    Here is a link to some of the materials I used to make my tractor:
    In this video I cover the features of my newest mobile chicken tractor. I built it to keep my egg laying hens safe from the bobcats, raccoons, foxes, coyotes, possums, and skunks that visit us every night. I also have designed a pvc chicken feed tower to keep them fat and happy. Free ranging chickens produces higher quality eggs, meat, and happier chickens.
    chicken tractors have been made popular by people like joel salatin and others. While you can buy a static chicken homes like a tractor supply chicken coop a mobile chicken coop is even better. chicken tractor design is important for Building The Ultimate Hen House For My Growing Family

      @@WineberryHill Thanks! I do have a question. I live in a cold winter climate and noticed your coop is insulated. How do you balance warmth and winter ventilation to ensure there are no moisture/frostbite issues? Thanks.

      Partially the shape of the roof, encourages air movement from the low eve to the high eve.. The eves can be opened or blocked (although not airtight).

    As many hawks as we have here in Central Kentucky, I can't believe they have never taken one of our hens. I saw one scoping them out once, and I sent the kids out there to play. Knock on wood.

    So when you move the cage away from the coop, they have no access to the nesting boxes.

    • @WineberryHill
      @WineberryHill  Рік тому +4

      Nor do they need it. I usually move them out to pasture in the morning after they have laid. In the rare occasion where someone missed their opportunity to lay...they just lay it on the ground in the tractor, which I then pick up when I'm changing their location or parking them for the night.

    Also would you please laborate a bit more on the skirting? and how it can stop the predators getting in?

    • @WineberryHill
      @WineberryHill  Рік тому +1

      I used a standard welded wire fencing. That’s screwed to the side of the tractor and then bent out so that it is parallel to the ground. It just prevents predators from getting in the tiny little area between the bottom of the tractor and the hardware cloth that is attached to the ground when the tractor is parked at night.

    • @SJ-gj7mx
      @SJ-gj7mx Рік тому +1

      @@WineberryHill Thanks, my question is ....the gap... there will be still a bit of gap between that piece of wire mesh that is bent( skirting) and the mesh that is on the ground

    • @WineberryHill
      @WineberryHill  Рік тому +1

      The predators don't seem to understand which direction the gap occurs. They know the cattle wire fencing isn't something they can bend or chew through...so they don't try squeezing under it. They try almost every night....

    • @SJ-gj7mx
      @SJ-gj7mx Рік тому +1

      @@WineberryHill Thank you, Exactly how long is the wire fencing...I mean from the bottom of the wood how long is the amount of the bent wire ( skirting) and how long is the width of the hardware cloth on the floor.....
