Yeah, if you play space sims I think twin VKB gladiator NXT EVO with an omni adaptor for your off hand is by far the best option on the market. Very similar to my X56. Hopefully the stick itself isnt as huge as the x56, which is the only problem I had with it, considering that i dont have big hands. All those buttons are a MUST if you want to play high tier jets. For prop planes a basic hotas is more than enough, but for jets you need all those keybinds.
Agreed, you would think they would have made it something better. I don’t really see how this would be better than a T1600 throttle for 130 and a VKB gladiator for 175 and they by a mount system. Mount system is the only thing I’m impressed by on this
@@BrockvsTV it looks waaaay worse then a gladiator, and even the looknof the switches makes me question if it even can compare to the thrustmaster twcs
Fun fact, after buying an x55 I find out split throttles cannot be mapped in game because of gaijins coding (just like no independent flares or chaff) yay
You can, its just really involved and takes multiple steps, not as simple as mapping both throttle sides and splitting them. Its really not doable in combat in game, but for free flying and doing aerial tricks its possible.
Even the Thrustmaster Warthog is showing its age now, Winwing Orion 2 has superseeded it as better recreation of the actual controls in the A10 as well as being much higher quality for only a marginal bump in price. This thing on the otherhand is absolutely disgusting for 500, I would be hard pressed to pay 200 or 150 for it.
@gregc9344 Honestly, I'm behind on my HOTAS knowledge, and I don't have super deep pockets. I just mentioned the Warthog because it's one of the most recognizable ones out there, and I just recently got one. I will agree there are better HOTAS out there.
@@Raiders1917 You are right it's probably the most recognisable and it has been the longest reining champion of flight sticks during its time but now we have things like double cam pivot with adjustable clutches which are more accurate, longer lasting, smoother motion, customisable tension profile. I don't have one myself but I've used a friends Virpil setup and the difference is almost incomparable
I love the brutally honest review. But 500 dollars is a little steep for a plastic HOTAS. Even with the mount. Although that does make it more bearable
Important to note that metal doesn't mean quality. I agree that this stick seems over priced, but a high quality plastic can last longer and be more hard wearing than a low quality metal. The VKB gladiators are plastic yet highly rated and will blow any metal sticks at that price range of the water when it comes to quality and durability. For decent metal sticks you're looking at a virpil for around $250 just for the stick, no base or throttle (their cheapest base is over $200 and decent throttles are at least $250 with theirs costing $350)
They really mean it when they say this joystick is meant for war thunder players. Getting scammed is just one part of playing WT. But yeah just recently got into DCS, was able to successfully land my first attempt on a carrier with the F18, and I use the thrust master and it’s good. But this thing isn’t worth 500$. Maybe at 250 it could be fine but the only good thing I see is the throttle. Joystick just looks off
I get the impression most of the cost is via the branding and the fact that the company itself didn't build a whole lot of the sticks to begin with, expecting it to be the niche product that it'll likely be. I really like that it comes with its own mounting system, and that by itself is a good chunk of the cost more than likely. I might as well just pick up an X56 for half the cost and its own mounting system then end up paying less still. Or maybe wait for a Second generation production run of this HOTAS (if it makes it that far) as there seems to be issues without out of the box.
Damn i was hoping it would be priced more at 300-350 for the kit. For $500 i'm getting a VKB or Winwing.... For $160 you can get a good stick and just use keyboard buttons for the rest
If my 15 year old 2nd hand X52 is anything to go off of then my next HOTAS will be an X56, 2x the price for some flimsy looking buttons doesn't seem like it to me.
Gladiator nxt was my second stick and I was so amazed at how good it was I bought a gunfighter like 2 months after. Virpil throttle and vkb gunfighter is the best combo I’ve ever used.
For background, I started with the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro (at least post year 2000, had a couple others back in the 90's), upgraded to a T.16000m HOTAS and I just bought the VKB NXT Evo with their STECs Max setup. I had mounts already given to me as a Christmas gift a couple years back, I think those ran $60 for a set of two. For price comparison, the first is about $40 new, the second runs... I think around $170 new, and I paid around $560 for the VKB setup (though admittedly $80 of that was shipping from China to the eastern US). I used to play WarThunder a ton (started when it was only planes, then played a lot when they added ground forces, but haven't played too much since they added ships), now I focus mostly on DCS, MSFS, Elite Dangerous, and IL2. Just from looking at this HOTAS within the video, there's no reason to drop $500 on this. The stick looks clunky and sounds like it doesn't actually work particularly well. On top of poor choices in the types of buttons, it's a ball and socket stick which isn't going to feel any better than other cheaper options. The VKB NXT Evo by itself is around $170, and is an amazing stick that uses springs in a pincer style, with magnetic sensors, and has clutches to set the friction. The T16000m is a good stick, but those don't have particularly long life spans (the Z-axis fails a lot, which is what pushed me to upgrade)... It's also a ball and socket, but significantly cheaper than this. The throttle on the T16000m is adequate and works similar to this one, it's just not a split throttle. That being said, one of the things I hated about it is that it's straight foward and back on rails, which sticks a little even if you keep it lubed up. The STECs throttle through VKB is one of the best investments I've ever made in PC hardware, it feels that good to use. And with the Max addons, there are so many buttons that I can almost use the throttle system alone to fly in MSFS using autopilot functions I've programmed in. If you're going to spend $500, go with a premium VKB stick and either the STECs Standard or the STECs Max throttle. For around $400 you could get the standard stick and a STECs mini which is around the same functionality the HORI is shooting for here, and then get a $50-$60 set of mounting brackets. If you want to sacrifice quality to save money, go with the T16000m, just know that you'll either need to repair or replace the stick within about a year or so, or buy foot pedals for Z-axes control and disable it on the stick.
