I fully agree. I bought this lens back in May. So far, I'm really happy, it is a great portrait lens and I love it! Now if you consider using it for other purpose than portrait, be careful, you will be disappointed!
Hey, Sam, great test it was a good decision of peargear to send you a lens. You didn't even mention buying a Ricoh GR, which must have been really hard for you. 😄
Nice! So actually I would say a big ass lens like this would be better suited on an M2 or any of the other rangefinders that 50mm would have punched in frame lines. That way you have less viewfinder blockage. But still perhaps the rangefinder patch would be disturbed. So ya I think this lens is best for digital Leicas' with live view/evf anyways. I think I would rather save for a voigtlander 50 f1.2 but this is a cool option for those that need extreme low light capability.
The pictures of the girl sat down were a brilliant advert for the lens. I have an m262 and love only using the rangefinder so i am confident i could nail focus often enough but worry about calibrating the lens without a live view. My small collection of lenses includes the voigtlander 40mm f1.4 which is easy to focus wide open so why does the TT lens need calibrating? Good video though.
Good review. I was surprised to see it was decently sharp wide open. Each Leica model has a different RF Baselength, the distance between the VF and the RF window. The greater the baselength, the more accurately it will focus. The CL/CLEs have a very short baselength and that’s why the 90mm sold for them are only f/4. The M3 has the greatest baselength followed by the M6 TTL 0.85, so if you want to shoot these 0.95s, use one of them. :-)
Ah good to know! Does this have something to do with viewfinders optimized for 2m? Like some leica m finders are optimized for that distance for example. And the CLE must be shorter because it is so wide.
Pretty sure the gold mount is just brass, which all lenses have, but it's usually chromed or nickel plated, which is better (to avoid tarnishing). It's a cost cutting thing, brass is a soft, cheap metal. Why would you focus, with such a thin depth of field, remove the lens, add it to another body and shoot? lol
Nice review, I'm curious what country were you in in October where almost nobody was wearing a mask and not social distancing? Where I am I don't think my community took enough precautions at that point in time.
Great video and fantastic shots, atmospheric and joyful. Now you’ve got me thinking about really fast glass, so as I’m living in the middle of know where, any chance you could review a Voigtlander 50mm f1.2 VM mount... could this be the sweet spot between speed and size?
Thanks for the fun review video, I have a practical question want to see if you could help answer. You noted the lens is so big it blocks the rangefinder for your minolta. I would like to check if you think / know the same impact for M series Leica cameras like M6/M7? Thanks.
Pleasantly surprised to see your own photograph printed on your shirt, I recently started doing the same (albeit with a nice photo of my dog rather than a nice street photo, haha). Better to use that real estate to show off your own work than someone else's.
Could you use this lens in the regular Leica CL? I thought the rear part of lens could collide with the the metering mechanism of the CL. Great video and keep up the good work!
Debating trading in my xpro3 for the SL and a number of non Leica lenses ... this lens continues to convince me that I can manage... I wish I could afford the SL2 and I wouldn't hesitate at all to make the jump if I could... anyhow, I hope you also review some of the native primes for the SL too. I feel like they're too large to carry around... but I'd be interested in seeing how you might use one on the street... Thanks for the quality content!
What about this lens Mr.Ding Noxlux DG 50/1.1 E58 V2 For Leica-M I tried to give you a link, but the post was deleted. You can find it by searching on Google
Weirdly, I always enjoy seeing other's EDITS. Obviously being physically there when you filmed, I'm always interested in how other people piece their footage together. Good work brotha. Ps. Balance out ya balls a lil' bit.
I still don’t get it. At 0.95 what’s in focus? The tip of the nose? Everyone who buys lenses like this almost immediately says they shoot them at f2.8 and above anyway , so ....why not just buy an f2.8 to start with?
If you have a good EVF and with the help of focus peaking and viewfinder magnification you can get properly focused images at 0.95. It's just not that easy but not impossible. I wouldn't buy a lens like that if I plan to stop it down.
Geesh, I see why there is such a resurgence of Covid in Europe now. Look at all those people and not one person wearing a mask. Liked your video though. Thanks Samuel.
Samuel, I gave a like for your corougeous sales pitch to buy 5 lol. I think you are a better artist than a salesman. Nice video but not buying this lens lol :p

Bro, those portraits in that blue subway station. Beautiful.
Thank you!
So true! Loved those 😍
That 50mm 0.95 is crazy flattering for headshot potrait
The Film images are absolutely stunning.

0.95f is nice but I didn't see a whole lot of difference in the photos between it and the 1.4.
Great review!
Wow this is actually cheaper than thorsten’s lens case...
😂🤣😂🤣

Hmmm, not sure why they are optimized at different distances. That could just be the preference of the designer but I don’t know.
I wish I had 5 friends lol

Very nice video 👌, as usual!! Also the lens is very nice a very good bang for the buck!
Nice review, I'm curious what country were you in in October where almost nobody was wearing a mask and not social distancing? Where I am I don't think my community took enough precautions at that point in time.
The separation does give quite a 3d look.
Nice looking lens with very little CA considering. You can see that when the focus is a little further away the bokeh gets quite busy.
Man very nice, do you post process your images? They look nice and natural
You know that he change the thumbnail if your true fan

For black and white is very good!
I try this with my M8/M9

Cool review, longtime not watch your videos, wow! you have finally a Leica 👌🏻interesting results with 50mm!
For that price, NEW, its insanely good

Probably not, the metering of the CL and M5 had issues with the collapsible lenses though.
Well done review!! Thanks for the upload love your content!
Thanks!

Get the lens first, just use adapter
I'd do the trade to the sl in a heartbeat

That lens was a lot better than I expected it to be.
i got to use it on a leica m10 and i'm blown away
It's still sad because i can't even afford the knock-off version... :(
Their knock-off Summilux is more affordable though. Been eyeing that one for a while.
The Naughtylux that we can't afford.
Great review and samples. Strange mask "usage" though.

If this comes out in Fuji X mount I'm having one. Shhh, don't tell my wife what I'm planning!
Never involve your wife in buying photo equipment 🤣
@@Chasjazzez I've got away with a lot of purchases over the years so far :D She doesn't read my comments on UA-cam!

Very interesting lens and price, nice video.
I really wanted to see this lens on Leica m10
Looking forward to this one 👌
😁
I literally got mine the same day you uploaded this 😂
haha the guy at 9:26 also cool lens!
so if I buy this, is it compatible for sony a7 iii?
great review

Don't panic. It depends of your focusing distance too, not just apperture.
Don't forget the low light advantages.
best unboxing ever :D
Obviously you can say what you want, but they may not like you calling it a 09.5 ! (50)
This lens works with sony 7r iii??? With all modern camera its works?
You need an adapter but yes it does work with all mirrorless cameras I know of.
That was a smooth transation into skillshare lol
