  • While out enjoying a walk in the popular White Peak area of the Peak District National Park a member of a group placed a foot awkwardly on uneven ground and fell sustaining a painful lower leg injury. Other members of the party made the casualty comfortable while a 999 call was made requesting help.
Our colleagues at Cheshire Search and Rescue were initially requested to attend the incident and they asked for assistance from Buxton Mountain Rescue. Response vehicles were soon on scene and team members were guided to the site of the incident by another member of the party.
An initial medical assessment confirmed that a stretcher carry off would be required, so while pain relief was given to the casualty, the injured leg was placed in a splint and the Cheshire Search and Rescue stretcher made ready to carry the patient to the road. Once back at the vehicles the patient was transferred to a private car and driven to hospital by a friend.
Our good wishes go to the casualty for a swift recovery from the injury sustained in the incident and hopefully a prompt return to the National Park.
All equipment used was then cleaned down as per Covid-19 policies and stowed back on the vehicles for the next callout.
Our thanks go to the members of the walking group for the help provided at the incident, and the motorists who waited patiently when we needed a clear road.

Why are you still wearing masks in the outdoors?

Hi, thanks for the question. We are wearing masks as we are still operating under National Mountain Rescue guidance which has a range of protocols to keep ourselves and our casualties safe from Covid 19. Our understanding is that that guidance is currently being reviewed and might change, but for now we continue with the protocols.
