’t really them. It was the Clergy in the US. They were given prominent roles in the MPAA board, because of pressure from Ronald and Nancy Reagan. You can see a clear delineation in movie ratings in the early-mid-80s, when their people came into power.
Also. The absence of PG-13 made a huge difference. This would easily be a 13 now, and the absence of them showing the actual attacks, would keep it from being an R.
This movie is hilarious! I can't believe they killed that little kid, the 70's were crazy. I hope Scream Factory releases this on blu-ray and include it's sequel. Awesome video by the way.
Noah Whitaker I realize it’s been four years since you mentioned you were hoping this would come out on Blu-ray. It came out last year in a remastered edition with extras. If you are still interested, here is the link. I bought it and it’s a really good disc for people who like the film. roninflix.com/products/grizzly
I remember enjoying this film when I saw a couple years ago. Next to Piranha, I think this is the best of the Jaws style killer animal movies. Also that intro looked too damn much like the intro to The Towering Inferno haha.
Kid carnage involving animals? What was that thing I loved do again? Kittten drowning, almost forgot! How could I forget my cold blooded gory memories? Thank you very much for this review!
Accidentally stumbled on this movie when I was a kid one new years, took me years to even find out if it actually existed or was just one of those crazy kid memories ( I swear I was passed between two moving cars windows when I was 5, but I'm pretty sure that never happened as my folks aren't psychos, still feels real tho ), even when the internet came along took me ages to find it as I thought it was called The Bear or something..........I have no point to this rant I just realized, OK folks, move along, there's nothing to see here, keep it moving.
1:35 LOL! Another slamming review Cecil I actually got a chance to see this film last october for the first time and I didn't mind the film I enjoy it your right they did push the violence in this film I guess just as munch they pushed it for ''Jaws'' also IMO!
I love SN's review of the unfinished sequel too bad the producer made him take it down but it's here on YT so I'm good! XD I do think it can be finished with some cheap claymation and the bits and pieces of leftover footage! XD
The shark would bite the Bears face off if it Jaws could flout in air, While the bear wouldn't find enough u solid areas to hit the shark. Jaws for the win! Now what about Grizzly vs naughty? Naughty would win. Both giant and naughty has a machete and Bombs and guns and I think a rocket launcher eventually and a disenegrator and he is invisible while in the woods.
the movie was huge in Japan probably because of 'Sankebetsu brown bear incident'. The terror of a man eater bear are deeply imprinted on people's mind there.
Aww the 70's animal attack movies 😾🐻🐀🐪🐊🕷🦂😂 saw this when I was a kid 😁 They actually have found a Bear like this on an Alaskan island and said that he was probably a mix of modern and older bear species 🐻 and he is huge 😱
bigevilworldwide1 I think Brad might actually have been the one that reuploaded the review, or at the very least helped do so. What better way to stick it to an uptight film producer, right?
I NEEDLED My Friend Andrew Prine about GRIZZLY and the Woman BEATING the Bear with a BROOM !!!!! AGAIN, My Hat of To You and Your ENJOYABLE Reviews!!!!
OMG, me and my bro ±distinctfilms Rented this movie when we were younger than 12 years old here in the UK, scared the shit out of me and gave me nightmares for years...the little boy having his limb lobbed off was horrific! lol. No one else we spoke to in our lives ever heard of the film....thanks for making this video.
Yay. Am always a happy camper(no pun intended) when you claw(ok..now it's intended) out another review. Though am wondering why in your opening effect the cabin breaking got a glass shatter sound...i thought it would be explained in the review but..didn't get one. Still though i wanna watch this movie. Amana break it out tonight with Bram Stoker's Dracula and Terrorist Trap. Weird night..i know.
:) I needed a breaking sound and that was the only one I had in my banks that came close to matching. I tried to mess with it a bit but, well, nobody's perfect lol
0:28 Remember, aside from the iconic theme, John Williams' score for Jaws was far more "adventure" than "horror"...and Grizzly is a landlocked ripoff of Jaws, so the music makes sense. (They were, however, wise enough to abandon the VOCALS for the theme music, which were included on the movie's soundtrack LPs.) 1:02 Speaking of Jaws knockoffs, that red patch--and I can't believe I never noticed it, given how many times I've watched Grizzly--might be a visual representation of June's menstruation. In Peter Bencheley's Jaws novel, First Victim Chrissy attracts the shark because she's on her period.
no,.. it was a grizzly.. the bear in the shots is clearly a grizzly, it is called grizzly,.. and arctodus have been extinct for about 11,000 years... lmfao
This is a strange thing for me to come up with, but I now imagine the Grizzly to actually be Smokey the Bear, who accidentally sniffed up some camper's coke, and it was the cause behind his crazy rampage.
at my local zoo(Duluth-superior) we could(it's been a while) walk down the zookeeper's path to the feeding cage...it was(is?) like an enclosed cave that leads to a steel reinforced door...it ALWAYS stank like gore and blood...anyone else have a local zoo that had that feature?
Ok, a couple of things: yes, 70s films are awesome. Grizzly 2 is being released, it's on hold because of the #@$%ing coronavirus. Grizzly might have been the highest grossing independent film until Halloween, because we'll never know for sure how much money Texas Chainsaw Massacre made (because the producers hid how much money it made).
Don't know if it is a ripoff or a "remake" but this reminded me of Grizzly Park where a group of community service young adults were taken to do some clean up in a national park, and a bear was picking them off one by one. Turned out the bear was "owned" by the park ranger who was ordering the bear to kill all those that annoyed him.
Ahhh jaws with claws, a personal guilty pleasure of mine, it's supposed to come out on blu ray soon from scorpion releasing but they only put out a Dvd hmmm hope it comes out eventually
I love this film. Its violent, gritty and I found it actually quite scary.
Saw this one in the theatre as a kid and loved it. It was one of the first Jaws rip-offs. I read the novelization too and loved the bit where the bear thinks of bullets as "the invisible fang."
Halfway through this video, I was fully convinced that the movie's big reveal was gonna be that the killer was actually some crazy mountaineer with a fake bear paw glove.