For $444 USD (Pre Tax/Shipping) - Currently in my cart on VKB's website I have my current VKB Gladiator NXT Premium Stick & my STECS Standard Throttle - an insanely higher quality HOTAS setup. I've actually had two VKB sticks for space flight sims for almost 3 years and they work like new. Just recently got into flight sims with the STECS Standard Throttle and VKB rudder pedals I picked up. The HORI Hotas could be a great fresh face & contender in the budget hotas market maybe around a $200-275 range (at best) but at $500 it's absolutely insane to even consider it next to so many other options. Even the good ol' X52 is a way better value.
Happy New Year Ash, I hope 2024 is a good one for you and that things get sorted and back on an even keel. I think the best bargain here was the box for the cat, they love their boxes !! You take care and stay safe.
pink trigger is usually a brake leaver (early brittish and pretty much all russian aircraft worked like this), did you check if it was actually a graduated leaver and not a binary switch?
On western aircraft it's usually autopilot disconnect/override/emergency disconnect of all flight control automation in older aircraft. So this differs from place to place
thanks for the review. Amazing from HORI, which i did think they could pull this off at all. also amazing you got war thunder recognise hotas. I gave up on it some time ago when it just want mouse...
Yikes, $500USD? For what looks like cheap plastic? Yeah it comes with the mount brackets, and Hall Effect sensors, but for that price you're better off getting something similarly priced from VKB, or Virpil. VKB actually just launched a split throttle that looks awesome, I can't wait to get it to pair with my Gladiator NXT stick.
From what I've got from this video my opinion is this, for new players just get the T1600 bundle from Thrustmaster and for more experienced players who really only only spend this kind of money on a throttle and joystick for the better quality/ more realistic feel/ features just stick to whatever you were going to get originally then this.
Which is why I specifically said proper go at a hotas. Because this new product is targeting the higher end market. The older product is not the same as this one.
The only thing is that the mounts come with it; mounts alone can cost more than entry level HOTAS. Overall though it looks like I'd avoid this and either go with a cheaper desk mounted system for a first stick or just stump up the extra for mounting a better system. for $500 you're comfortably into Warthog territory and although the twist option and throttle rudder buttons are neat, it basically falls short in pretty much every way otherwise.
Nice how it comes with the mounts (although I guess not everyone wants them). I had a CH Products Pro Throttle which slide like those throttles do. I prefer ones that moves with a curve I think. Also could maybe have a few more buttons on the throttle.
Is it actually possible to use the split throttles for separate engine control or have they still completely neglected that with their own purpose built equipment?
A couple weeks ago I bought the Winwing Orion2 set (f16EX stick, F18 dual throttle) for 350 euro. The price of this set is ehm lets say "significant", especially in comparison to the winwing sets that are (as far as I can say with my limited experience at the moment) excellent. I assume you pay quite a premium for the WT logo?
For that price, there are several better options out there for the same price or less. the thrustmaster T16000 and logitech X56 both cost around half the price. Winwing and the tm warthog are both options for the same price and are made much better.
This looks insanely cheap and toy-like for $500. You can get a really nice VKB setup or the new Turtle Beach VelocityOne coming out in the next week for less money. Both of which look MUCH better in quality.
I have played a handful of sim battles in the JAS-39 with the T16000M HOTAS, their handling is quite good but I cant use the HMD to its best degree. Honestly, if something works for DCS or BMS falcon it should work perfectly fine for war thunder sim.
