Yo uso Ricoh GR y fuji x100f, pero en esta prueba que ha hecho Lintaro la cámara que me ha resultado mas natural y realista en sus colores ha sido sin duda la Canon, las otras cámaras las veo artificiales en sus resultados

Compared to what, the Leica? Wow…that’s a bold prediction. I was a Canon shouted for decades-since the film days. Several months ago I picked up the Q2. Sold all of my Canon gear, and will never look back. Leica colors are second to nothing else.

    A: technical
    B: dreamy
    C: vibrant
    D: high-end designer
    E: nostalgic
My favorite was the B, A, then E. I thought C was stylistically boring, but I think that’s a bit unfair for the Fuji since its blandness gives it versatility for filters as it was intended to be used. I’m surprised I disliked the Leica when compared head to head. I have to admit, I only liked the Leica photos more when I knew it was a “Leica” ;)
    Very valuable!

First - the level of production in your videos is fantastic. I’m a Fuji gal (XT-2) but was considering picking up a GR iii. The camera C skin tone redness really stood out for me against the more neutral rendering of the other cameras and explains the added PP I’ve had to do on certain portraits. Super helpful!

Interesting! I immediately knew film, Canon, and Fuji. I think you forgot to reduce the NR to minimum for Fuji, which softens the skin too much. I mistook Leica and Ricoh with each other, since it is usually Leica that skews towards yellow. I wish you had a Nikon and Olympus on hand as well, that would be the ultimate test. Thank you for the comparison, it was fun!

Ricoh was my fav from the selection presented. I own several Pentax Digital cameras and always thought Pentax had the most film-like look from all the other brands. Now I also use VSCO presets in my post processing, and yeah, the Portra presets are some of my favourite.

  • @AndrewSowerby
    @AndrewSowerby 3 роки тому +6

I was amazed at how broadly similar the output of all the digital cameras looked - I was really expecting to see some huge differences.
I kept gravitating towards the Fuji and Ricoh. The only one I was less keen on was the Leica, but that was only because of the much cooler white balance which didn't suit a model shoot where skin tones are so crucial.
It's a bit of a cop out, but really, they all looked good to me. I could easily work with any of them.
I must confess that I was expecting to be able to spot the Fuji immediately, because I've never liked their colours before, but this test made me think again. Perhaps it's because skin tones are something Fuji just does well, and this was a model shoot, after all. I also need to declare my strong bias towards Ricoh, and in my past experience, I've always saw Ricoh and Fuji as polar opposites, but the differences here seemed pretty minor.
As for the colour calibration before and after comparisons, maybe it didn't show up on UA-cam, but each one just looked like a subtle contrast and white balance tweak - nothing dramatic.

Exceptional content. A lot of work has really gone into this.
I preferred the Canon colors in most of the situations but the Ricoh was most surprising being how small it is. Fuji was my least preferred even not knowing which camera it was. I'm a Canon and Leica user. I do think that lenses have a big role in color too. The voigtlanders are great (I have several of them) but a Leica lens delivers color with more clarity, and vibrance comparatively.
Thank you. I'm sure this is a big help for many.

Love the video Samuel. I have both the Ricoh GRii and Fujifilm x-t2. I totally agree with what you said about the Fujifilm look. I prefer Ricoh GRii Jpeg and DNG files over Fujifilm Jpegs and RAF files everytime, even though I use Capture One to process the RAF files. The Ricoh Jpegs are far more natural to my eye and also in print. I am thinking of going for the GRiii and droping Fujifilm purely for this reason. Cheers Ian ( Leicester, UK).

Thanks for the video! Good work on this! I also like the Leica look. The Portra didn't look as I remembered it from 2000 when I used it. I have used many different Canon cameras and now I have 5D4 and R; the color and skin tone get better for each iteration less color cast especially from the red, more stable colors generally also in mixed lighting.

I usually enjoy the colors in my fuji, and usually use classic chrome or astia as a starting point for my RAW edits.
But sometimes I don't like any of the profiles. Nothing is perfect.

  • @Avto28
    @Avto28 3 роки тому

I did in the end manage to get all of them right but not because of the color rendition but looking at the lens and depth of field variations. Ricoh has the widest lens and hence least amount of background blur and wider perspective, Fuji is also a smaller sensor than the other two and Portra was pointed out because no RAW files were shown so in the end it was picking between Canon and Leica everything else could have been in black and white and still would have been able to identify them. Great video though, great images and a lovely model.

I could tell that the GR and X-H1 were crop sensors but mixed the two up, and the Canon and Leica were recognizable because of more contrast and dynamic range, respectively. In the final tally, I preferred the Canon for shots #1 and #3, the Leica for #2, and the Portra for #4 (with favorite adjusted raw going to the Fujifilm). For what it's worth, a Canon 5D II was my main camera for 8 years, although I'm now using Nikon Z6, which is more similar to the Leica files.

Overall I liked A the best. Funny how I have never owned a Canon. I shoot with a fuji xt2 and Nikon Z6. I really have never liked the look of the f2 primes on the fuji. They look a bit to sterile. I use the 35mm f1.4 and a couple vintage 50mm lenses on my xt2. I like the softer vintage look. Maybe that is why I liked the 5D classic most. The Portra 400 was very different from the rest and pretty easy to tell. Some looked really good and other not as much. A very interesting test.

I like that I personally can't see much difference unless if you put them side by side and really look for it, except the film of course. But even then the fact that each photos are from slightly different angles made it harder to decide which color I prefer.
Now I know I wouldn't worry too much about colors, and choose cameras by other aspects that actually made a noticeable difference for me.

I use portra 400 in nikon F3 and Contax G1. It’s ace. Great video. I have and shoot Nikon D700, Ricoh GR, Fuji X100 F and Leica Q.
Ricoh GR and X100F are fantastic JPEG images, I only shoot Raw on the leica and Nikon. Nikon D700 images are fantastic, the leica Q is super natural.

I picked A and D :) and I was very surprised, because I never liked Leica output before. I always tried to make them look more like Canon in post. Must be because I only shoot RAW :).

Portra (film in general) tends to be very easy to identify, I was more surprised by the others though.
Ricoh looked stunning and Fuji tented to be my least preferred which I was genuinely surprised by.

Surprised to find this confirmed my perceived favorites. I have been looking at a lot of samples though... Leica, portra, Ricoh are my favorites. Can’t really decide between them.

Guessed the Fujifilm one correctly! Fuji color really is quite something:)

Canon is easy to spot when you are used to canon :D But that 5D classic is still special...