guibox3 Thanks! Glad you are enjoying them :)
In reality, a grizzly initially goes for the guts and rib cage in food. Where the Heart is.
PG in the 70s, could get away with a lot.
I read that the creators of Resident Evil/Bio-Hazard were inspired to kill the final bosses in the games with a rocket launcher because of this movie. Thanks Grizzly!
In real life, Teddy the Bear as a real giant, at 11 feet 5 inches. Despite his size he was obedient like a dog and rarely was ever aggressive.
And I Also Know That They Had To Throw Marshmallows At it To Get The Bear To Open it's Mouth 🥧🥧🥧🥧🌹🌹🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🧋🧋🧋🧋🧋🧋🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍪🍪🍪
They blew up a bear with a bazooka. lol
A bearzooka!
they shoulda used a exploding bear trap
HAHAHAHA XD
Smile you son of a BOOM! 7:41
Rocket launcher from the ground. It’s the only way to be sure.
I first saw this movie with just a single phrase in my mind: "Because Bear". Glad to say I wasn't disappointed when I learnt you shared kind of the same viewpoint!
The opening music reminds me of those Marlboro commercials back in the day when they were still allowed on air.
3:49 I just love that guys expression. Why hasn't it become a meme yet?
I have to admit the growling sounds are unsettling.
I was a kid when this movie came out and my whole family saw it in the theater and it scared the HELL out of me. A week after seeing this my family went camping in the woods, I didn't sleep the whole time. THANKS ALOT DAD.😫
Yep, yet another PG movie that has blood, gore, and even some nudity. Awesome.
Horrorfreak106 This was before PG-13 came in existence, and this obviously didn’t deserve an R-rating. they never showed the actual attacks(they just show the kid being dropped after the attack), and that’s usually the cut off between the two today.
Jaws was pretty similar and so were it's sequels.
Holy smokes. The most nightmare-inducing "PG" movie. That last clip! Parental Guidance, indeed!
Watched this at the Cinema as part of a Double Feature with The Gumball Rally in 77, Wow 40 years ago
Damn, I was born in 77. I know this movie as a jaws copy.
3:13 him: there's something i'm not doing.
her: sure, you're not killing the bear.
him: (and i was like, biiitch!)
9:14-9:48

And just when I thought the 1979 film Prophecy (which is also about a giant bear monster attacking people) was the most graphic PG movie I've ever seen there's this which is more graphic.
I agree. Prophecy was pretty tame to this one.
I just love your sense of humor in these videos.
I remember trying to get in to the theater to see this, but I was too young; I always thought the poster was really scary.
Finally saw the movie recently on Amazon Prime. It was watchable, and Richard Jaekel gave a fun performance. Very tame by today's standards, obviously.