Why would them having a HOTAS surprise you? They did the limited edition ones for Ace Combat 6. HORI is not known for their quality though and I wouldn't recommend investing that kind of money in this product. You can get a Thrustmaster Warthog for this price. Hell, I have a Saitek X56 Rhino that I paid half the price of this thing, with a 3rd party desk mount that still comes out to be cheaper and higher quality than this thing seems to be. Plus HOTAS for War Thunder is like the HOTAS for Ace Combat. It's over kill, and not worth it. Now if you wanted this for MSFS, IL-2, or DCS, I'd say go for the Thrustmaster, Virpl or Winwing or even the Saitek stuff before even considering a HORI product. I had the Ace Combat 6 edition that came with the HORI stick, and it was absolute crap, and I never used it, and eventually took it apart for parts for other projects and not longer have any of it now.
VKB has come down in price... between the HOTAS or HOSAS setup you want, it really just depends on the option level you want... but it's more affordable than this, especially in the sense of quality and functionality. Hell... I'll give them props on the Throttle... but only because it's like, industry-standard at this point... and is basically a T16000 Throttle, but with split throttle axis. Different buttons for sure, especially on the base. But... that stick, no bueno. Hall Effect Sensors is a plus... but unless they have options to change out the grip... that thing needs to go back to the drawing board.
Looks like if a X56 and a T16000 had a baby but the mother drank too much wine while the baby was still in developing. With 500$ you can get a secondhand Thrustmaster Warthog hotas from face book.
Odd that war thunder would choose Hori for the offical Hotas could of had thrustmaster make something equivalent to the warthog and change the same price
I’ll stick with my vkb gladiator next evo set. Yes this one has everything in one box, but 500 out the door vs the same in increments for dual mounts, thrust quadrant and flight stick from vkb is much better quality.
How in the hell would you even go about mapping all your controls with thrust control and joystick? Like switching between missles, flaps, locking radar ect. Like how?
500 bucks is just not worth it... Even consider it comes with mount. The button layout of stick is bizarre. Having 2 pickle switch is meaningless. That position should leave to another 4-way hat...
Reminder to anyone who's never had one that you shouldnt buy a joystick for wathunder unless youre intending to play sim. Playing RB or AB with a stick is like playing a shooter when everyone else has aimbot. Only thing that its maybe useful for is the throttle
$500 is quite honestly an absurd ask for something that looks to be around the same build quality as a Logitech X56 Rhino. Sure, it has hall effect sensors & comes with mounts, but that doesn't make up for the lack in quality.

Bruh, $500? You can buy a Winwing HOTAS or a full VKB set for the same money!!
Oooofff that flightstick looks like it’s cup and ball. Basically means it won’t last as long
Agreed, you would think they would have made it something better.
Looks like my old X-52 hotas, god that thing was a nightmare of quality control
Yeah just like a Derivate of the bloddy x52 thing. Felt good seeing it in the trash!
"We have the Thrustmaster Warthog at home" Is what I see just by looking at this thing.
A desk mount is all i needed to make my Thrustmaster T16000M viable for daily use.
Time to dust off the 3d printer, table saw and drill!
Did the twist axis break yet? If not it probably will soon.
For that much money in current market even TM Warthog looks like a perfect deal.
Think I'll stick with my VPC WrBRD setup
Damn i was hoping it would be priced more at 300-350 for the kit. For $500 i'm getting a VKB or Winwing.... For $160 you can get a good stick and just use keyboard buttons for the rest
The throttle is almost if not identical to the t16k throttle, of with some differences. Better off with a T16k kit or some virpil, etc
If my 15 year old 2nd hand X52 is anything to go off of then my next HOTAS will be an X56, 2x the price for some flimsy looking buttons doesn't seem like it to me.
that looks EXTREMELY overpriced for the quality of it, mid range price for a low end product.
Seriously my thrustmaster hotas is a lot better and many years older and was/is cheaper
For $500 go for an Winwing Orion 2 or Warthog.
for that price just get an x56 or a warthog hotas + rudder peddals
OK so it's a 200$ level of product for more than double the price, bruv
The HOTAS looks like it would start leaking classified documents to the War Thunder forums
That throotle is just the thrustmaster twcs. This whole hotas looks like the x56 mixed with the t.16000m hotas.
happy new year mate
Same to you!
After your review, at this price point, I would seriously consider VKB first. I use VKB duel Gladiator NXT's and I love them.
Gladiator nxt was my second stick and I was so amazed at how good it was I bought a gunfighter like 2 months after. Virpil throttle and vkb gunfighter is the best combo I’ve ever used.
For $500 you can get a A-10 model flight controls with better quality
Great review.
I had seen this..... and was waiting for people to review it. :)
I am not sure if 500 dollars setup is meant to be just... "Okay!" xD
Your cat looks very cute and fluffy
Thrustmaster is what my girlfriend calls me
I for one always appreciate brutal honestly when it comes to reviews. I also love cats , and that's a handsome guy you've got there
Nice change of pace in content 👍
Thankyou very much indeed for a fair and honest review with both highs and lows
Apparently works for ps5
thanks for the review.
