  • Justin Fields has elite NFL qualities, but there’s one trait that will make or break his career.
    My scouting report on DeVonta Smith: • DeVonta Smith is a MON...
    This week’s film breakdown analyzes Ohio State Quarterback Justin Fields as he enters the 2021 NFL draft. Much has been said about Fields, especially discussions surrounding his processing ability, which aren't covering the full story. Fields can display elite pre and post snap processing ability, but can't replicate that processing at a consistent level. Which version of Fields will the NFL get? This episode uses the coaches all-22 game film to analyze Ohio State Quarterback Justin Fields.

    Came back three years later to see a report on him. The thing that immediately jumped out is the section on the post-dig concept. That play actually showed exactly why Justin fields failed with the bears. He'll make the adjustment on his read, but then see the second option is covered then run. Holds onto the ball too long, when in the NFL he should have just hit that flat route for 3-5 yards

      right? Jimmy had/has a problem with holding on to the ball for way too long. So that weakness worries me a bit, but Jimmy was often just not seeing the open guy or way too hesitant to make a simple read. Add in his terrible deep ball accuracy (that USED to be good), and it was a wash.
      But with Fields arm talent and with Shanahan's aggressive offense, he could thrive throwing to Kittle, Deebo, and Aiyuk.

      @@AlexRollinsNFL how many times did he look dreadful in his first year at Ohio State...I would say none. But then that leads me to think that the kid is super awesome but he had some not so good games b/c of having no preseason, no practices, and injuries. And there are D1 college coaches and Scouts that have Justin Fields as QB1...these same D1 level scouts find inconsistencies and insufficiencies in these over hyped QBs like Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson. And no one points out when Trevor Lawrence had a batch of interceptions in his first 6 games and struggled against North Carolina and had not a single tutty in the LSU game last year or that Zach Wilson played like crap against Coastal Carolina...so I think that trying to say Justin Fields is “scary” or that he “worries” you, to me is kinda ridiculous, no disrespect.

  • @Kmart2180
    @Kmart2180 3 роки тому +2

    I love his overall package but as a 49ers fan, I just don't think he will work in Kyle's system. He's too slow of a passer. Especially vs pressure/blitz.
    You said it very well in this video about not going to a heavy progression based system, rather a team would have to structure a system for him. Kyle has a very rhythm based timing/progression system. As great as Fields can be, he just does not fit that system from all the game tape I've watched. He tends to want to hold the ball waiting for the deep stuff.
    49ers fans think Jimmy holds the ball too long vs pressure, this kid makes Jimmy look elite vs the blitz. Teams pressured the 49ers more than any other team in the NFL, with Justin Fields, they will up the anti even more because that is a weakness of his (and his QBR under pressure is proof). That long release mixed in with a slow recognition of what's happening (especially under pressure) is not gonna be a good mix vs NFL defenses who are gonna be way better than Northwestern and Indiana.
    I feel like he would excel in a deep game system like the Bucs, Steelers type offense. In a West Coast quick hit progression based system, I see him struggling to get the ball out quick and on time.
    I could be wrong but this is why I think Mac Jones makes more sense at #3 for SF. (Even if he isn't as talented as Fields overall). Sometimes it just comes down to someone fitting a system better.

  • @mihnic0504
    @mihnic0504 3 місяці тому +1

    He still has the same problems though I believe he has gotten better. On madden I use him as a game manager utilizing RPO to draw in the offense and then hitting a deep bomb when the defense is off balance. I also always use the QB run as a threat to draw in the defense. I base the whole idea on a modern version of a 1920's style running QB. I believe this concept can work in real life however, the Bears couldn't even run a screen without an offensive lineman tripping over his own feet. Also, often times it seemed like Getsy wanted him to use a progression style offense. I believe Getsy implied in an interview that a half field read type passing gaming is limiting and allows the defense to concentrate their players to the half. Of course, Chicago sports radio ran with that narrative and had no idea what they were talking about. Unfortunately, the proper resources were never made available for JF in Chicago. He never really had a serviceable offensive line. When they gave him time in the pocket, he could throw for 4 td's in a game, but that kind of blocking was rare. I really love the way this kid plays the game and I hope he gets all the tools he needs in Pittsburgh and win a Super Bowl. I've never seen such a skilled athlete that plays with such fire and passion.

    • @jesusflores7323
      @jesusflores7323 3 роки тому

      I completely disagree. Our Oline won't allow him to hold on to the ball for 3.5+ seconds every play. We don't have a burner wr and our only honest deep threat is Aiyuk to take advantage of his arm. We've depended more on short passes and guys making plays after the catch, of course this could change with a new qb under center though. I think Kyle would rather have someone who consistently makes fast reads and right decision making, someone who dependably hits bullseye under 25 yards like wilson or jones over someone flashy that can air it like fields or lance. My biggest criticism of mullens was not going through his progressions and locking in to the 1st read too much and I see that being field's weakness aswell. Jimmy's strength has been his quick release and wilson has that down imo. It's possible that 4 are gone by the time #12 comes up anyways so unless they're willing to move up for their guy I don't think we'll be sweating on who to chose.

    There was the same narrative with Deshaun Watson and Justin Herbert. Watson had some issues with anticipation and threw a lot of interceptions. Herbert had some "wtf are you doing" kind of throws any game you watched. So Watson got picked at 13 and Herbert at 6, with Trubisky and Tua going before them.
    At the end of the day, as you say, the situation matters. And for Justin Fields, Zach Wilson or any of these QBs, getting picked by the 49ers at #3 would be the better situation. A team who just 2 years ago was in the SB with a loaded roster and an offensive genius as HC. Considering that Shanahan made Matt Schaub a Pro Bowler, RG3 the OROY, Matt Ryan an MVP and went to the SB with Jimmy G, I just can't imagine what can happen with a talent like Justin Fields.

    The first play of the Indiana game was also on Wilson, he shouldn’t have stemmed back inside of the flat player because 1.) now it delays the window for the dig and 2.) it allows the safety to recover to the middle of the field much faster. He basically funneled himself right to the safety when there was no need for it. Either way on that one Fields should’ve ripped the dig not the seam. If Wilson went stayed OUTSIDE the flat player, maybe Fields would be able to hit him because then the safety would be out the picture and corner would be in conflict with the dig and the seam.

      Carson may not be the athlete he was pre injuries but coming out of college the athleticism between the two was pretty even. And that was a pro day 4.4 which means he’s closer to a low 4.5 if Fields was at the combine. But go off lol

      Also carson is 6’5 240. He’s literally the prototypical size of a TE right now. That’s like saying Kyle Pitts is to small to play TE lol