6:31 you won't see that in a PG movie today. Lousy soccer moms.
***** I still find it funny that the ones who grew up with this are the ones who are fighting against it
***** Too right
PG in the 70s could get away with a lot, due to the violence that became so much more prevalent.
GoodBadFlicks it wasn’t really them. It was the Clergy in the US. They were given prominent roles in the MPAA board, because of pressure from Ronald and Nancy Reagan. You can see a clear delineation in movie ratings in the early-mid-80s, when their people came into power.

Noah Whitaker I think the sequel may never "officially" be released.
Noah Whitaker I'm sure you've seen his review on the movie "The Prophecy" When the kid dies in that movie its hard not to laugh.
I think it might at one point, I mean they're releasing Prophecy
I saw this at the drive in. Remember the little speakers you hung on your car window? LOL
"Jaws with claws" I remember the papers said about this movie.
saw this in the theater in '76,loved it!
Once again, awesome vid. Didn't expect u to review this one though. It was on my wishlist and u sir have fulfilled it. :)
John Aquino Excellent!
I had a bad day, this bear makes me feel better. Not much, but it makes today BEARable.
Can't wait to watch Bearricane on SyFy.
I remember seeing that movie as a little kid brings back memories
The ending of the first Resident Evil game was based on this film--they toss you a rocket launcher from a helicopter to kill the final boss.
@1:22 bear wrecks cabin @1:40 cabin/shed is ok!
Did the bear fixed the shed?
Insidious DrNine he kind of smashed the backside of it
I remember loving the shit out of this movie when i was a kid. Going to track it down and give it another watch now.
"Kitridge, you've never seen me BEAR-y upset."
keep up the amazing work, my friend! I've been telling everyone i know about your channel! Can't wait till the next one!
Timothy W Thanks for the support!
I never really had the desire to watch this film, but after seeing your review, I have decided to give it a try.
Susuan Cartwrite its worth a look, I think you'll enjoy it
GoodBadFlicks Hi, great vid. Could you do rogue, it is a great film that no one knows about.
Surprisingly gory!
Book 'em, Lou! One count of being a bear, and one count of being an accessory to being a bear.
And now, 37 years later, the sequel is finally getting released
I didn't realize bears need a motive to kill people.😂
Saw this several times back in the 70's, around the same time "Killdozer" was out, lol.
The horse decapitation scene, I loved that when I was a kid.

PG in the 70s WOW
jugghead82 with no PG-13, this had to be PG. it didn’t show nudity, or the actual attacks(like the kid losing his leg) so it didn’t deserve an R.
As was Jaws
I love SN's review of the unfinished sequel too bad the producer made him take it down but it's here on YT so I'm good! XD I do think it can be finished with some cheap claymation and the bits and pieces of leftover footage! XD
Saw this at the Drive-In. We all laughed our asses off!!
The music sounded just like the music of every other 70 Disaster movies.
I wonder who who win if the bear from Grizzly fought the shark from Jaws...
Hollywood, make a goddamn movie that answers my question!
***** Then I guess to make it a fair fight you'll have to set it on the moon. Superman IV style....
poontang3zizo coming soon: The Asylum presents: RoboGrizzly vs Sharkunami
poontang3zizo although Lake Placid answered Crocodile vs Grizzly
The shark would bite the Bears face off if it Jaws could flout in air, While the bear wouldn't find enough u solid areas to hit the shark. Jaws for the win! Now what about Grizzly vs naughty? Naughty would win. Both giant and naughty has a machete and Bombs and guns and I think a rocket launcher eventually and a disenegrator and he is invisible while in the woods.
'Paws'
That might not be accurate...but that's too good XD
the movie was huge in Japan probably because of 'Sankebetsu brown bear incident'. The terror of a man eater bear are deeply imprinted on people's mind there.
bears don't move in herds,.. a group of bears is called a sleuth.. not a herd :D
Wow, a kid gets killed by a killer bear in a "PG" Horror movie, that's so messed up. :p
RocketeerRaccoon killed quite brutally too
“The bear’s a robot now?” Which is why Grizzly II’s original sub-title was going to be Ruxpin’s Revenge.
I remember watching this on TV years ago. Ratings have really changed LOL
I appreciated your USS Indianapolis reference 😊
Oh no, not Grizzly 2 footage! You'll get kicked off UA-cam and forced to become some kind of snob...
The producer had it taken down off Snob's own website. It was Nail Gun Massacre that got him kicked off youtube.
bigevilworldwide1 I think Brad might actually have been the one that reuploaded the review, or at the very least helped do so. What better way to stick it to an uptight film producer, right?
People in sleeping bags are just the soft tacos of the bear world.
What if there never really was a bear and it was just Bear Grylls instead?
he just wanted his cup of piss
Did he run out of pee?
Then everyone would be safe, as he is fake as f**k.
From Jaws, where you don't see the baddie, to paws, which is all you see of the baddie.
1976? Just call Dan Haggerty, he'll talk the bear down.