Amazing from HORI, which i did think they could pull this off at all.
also amazing you got war thunder recognise hotas.
I gave up on it some time ago when it just want mouse...
you can get an F18 replica sitck and throttle for less than that over winwing. All metal. And this looks like a toy compared to that.
A $30 Xbox controller is really all you need for War Thunder.
Technically all you need for DCS, too. I know some fantastic DCS pilots who fly on Xbox gamepads because its all they can get in their countries.
Yikes, $500USD? For what looks like cheap plastic? Yeah it comes with the mount brackets, and Hall Effect sensors, but for that price you're better off getting something similarly priced from VKB, or Virpil.
VKB actually just launched a split throttle that looks awesome, I can't wait to get it to pair with my Gladiator NXT stick.
if this means what I think it does, I cannot wait for Ash sim videos
I already have another joystick, going to compare them for the final review.
@@Ash007YT what other hotas are you going to campare it to?
Honesty and modesty best combo for a review !
8 months later this product is on clearance at best buy
From what I've got from this video my opinion is this, for new players just get the T1600 bundle from Thrustmaster and for more experienced players who really only only spend this kind of money on a throttle and joystick for the better quality/ more realistic feel/ features just stick to whatever you were going to get originally then this.
Happy New- to you, too!
I can't imagine what this would look like with vr as well, you should try that
Other than the HORI-ble price point. Great review, will stay tuned.
0:55 this is not Hori's first HOTAS, they have been producing HOTAS since 2004 at least
Which is why I specifically said proper go at a hotas. Because this new product is targeting the higher end market. The older product is not the same as this one.
@@Ash007YT Fair. Though I wouldn't say the older models weren't a proper go at a HOTAS. They are still solid HOTAS, just not high end.
The cat was the highlight of the video 😺
Where’s the bias button?
500 bucks for a throttle quadrant that has as many buttons as a thrustmaster t16000 throttle, minus the dual throttle. Get farked
My old T16k is superb and better quality.
as soon as i saw this i was like, no fkn way they ripped off every cheap console joystick from the early 2000's@@Ash007YT
For that price, going vkb or virpil feels much better for the cost.
Happy New Year! Hope 2024 will be better. And that you will reach 100K subs.
+ Cat needs a fortress made out of boxes :)
For that price, there are several better options out there for the same price or less. the thrustmaster T16000 and logitech X56 both cost around half the price. Winwing and the tm warthog are both options for the same price and are made much better.
Great review, will stay tuned. We also look forward to your comments on our products
I play DCS a lot with my Hotas, Have never bothered to set it up for Warthunder yet. Worth it you think ?
This looks insanely cheap and toy-like for $500. You can get a really nice VKB setup or the new Turtle Beach VelocityOne coming out in the next week for less money. Both of which look MUCH better in quality.
I have played a handful of sim battles in the JAS-39 with the T16000M HOTAS, their handling is quite good but I cant use the HMD to its best degree. Honestly, if something works for DCS or BMS falcon it should work perfectly fine for war thunder sim.
very nice cat review
Thank you!
I'll stick with my T16000
Nope, if im paying 500 for a Hotas setup id rather buy a thrustmaster warthog
The thrustmaster warthog is just as bad value as this, it wants to look like a premium product with a premium price but is cheaply built on the i side
I NEED TO KNOW WHERE I CAN FIND MORE BENTLEY CONTENT NOW
Puhh I was interested till I heard the price ngl, that $500 is way too much.
I’ll stick with my vkb gladiator next evo set. Yes this one has everything in one box, but 500 out the door vs the same in increments for dual mounts, thrust quadrant and flight stick from vkb is much better quality.
There’s no way they’re releasing a shoddy plastic hotas at the same price as winwing orion…
I never thought this would become a real thing, but this is great.
Is a stick that’s barely worth 200 going for 500 great?
@@gregc9344 The Idea is great not the price.
Reminder to anyone who's never had one that you shouldnt buy a joystick for wathunder unless youre intending to play sim.
Playing RB or AB with a stick is like playing a shooter when everyone else has aimbot.
Only thing that its maybe useful for is the throttle
For this price you can get warthog hotas, VKB, even Virpil... which are 10x better... this would maybe just rival t16000m
warthog is definetly not worth it
@jussi8111 For the whole set, I can get it cheaper than vkb+t16000m, so in my opinion, it is worth it
I do wish they came with peddles for the rudder :/
$500 is quite honestly an absurd ask for something that looks to be around the same build quality as a Logitech X56 Rhino. Sure, it has hall effect sensors & comes with mounts, but that doesn't make up for the lack in quality.
At this price, you have a winwing with cam axis ...
for $500 I could get a gladiator NXT and STECS and still have money leftover
Looks like what could have been a Saitek X-55 v2