GoodBadFlicks It's cool man. Glad to see you back.
Could you review the movie, Magic from 1978?
The Variety Vendor at some point, yes
You missed adding a "smile you son of a bitch", before he shot the bear with a rocket launcher.
I'd really like to see the bear do his attack in kung-fu style
1:38 Huh? Wasn't the shack trashed in the previous scene. Now it's perfect again.
0:28 Remember, aside from the iconic theme, John Williams' score for Jaws was far more "adventure" than "horror"...and Grizzly is a landlocked ripoff of Jaws, so the music makes sense. The species of bear they feature in this movie is called arctodus or the short faced bear.
no,.. it was a grizzly.. the bear in the shots is clearly a grizzly, it is called grizzly,.. and arctodus have been extinct for about 11,000 years... lmfao
Got my hopes up. I remember seeing a film about a giant bear when I was younger but I have no idea it's title or when it was made.
I remember this one a classic monster jewel.
I love the Bear-Hand,reminds me of the Wicker Man(Remake Haha),..........I think you all know what I mean XD
Well good news grizzly 2 finally got released
john frankheimer's prophecy (1979)'s Katahdin vs. william girdler's grizzly (1976).
The bear is super cute.
Bro you are slipping!! The shack put itself back together perfectly after the bear totaled it wtf???!!
Awesome video review the movie orca and gargoyle these movies are old 80s I think keep up the great work
Saleg Frech thanks!
I remember my mom take me to this movie at the RKO. Best movie ever. I don't care what anyone says.
A million years old bear must at least have arthritis......oh wait, maybe thats why he's so grumpy.
That's why you need rocket launchers when hunting.
Holy shit, did not see that kid going!
Bears are awesome, but this was bearly watchable.
*::slow clap::*
Goblintom Ba Da Tss
Get out.
Goblintom and the prize for the most obvious joke goes to
'You are finished, dismissed, removed!" WTF? I have a feeling the line was not supposed to be delivered in that manner
Hilarious man! Still binging on your vids.
Unchained With The Captain :)
This is a strange thing for me to come up with, but I now imagine the Grizzly to actually be Smokey the Bear, who accidentally sniffed up some camper's coke, and it was the cause behind his crazy rampage.
Thanks, that's a movie now.
Awesome review man
aztr0zombie thanks!
let's see here, 15 feet tall, 1 million years old...that would be a short face bear AKA the super sized Ice Age Bear.
too bad it is called grizzly, they used a Kodiak, and the arctodus (short face) has been extinct for 11,000 years
at my local zoo(Duluth-superior) we could(it's been a while) walk down the zookeeper's path to the feeding cage...it was(is?) like an enclosed cave that leads to a steel reinforced door...it ALWAYS stank like gore and blood...anyone else have a local zoo that had that feature?

Where did the rangers GET the rocket launcher from?
@studinthemaking
One of em brought it back from Nam.
Ahhh jaws with claws, a personal guilty pleasure of mine, it's supposed to come out on blu ray soon from scorpion releasing but they only put out a Dvd hmmm hope it comes out eventually
Horrifyingly Hillarious would be nice to see on Blu, it is a very pretty film
GoodBadFlicks indeed it has some beautiful shots of the forests and nature in general
Been meaning to find and watch this movie after seeing blood splatter cinema's review of it.
I actually remember them showing this on tv in like 1981... and being freaked out by it. I don't think they edited out any of the gore either.
Thank goodness the canceled sequel was finally released
3:00 I'd bet it was her time of the month, and she had on the stinkiest perfume on as well.
6:29 wait! How did a bear hug cause this lad to lose his leg, Logic anyone????
